Writing: • Select 15 words from the dictionary and use them to inspire a piece of writing. The challenge is to find words that have no obvious link together which will encourage creativity! • Read the opening to a book and use three ideas from that author to inspire your own piece of writing • Use a poem, any poem, and write a description using the opening line, ending it with the final words from the poem. • Search a popular newspaper (The Times, Guardian, Daily Mail, Sun) and mind-map an idea for a piece of writing based on the first picture you see. This can be done with: people, places, animals, objects etc. See the examples on the website for me. • Write a diary entry logging a journey that was horrific (make it last over three days for extra marks for structure!) • Imagine you are a journalist and you need to interview someone about their most memorable day. Write a transcript for the conversation. (Interviewee can be real or imagined). • Write a letter to your head teacher/local MP/Prime Minister persuading them to: - Change the school calendar - Introduce a more exciting curriculum - Change the way lessons are structured - Alter uniform - Alter catering - Alter classroom layout - Introduce more sports opportunities • Write a letter to your role model (dead or alive) to request they visit your school to deliver a speech on their success. Explain why they are your role model and what you expect from the visit. • Write a newspaper article explaining the events of a tragic event (death of a local hero, fire, flood impact etc.) Include an interview with a witness/bystander • Nominate a friend/local person for ‘Local Hero’ explaining what they have achieved in order to win an award.
