PICTURE PERFECT

Ulster Tatler’s Michaela Colgan speaks to Chloe, make-up artist at Clare Mckinney Make-Up & Beauty.

Chloe’s make-up look for the September cover photoshoot. What made you decide you wanted to be a make-up artist?

I have always been an artsy person from no age! I love playing with colours and creating new looks. I’ve been inspired by so many make-up artists and I am aiming to be in their shoes one day.

How long have you been working in the beauty industry?

I went straight into the beauty industry at the young age of 16 and have been at it ever since.

What do you like most about it?

My favourite thing about my job is the feel good factor. I just love seeing how my work can make someone feel so good about themselves. It’s a real treat seeing someone leave their appointment happy.

What would you say is your favourite product?

I use a wide range of products it’s hard to single out just one but if I had to pick it would be my KASH beauty secret treasure palette. This palette just dropped last September. It’s super wearable for anyone and really easy to work with.

You were recently the make-up artist for this month’s cover photoshoot, what was your inspiration for this look?

My inspiration for my cover shoot was the soft glowing skin looks seen on NARS, Pat McGrath and Artist Couture’s summer campaigns. I love a flawless, fresh face with lots of gloss and highlight.

Do you offer wedding make up trials? And do you do wedding day call outs?

Yes I do! Before the big day I always would like to do a trial maybe a few weeks before the wedding just so my client and I can get our ideas together and create the look that is perfect for her. Brides can come to us in the salon or I can travel to them (there’s a call out charge based on travel time from the salon).

For any further questions or if you would like to book Chloe for a special occasion or wedding please contact the salon on 02892611111

MY

EDEN MCALISTER

Belfast representative for Miss Great Britain 2021.

1. What do you love most about pageants?

What I love most about pageantry is the memories and people that you meet. Pageants build your self-esteem and self-confi dence, make friendships, teach poise, public speaking, and show the importance of being involved in your community and charity by using your voice for something good and meaningful. Pageants have taught me so much that I can apply to my daily life, and I learn more about myself and how to be a better version of myself every time I do a pageant.

2. What has been your career highlight to date?

There have been so many highlights of my career from winning Miss Teen Galaxy Ireland, top 5 in Miss Northern Ireland and moving over to the UK and being accepted into the huge pageant sisterhood and winning Miss Pageant Girl UK 2019. But the best highlight of my career so far has to be when I get to represent Belfast in Miss Great Britain in September. Finally…not forgetting my fi rst front cover of Ulster Tatler for the July edition.

3. What are your favourite hobbies/ activities outside of work?

I love travelling to new places, experiencing their culture and meeting new people – although relatively young, I have visited quite a few countries and places growing up with my mum, my dad and also through experiences like gymnastics. Obviously travel has been hindered these last few years by the global pandemic, but I have my bucket list ready for when life hopefully returns to a bit of normality for us all.

4. What is your daily routine?

At the minute I don’t have much of a daily routine after moving back from living in England for four years, as I am trying to settle back in. Come September I am starting my masters in Law at Queens University so hopefully by then I will have a better routine.

5. Do you have a fi tness regime?

From a young age I have always been involved in dance, gymnastics and fi tness. This has shown me hard work and discipline throughout daily life. I go to the gym and love long walks. When I have a competition coming up I tend to take it up a gear and get personal training for a more tailored approach.

6. Do you have any tips for staying positive?

The best tip to stay positive is to surround yourself with strong like-minded people who support you. Also focusing on the good things while practicing gratitude, and always looking forward for what is to come in the future. Keep setting yourself goals, remind yourself daily that opinions aren’t facts, so stop caring what other people think, and stop focusing on things you don’t have and keep appreciating what you do. All of this will keep you in a positive mind frame.

7. What do you think is the best thing about living in Northern Ireland?

What I love about Northern Ireland is that it is the place that I call home. No matter where I am in the world, coming back to Belfast is just so special, the sense of community, everybody seems to know everyone, and it is so friendly unlike anywhere else in the UK. But aside from that the best thing would have to be the people. I honestly think that the people in Northern Ireland have the biggest hearts, are so friendly and have the best lingo – where else would you get the great craic!

8. What is your mantra or favourite quote that you live by?

My life quote is simple. “There is no failure, you either win or you learn” and that I am enough.

9. Who has been your biggest infl uence?

I am infl uenced by so many strong, educated women who empower me throughout my pageantry. But on a personal note, I owe much of who I am to my mother and grandmothers. Because of them, I have learnt how to love unconditionally, how to be independent, and to never give up on my goals and believe in myself. I am grateful and thankful to every woman who has infl uenced me in my life.
