ngs My Hawk Family, such a rewarding opportunity to serve as your nal Alumni Association 2nd Vice President and ership Chair, for my brief term of December 20232024. As I reflect on my journey being a Hawk, I am gratitude for being amongst the excellence that is sented through our campus, National Alumni iation, and local chapters. I am forever grateful to ellow Hawk in this dynamic community!

I am no longer in an official position, my Hawk and hope for us growing our membership ns! As a new membership year begins, I rage all financial Hawks to find another Hawk to e NAA and local chapters Membership dues are very year on July 1 but dues are accepted ghout the membership year Memberships are ve from July 1st to June 30th Being a member is a pportunity and provides space to network and ship with other alumni, room to create tunities for current students and future Hawks, and nor to positively represent our alma mater!

NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, Membership Committee

Our NAA Membership Committee hosted a Membership Challenge from April 1, 2024 through June 30, 2024. Our 11 local alumni chapters competed against one another to see which chapter could obtain the most associate, regular and life members for the 2024-2025 membership year that began on July 1. The chapters accrued points based on the memberships level received at the local and national level for the 2024-2025 membership year. Our winners were 1st Place UMES Southern Maryland Alumni Chapter, Inc., 2nd Place Greater Annapolis Alumni Chapter and 3rd Place UMES Baltimore Alumni Chapter, Inc.

NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, Development Committee

Our Development Committee hosted a Chip In! Fundraiser selling Aimly chips, a minority based family owned business in Texas. Congratulations to our top Aimly Potato Chips fundraisers! In 1st place we have Amber Taylor, 1st Vice President of our Greater Atlanta Alumni Chapter. In 2nd place we have Kimberly Carrington, 1st Vice President of our Philadelphia Alumni Chapter and in 3rd place we have Jennifer Miles, Ways & Means Chair for our Greater Annapolis Alumni Chapter. All participating chapters raised more than $100.00 and are to be commended. Collectively, your support allowed us to raise $1,267.00 for our programs and initiatives. Please be on the lookout for more of our fundraising efforts.

Tifanie Bishop,

classof2001isaHawktohercore Infact, she is a UMES legacy as both of her parents are proud Maryland State College alumni. Moreover, the extensive training she received while completing her bachelor’s degree in Special Education has provided her with a strong foundation to enrich the lives of young people for the past 23 years Subsequently, in 2008, she earned a master’sdegreeinCurriculumandInstructionfromCentralMichigan As a tenured educator, Tifanie uses her vast experience and formal training to not only teach special education students, but also, mentor teachers, facilitate workshops, and plan various programs andworkshopsforexceptionaleducationstudentsandparents.

Furthermore, Tifanie is a Charter Member of the Greater Atlanta Area Alumni Chapter (GAAC) where she has been instrumental in thechapter’sgrowth.Currently,sheservesastheRecording

Secretary. In addition, in this capacity, Tifanie has served as the chapter liaison for a myriad of programming events. Even more, she has worked tirelessly to ensure the GAAC become connected with other HBCUs in Georgia. Due to her efforts, UMES was reinstated as a participatinggroupwiththeMEACcookoutafteraneight-yearabsence.Also,shenetworkedon behalf of the chapter to initiate engagement activities with the Atlanta Area Mid Atlantic HBCU group To continue, with her earnestness to create visibility for the GAAC, she cultivated partnerships with the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta United sports teams Finally, as a dedicated Hawk and GAAC member, she has persistently served to increase awareness of UMES’ greatnessinthesouth,especiallywithintheAtlantaarea

Roberts,

classof2005,earnedherBachelorofScience degree in Biology. Kia is the daughter of two proud UMES graduates, who instilled in her, from an early age, the importance of a good education and Hawk Pride! Kia’s professional journey began at the prestigious John Hopkins Hospital, where she worked in the Microbiology Lab She is now employed at a medical technology company Over the years, Kia has held several leadership positions within UMES Baltimore Alumni Chapter, Inc, including her most recent role as the Corresponding Secretary. Additionally, she serves as the Vice President of her son ’ s Parent Teacher Association and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Kia is inspired daily by her family and friends and in her free time, she enjoys playing video gameswithherson.

E'vette Arrington,

isaproudPhillyHawk!Shewasbornand raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; The city of brotherly love and sisterly affection! If you ' ve met E'vette, then I'm sure you have experiencedherbubblypersonality,herwarmnurturingnatureandher love for philanthropy and volunteerism. She is also a big advocate for HBCUs. She attended University of Maryland Eastern Shore from Fall 94 as an Incoming Freshman to Spring 97 as an outgoing Junior before returning home to Philly and later beginning her senior year at a local university.WhilestudyingatUMES,E'vetteparticipatedinadualdegree program for Social Work and Sociology and served in SGA as the Freshman Class President Over the past 30 years she has carried those skills with her within her personal life as well as her 10+ year career with The Philadelphia Housing Authority which is the 4th largest Housing Authority in the nation. She has organized numerous fundraisersandledvolunteereventswithorganizationalpartnerships

such as The Philadelphia Eagles, The Philadelphia Flyers, Operation Brotherly Love, Northern Home forChildren,GeneralMotorsAcceptanceCorporationandtheSusanGKomenfoundation Herlove forhelpingothersandherstrongHawkPrideisthecatalystanddrivingforcebehindherdedication to the UMES National Alumni Association as well as the local Philadelphia Chapter. When it comes to being an active and financial member her motto is "Either you have Hawk Pride or you don't. It's thatsimple".

Barbara Ann Trott-Jones, classof1977,earneda

Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Science She also earned a Master of Education degree from Salisbury University (1986) aswellasadditionalcontinuingeducationstudiesdegreeatWilmington University in Georgetown, Delaware. Barbara was employed as a teacher at Stephen Decatur Middle School in Berlin, MD of the Worcester County Public Schools in Newark, Maryland before retiring in July 2021. She is a member of Wesley Temple United Methodist Church, United Women in Faith, UMES Tri-County Alumni Chapter, Princess Anne Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, Worcester County Retired School Personnel Association/Maryland Retired School Personnel Association, and the Maryland State Education Association/National Education Association. She is formally a resident of St. Michaels, Maryland area (Talbot County), now residing in Salisbury, Maryland (Wicomico County). Allen J. Singleton,classof1959,iseducator, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He received his BS degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, M.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Columbia University, Certificate in Computer Operations and Languages from IBM Corp, and Professional Certificate in Business Systems Analysis from New York University He has taught every grade level from seventh through graduate school He has a lecture Hall in the Hazel Building, and a room in Student Service Center named in his honor, has been a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) DistinguishedAlumniAwardrecipient,HallofExcellence Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Wilberforce University, Member of the Hawk Legacy Circle for extraordinary philanthropy and spirit of devotion atUniversityofMarylandEasternShore,andreceivedanaPresident’sHawkLegendAwardin2021. Most recently, he received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from University of Maryland Eastern Shore at the 26th Winter Commencement. Dr. Allen J. Singleton, is the oldest member of the New York City Tri-State Alumni Chapter. He still remains an active member ensuring the chapterthrives.

Dr. Shawn W. Ashworth,

Shawn is very creative, dependable and very organized. She consistently supports and serves parents, students and the UMES community. She has held several positions in The Greater Annapolis Alumni Chapter. She currently is the chairperson for the Scholarship committee. In this capacity she has partnered with local high schools in Anne Arundel County to recruit and process qualified Seniors to attend University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Again, she is in constant contact with these schools on a yearly basis . She also has held several top educational position in the Anne Arundel County public school system. She shows “Hawk Pride” by attending chapter events, wearing university paraphernalia, attending sports events and collaborating with the university. Her leadership skills are impeccable. She has empathy, compassion and shows kindness and willingness to go the extra mile in all that she under takes to serve the people.”
