Year 8 Summary of content: The exam will cover reading and writing skills. Suggestions of how to prepare: 1. Read 19th century short stories from the mystery genre- these are readily available online. 2. Make yourself familiar with other Victorian texts, such as Dracula, Frankenstein and works by Dickens 3. Look up unfamiliar words to improve your vocabulary. 4. Practice writing short descriptive paragraphs and then draw what you’ve described to see if you have created a good picture. 5. Learn to spell correctly any frequently mis-spelt words. You can ask your teacher for an APP sheet which will tell you what you have to do to reach a certain level. Important information: The reading task will be based on reading a passage and answering questions that show you understand the meaning and the language used. The writing task will involve writing a short story.
