01. TABEO ITE, LABUAN BAJO The Labuan Bajo Landmark-Culture and Tourism Center Competition| 2021 Team : Ulfa Kun Aulia (Architect, Graphic Designer) Fransiska Gunawan (Architect, Conceptor)

Location: East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

Located in Manggarai Barat, Nusa Tenggara Timur Indonesia The site is located on a mountainous slope with a construction site that has flat land contours.

Tabeo Ite, Labuan Bajo

The design approach to a linear layout is divided into internal green areas and open areas (amphitheater/terrace), as well as 'raising' the building above the site, completely freeing the ground floor to create a network of interconnected courtyards.

CONCEPT The Labuan Bajo Landmark-Culture and Tourism Center adopts the values of the Wae Rebo tribe and customs that uphold the balance of nature, adapted to the environmental context and local wisdom.

Tabeo Ite, Labuan Bajo

Wae Rebo has an exotic natural charm, even the life of the people who are currently still original as inherited by their ancestors. Every individual who is in their circle of life is an inseparable part of a social mechanism that upholds the culture of preserving nature.

03.

The shape of the main mass of the building takes the concept of a triangle with the analogy of the symbol of the cardinal directions that lead to Wae Rebo Village. Then on the lower side, there is a viewing deck that leads to the city of Labuan Bajo. The two sides of the building pointing in different directions have a connection and a message that the more advanced a civilization (Labuan Bajo City) is, it must maintain its customs and not forget its cultural heritage (Kampung Wae Rebo).

Tabeo Ite, Labuan Bajo

At the core of the building, there is Mbaru Niang, the traditional house of Wae Rebo which was deconstructed from its original characteristics. Mbaru Niang, the Palace above the Clouds, has a philosophy that reflects the nature and wisdom of the Manggarai Tribe in treating the natural surroundings. Therefore, the placement of Mbaru Niang at the center of the building becomes a Meeting Point or Vertical Dualism Harmony between the relationship between humans and their God.

02. MILLENIAL SPACE Alfa-X Architecture Design Competition| 2020 Team : Hilman Rushdi (Architect, Conceptor, Graphic Designer) Ulfa Kun Aulia (Architect, Conceptor, Graphic Designer)

Location: Jakarta, Indonesia

Millennial generation activities and productivity always lead to something has been shown by out-of-the-box or antimainstream breakdowns. There are many activities that can be done alone or communities/working groups.

Millenial Space

For example, working is not always in the office, but we can have more comfortable, relieved, or free atmosphere, but still can follow the current 'market'. Hence, many building functions such as cafes or coffee present 'more seats' and free wi-fi networks to attract visitors besides selling food and drinks.

09.

Sun

Shops or shophouses today, are concerned with income in terms of how large square meters can be placed in a window that can accommodate a variety of goods, it could be food, drinks or daily necessities. This makes the environment boring, seeing buildings that only consist of walls with glass only. There is nothing that distinguishes stores from one another, and sometimes with additional facilities and functions, it makes a difference but the atmosphere of the room is still the same.

The value embodied in Indonesian architecture is increasingly fading in businessoriented building classes. The distinctive feature of Indonesian architecture is tropical architecture, wherever the building remains, it’s always reference the tropical climate. Shops are buildings that dominate at this time. The use of excessive electrical energy during the day can be overcome by applying tropical architecture with the correct method, such as by utilizing natural ventilation (cross ventilation) & natural lighting (skylights).

The difference of activities that arise creates new spatial functions that are no longer standard, so the facilities (space) that are presented follow the pattern of millennial generation, which has a dynamic character, and antimainstream (exterior), but has a soft soul like warm and calm colors (interior).

Attractive masses, a combination of contemporary and industrial architecture make the dynamic mass express a modern millennial space. Attractive and iconic are the characteristics of the millennial generation, so they need a similar platform for their activities, not only for work but also for entertainment.

04. RE-MAKE OF CIPTAGELAR Sukabumi Gov. Area Re-design Competition| 2020 Team : Hilman Rushdi (Architect, Conceptor, Graphic Designer) Ulfa Kun Aulia (Architect, Conceptor, Graphic Designer)

Location: West Java, Indonesia

The site is located at Sukabumi city in West Java Province, Indonesia. This city is one of the cities with the smallest area in West Java. There is a traditional village called Kampung Ciptagelar which stands on the south side of the Sukabumi area. Ciptagelar itself has a philosophy which means 'land' which is very broad for exploration, especially philosophical exploration. Many concepts of life can be explored, such as the concept of Cosmology. Kasepuhan Ciptagelar Traditional House is a house that reflects the Sundanese traditional house. This traditional house was built using local materials that are environmentally friendly. The expression of respect for nature is reflected in the designation of the earth for nature which also shows that nature is a residence for Sundanese people.

Ciptagelar

The spatial structure in the house is believed to be the structure of human space. River flow is described as the center line that separates the right and the left side of the human body. Those house characters later be used as a main concept in the re-making of Sukabumi government area.

05. SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF TRADITIONAL BUILDING CRAFTS Academic Project Grad. 2| 2023 Professor Jason Alread Location: Savannah, Georgia, USA

The Savannah College of Traditional Building Crafts serves as a testament to the importance of preserving traditional building methods and crafts. The school itself has three main buildings with an approachment of each room characteristics and activites separation. The first building area houses the classrooms, office, library and apartment. Te second building area mainly for the shops: stone, metal and wood. Additionally, the third building area is used fo public activities such as gallery and lecture hall.

Savannah Building Crafts

The shops as the main function of this building, is designed to be energy-efficient, wih large windows that allow natural light to enter and reduce the need for artificial lightning. The workshop also designed with large open spaces to allow easy movement of materials and equipment with large workbenches for students to work.

BEHIND THE BRICKS The first building, a hub of learning and administration, is laid out to ensure that classrooms are easily accessible, yet sufficiently insulated from the quieter needs of the office and library spaces. The layout is intuitive, guiding newcomers and regulars alike through its diverse spaces with ease.

Savannah Building Crafts

In contrast, the second building, dedicated to the hands-on craft shops, takes on a more industrial design. The layout prioritizes workflow efficiency, from the strategic placement of large, sunlit windows to the arrangement of workbenches and equipment. This ensures that creativity and craftsmanship flow as freely as the natural light that fills the room. Meanwhile, the third building, which hosts public activities, adopts a welcoming open-plan design to accommodate a variety of events, from art galleries to lectures, making it a versatile space for both the college and the wider community. This thoughtful zoning creates a cohesive yet flexible environment that nurtures both the educational and social aspects of the college experience.

06. IN BETWEEN OF COLD AND HOT Academic Project Grad. 1| 2022 Professor Bradley Walters Location: Tyonek, Alaska, USA Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Modular construction aims to improve housing by addressing human needs for space and movement. It incorporates ecological concepts and space efficiency across different climates and building types.

The goal of the modular construction system is to introduce this concept as a viable residential solution that meets the needs of its occupants. This involves an extensive review and consideration of various factors beyond architecture, including environmental impacts and human ergonomics. The approach also emphasizes flexible architectural strategies in space management to adapt to different requirements. Considering the distinct backgrounds, challenges, and environmental contexts of places like Alaska and Florida, the use of prefabricated modular units for residential buildings is seen as an effective way to speed up construction and minimize maintenance needs. Each residence's module configuration will be tailored to suit the local environment, spatial needs, and the activities of its inhabitants.
