Tara is a gymnast and would like to measure her flexibility. (8 Mark question) Flexibility is the range of movement around the joints. (1mark) Flexibility can be measured around any joint to see specific flexibility. In order to test her speed Tara would take the sit and reach test. (1 mark) In order to carry out this test she would need a flat surface, a sit and reach box (or bench), an assistant and a ruler (if required). (1 mark) The test would be set up by setting up a sit and reach box against a solid object (to allow no movement) (1 mark) It is vital that the test is carried out on a flat surface and the performer is not wearing any footwear will affect the validity of the results. (1 mark) Tara will carry out the test, repeating the test 3 times in total. Each trial will take place after a 30-second rest period between the previous one. (1 mark) Performers must be able to hold their position for at least 2-5 seconds to record a valid score. (1 mark)
In order to get more reliable results the exact routine i.e. warm up, time etc would be used before each test. (1 mark) The sit and reach test has a number of advantages; it is possible to complete the test inside & outside (1 mark) The test requires very minimal equipment. (1 mark) The test only tests flexibility of the hip and lower back. (1 mark)
