ABOUT THE ISSUE LETTER FROM STUDENT GOVERNMENT'S ECO AGENCY CHAIR Dear fellow ‘Canes, The Student Government Environment & Conservation Organization (ECO) is proud to present our ‘Earth Month 2022 Celebration’. Since my election as Chair of ECO in the spring of 2021, I knew that I wanted to challenge myself and my members with creating more than a week of programming to celebrate Earth Day. What was once Earth Day - April 22nd - and Earth Week - the entire week leading up to April 22nd, we have changed into Earth Month (the whole month of April). Our goal with Earth Month is to usher in programming that focus on our beloved planet and the people that occupy it. We hope to bridge connections between race, gender, etc. in the environment and teach our fellow peers that protecting the environment is more than just saving animals and trees - we must work together to learn about the intersectionality of environmental justice, which holds the promising key to solving more than just our climate change problems. We have so many exciting collaborations both with on-campus and off-campus community partners. I hope you all use Earth Month as an opportunity to reflect upon what is currently being done and what can be done to achieve our sustainable goals as a University. I wanted to say a special thank you to all of my amazing members and our two advisors, Dr. Heather Stevens and Teddy Lhoutellier, for helping and supporting me throughout the planning of this month.
