The nurses and doctors took such good care of her In January 2013, our daughter, Reagan, was rushed by ambulance to UMass Memorial ER because she was retracting and having a lot of congestion. She was diagnosed with RSV. They admitted her overnight on 5 East for observation due to her Down syndrome. The nurses and doctors took such good care of her. She went home the very next day. The hospital staff couldn't get over how adorable she is! She's a little trooper and a huge blessing! - Tara Savage
All-star care UMass Memorial provided all-star care for my son’s broken arm. My son’s town baseball championship was cut short because of a break caused by a hard pitch, which fractured his ulna. His team was so supportive and ended up winning the championship. The staff at UMass Memorial was so helpful and informative for the many weeks of recovery and cast changes. They even wrapped his cast to match the team he was on. Even though his arm was broken there was a place for him on the All Star Team. They won that district championship too. It was hard for Dante to sit in the dugout but no matter how hot out it was or rainy, he cheered his teammates on. Now my son is back on the field, ice and slopes as good as new because of the quality care UMass Memorial provided. - Natasha Colonero
They helped me to my car My daughter went in late last night for severe breathing difficulties. They helped calm her down and once she fell asleep they were able to help her without her getting more worked up. They helped me to my car with all my things, and the nurse was so kind and caring. - Rachel Darci
Everyone treated us great When my son was three months old, he was brought there by ambulance for a fever. Everyone treated us great. We were there for five days and didn't have one bad experience. Now he's a happy, healthy two year old. - Therese Smith
UMass Memorial is the best UMass Memorial is the best. My son (11 years old) was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year ago in September, and he has Dr. Angelesco; she is so kind to him and is always available. This past September my same son was diagnosed with Celiac. He was treated by Dr. Lirio...again one of the nicest doctors I have ever met!!!! - Erin Mateer Goulet
They have been fabulous‌ I love the pediatrics emergency department at UMass Memorial. They have been fabulous with my son both times he had to be seen for an emergency. They put my mind at ease and earned my trust that my child will be well cared for in the hands of these pediatric emergency doctors. Bonus: Our second visit was Christmas night, and they gave toys to their pediatric patients that were there on Christmas. How thoughtful! They're the best!! - Courtney Denis
I am at ease to know we are supported‌ My son is well today because of the awesome team from the Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic. The pediatric diabetes center has played a major part in making sure Cameron is healthy. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 22 months old. It was a scary time for us but the diabetes nurses, Karen and Nancy, were by our sides for three days making sure we had a handle on his disease before we went home. Everyone on Dr. Feldman's team has shown such care and compassion every time we have called with questions and with our routine appointments. There is always someone from the diabetes team on call if we ever run into trouble. As a parent, I am at ease knowing we are supported 24/7 by such a great team! Next month will be a year since Cameron was diagnosed, and I am so thankful we are surrounded by wonderful people who truly care about my son. Thank you pediatric endocrinology! - Amy McGeary
UMass Memorial is our go-to care team I am well because he is well...That is my son Corey. Not only was I a patient in the high risk OB office, but we spent one month in the NICU and two months in the PICU. With 52 hours in labor, I saw and was cared for by a large group of wonderful nurses and doctors across a variety of shifts. Corey was born with a TEF/AE and Dr. Pradeep Nazarey and the pediatric team repaired Corey's trachea on day four of life. The NICU staff was there encouraging us and supporting my pumping through the tough first month of Corey's life. Sadly, only two days at home brought us an emergency trip into the ER in the snow storm of 2013, where even the reception staff recognized the severity of Corey's status as we later learned he developed a chylothrorax collapsing his right lung. That ER team saved our son. The PICU team then took over and helped us get through the slow and tedious process of recovering from a chylothorax with chest tubs and medications. The pediatric floor was wiling to work with two parents who had really been through hell. We have worked with so many people at UMass Memorial and honestly, they treat us with such respect and understanding that even during our several return trips people come to visit and check on Corey. UMass Memorial is our go-to care team and we thank God every day for their dedication and willingness to understand that it is not just our son who needs their care, but also his parents who know their baby inside out and backwards. I am well because he is treated well by all those we meet at UMass Memorial. THANK YOU DOES NOT EVEN BEGIN TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE. - Taryn Barlow
I hope she reads this A family member was recently diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and was immediately admitted by Mary Lindholm, who has a wonderful bedside manner. Wisely, the patient was sent to the pediatrics unit where a top-notch crew of nurses provided thorough counseling, nutrition and diabetes care education, plus emotional support. Also, a doctor visited simply to share her own experience as a diabetic. This visit, because the doctor was so positive and upbeat, brought great relief and hope to the patient. I wish I knew the name of the doctor so that I could thank her. I hope she reads this. - Laura Fontaine
…best in my families book Approximately eight years ago, my daughter that has special situations needed surgery. My husband and I knew who would be the best orthopedic surgeon to operate on her. But we did go for a second opinion in Boston. That was not a good choice for our child. Dr. Errol Mortimer was beyond our greatest thoughts for this rough, long surgery. He is just the best in my families book. We could never thank him enough. And our child adores him! UMass Memorial is very lucky to have him, and he is so pediatric! - Judy Shapiro Flynn
This story is a letter of appreciation for a nurse named Sarah who was working with Dr. Sagor in Primary Care Pediatrics at UMass Memorial University Campus in December 2014. My daughter, also named Sarah, had been studying in Ireland for 4 months and had multiple sore throats and fevers, which was very uncommon for her. Due to this, Dr. Sagor had requested a strep-throat swab. My daughter is generally a very healthy young lady and was not accustomed to having these throat swabs done. Unfortunately, she is very, very anxious about gagging, and she had a serious panic attack. Nurse Sarah was absolutely amazing about how she remained patient, professional, and encouraging. Her voice was soothing and her words were well chosen to talk my Sarah through the situation. Several times Nurse Sarah's phone was buzzing and my Sarah tried to talk her way out of the test by insisting that the phone was important and must be answered, but Nurse Sarah said, 'You are my most important priority right now.' We found out later that the calls were informing her that she was late for lunch. She never let on that she was giving up more than 20 minutes of her lunch time to help a 19 year old girl through a strep swab. It should have been a 2 minute procedure rather than such an extended ordeal; however, Nurse Sarah's calm, sweet voice never wavered. We are so grateful for her kindness. I wish the session could have been videotaped as a training in how to deal with a patient in a panicked state. Nurse Sarah did everything correctly. My daughter was not trying to be defiant in any way. It was a fear that she could not shake, but Nurse Sarah helped her work through it. We are so sorry that she had to miss her lunch for it. We hope that she was be able to have extra time awarded to her at another time for her exemplary service. We are grateful for the care and compassion that we always receive from the doctors and nurses at UMass Memorial, no matter how big or small the issue. Deborah Quinn
