 Ewan’s race is in 12 weeks’ time he wants to plan a training programme which will allow him to peak at the time of his race. (1 mark) Frequency- How many sessions in a week.  gradually increase the amount of training sessions over the first 8 weeks.  Reduce the amount just before the race to prevent fatigue. Intensity- How hard the session is.  Training sessions for muscular endurance will need to involve high intensity to get the muscles used to working in the anaerobic threshold.  400m is a high intensity event as you are working as hard as you can for at least 50 seconds. Time- the length of a training session.  Training sessions may be roughly 30 minutes long for the first week and gradually increase by 15-20 minutes each week.


 Depending on the type of training would affect the time spent on each session. E.g. sprint session short duration. Type- Specific training method used  Weight training could be used to build muscle power and strength.  Sprint training to work on power and speed.
