2020 Senior apparel design fashion show
Since 1968, apparel design students at the University of Minnesota have been presenting their original designs in an annual Student Fashion Show. Each year the students work draws hundreds of fashion industry professionals, students, family, and friends each year. As an opportunity for apparel students to engage the community with their designs, this event creates a place to discuss fashion and the many different roles apparel plays in our lives. The show marks the completion of their academic journey, and launches them into varied careers in the apparel industry.
This year’s senior apparel design class began developing their original collections in the spring of 2018 and worked with industry mentors to focus their research, inspiration, and audience. In the fall they designed and produced the collection while planning and promoting AMPLIFIED, the 52nd annual runway show.

AMPLIFIED represents a collective of emerging designers producing work making each of their unique voices heard. As a result of four years of coursework, these student designers have worked to create 16 different collections that express their individual design perspectives, as well as represent diverse voices of fashion on the runway. This year, collections are pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion through the exploration of areas like plus-size, gender-neutral, and sustainable clothing lines.
The AMPLIFIED runway will play to a variety of lifestyles and cultures, from modest formalwear to colorful street style to theatrical costume play. Designs explore social responsibility, gender fluidity, military formalwear, virtual reality, modern cultural expressions and much more.
Each collection is meant to spark emotion and thought, and amplifies the new wave of voices in the future of fashion.
