I am immensely proud of our sixth form provision, which opens the door to an exciting and vibrant future. Ours is an inclusive community that challenges students to be the best they can. Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and our student-led approach makes for a bespoke sixth form experience both in terms of a wide-ranging curriculum and a varied and diverse enrichment programme. I believe that the core strength of our sixth form comes from the skilled, dedicated and supportive sixth form team, who build strong relationships with students. Whatever your dreams, whatever your aspirations, these relationships will ignite them. I invite you to come on a journey with us to shape your future. Mr Jackson, Head of Sixth Form

At UCC we place academic performance at the heart of everything we do. However, such a narrow focus alone would fail to capture the essence of sixth form life. Success in the sixth form combines study with leadership opportunities, a diverse enrichment programme and inspirational guest speakers. From the head boy and girl, through the prefect team and via the student body, our sixth form is built by students who are not only comfortable with our ethos but embrace and exemplify it. You will find Ullswater Community College’s sixth form to be a place in which you can grow, thrive, develop career aspirations and become an adult.

The sixth form at UCC will support you in many ways. Specialist staff will take a personal interest in your progress and welfare. Tutor groups are kept small so that you and your tutor get to know each other well and you can be given the attention, care and support you need. The sixth form tutor team includes a UCAS specialist, who oversees applications to universities, as well as plenty of advice on further education, employment and apprenticeships. A learning support mentor is available to assist with essay writing, revision and meeting deadlines and we provide quiet study areas for personal study.

We want you to achieve your ambitions. Our inspirational teaching and extra-curricular activities aim to help you do this. In addition, the departments arrange trips and visits: London (English), Paris (Art and French), Geneva (Physics) and Tanzania are some of the recent destinations. UCC students have also taken part in Oxford and Cambridge University summer schools and in the London International Youth Science Forum. ‘I work more now in the Sixth Form than I did last year because I enjoy what I’m doing.’ Kate, Year 12

Alongside examination results we offer a broad range of activities to enhance your personal and academic development and equip you to succeed in the challenges ahead. The extracurricular activities on offer include: the CREST Gold Award scheme, the Sports Leader’s Award, taking part in school music and drama productions, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, volunteering in the local community and in departments around the school, primary school links, hospital volunteering and being a member of the senior prefect team. ‘I enjoy the freedom.’ Ben, Year 13

The sixth form provides an excellent academic base for students moving on to higher education. In recent years, students have left for degree courses including medicine, law, veterinary medicine, art, business, theatre, engineering, nursing and teaching at universities across the UK. Students also secure apprenticeships and vocational training places on completion of their post-16 studies. ‘You feel like you belong to a family... like you belong here.’ Beth, Year 12

With such a wide range of destinations, the sixth form at UCC really is the gateway to the rest of your life. We hope that the experiences we provide during your sixth form years will equip you with the skills and knowledge that you need to move on to the next stage of your life. We pride ourselves on providing as many opportunities as possible to enable you to make a difference and to fulfil your career, job and university goals. ‘I feel like help is always there if I need it - from teachers, my tutor and the Sixth Form team.’ Jack, Year 12

One advantage of a large sixth form is that we can offer a wide range of courses. We currently offer more than 20 advanced-level subjects, which are complemented by level 3 BTEC courses in Medical Science, IT, I Media, Sport, Business and Performing Arts. The sixth form also offers taught GCSE re-sit courses in English and Mathematics and a range of opportunities for students studying at levels 1 and 2 through the ASDAN qualifications.

At UCC we are proud to celebrate our students’ achievements through prize day, our summer ball and the presentation evening. An excellent record of outstanding teaching and examination success ensures access to Russell Group universities and degree courses that open up a world of opportunity to UCC students. Our vibrant alumni programme, in which previous students share their experiences, also enhances higher education and career planning. In all, 99% of our students achieve one or more passes at A level and 47% of all the entries are at grade A*, A or B.
