In the Chinese Style By RALPH KNIGHT & LIN MIN EN In The Chinese Style is an exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting by the master of Li Shu calligraphy, Lin Min En and his Australian pupil, Ralph Knight that showcases the potential of artistic and cultural links between Townsville (regional Australia) and southern China. Lin Min En’s works confidently display mastery of the principles of Chinese art; brushwork, structure, space, tradition and versatility that reflect the history and techniques of Chinese calligraphy. Ralph Knight’s works
display an understanding and skill in calligraphy learnt from the master while painting his own subjects e.g. Australian grass trees, in the Chinese style. The works in this exhibition reflect links between traditional Chinese calligraphy, using the brush, ink and various papers and contemporary Chinese interpretations of traditional themes. Mediums used include traditional silk scrolls, works mounted on silk, on paper and works that Ralph has set in contemporary screens.
