UMDASCH DESINFECTION SOLUTIONS – UV-C LED Introduction Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology has existed for many years, but chemicals are still very prominent in disinfection applications today. UV disinfection does, however, provide many benefits over chemical options. It cannot be overdosed, and does not produce byproducts, toxins, it does not require the storage of hazardous materials. umdasch Store Makers, by developing UV-C LEDs solutions, has harnessed the benefits of UV disinfection while eliminating the drawbacks of traditional UV light sources. What is UV Light? UV light is a component of sunlight that falls in the region between visible light and X-rays on the electromagnetic spectrum, with a wavelength range of 100-400 nanometres (nm). How Does Germicidal UV Work? Radiation in the UVC range of 250-280 nm deactivates bacteria, viruses, and other microbes by attacking their DNA. UVC light is able to penetrate the cells of microorganisms and disrupt the structure of the DNA molecules. It does this by destroying the genetic information inside the DNA. The microorganisms, in turn, lose their reproductive capability and are destroyed, rendering them inactive and no longer harmful. 2020 COVID-19 Coronavirus Ultraviolet Susceptibility 1) Ultraviolet light can be an effective measure for decontaminating surfaces that may be contaminated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus by inducing photodimers in the genomes of microorganisms. Ultraviolet light has been demonstrated to be capable of destroying viruses, bacteria and fungi in hundreds of laboratory studies (Kowalski 2009). The SARS-CoV-2 virus has not yet been specifically tested for its ultraviolet susceptibility but many other tests on related coronaviruses, including the SARS coronavirus, have concluded that they are highly susceptible to ultraviolet inactivation. Electronics based on CAN interface, robust automotive bus standard designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each making it possible to expand the system with additional sensors and control units UVC exposure is prevented through product safety design considerations and controls Control Units are PIN protected to ensure that the UVC source is not accidentally turned on Passive infrared presence sensors and cabinet door contact sensor ensure secure operation Each UVC system has also non harmful blue light emitting LEDs wired in series, so it is visible when UVC system is on Proper installation, education of user’s staff, operating instructions and recommendations for proper use of UV system are provided by trained umdasch Store Makers professionals
