ANDREA DUNRUD
Andrea Dunrud developed a passion for sewing at age five through lessons with her mother and grandmother, which helped shape her dream of becoming an apparel designer. Andrea’s style can be described as classic with a trendy twist, and a preference for natural fibers. Andrea has worked as an design intern for a local Minnesota designer, Laura Hlavac and Kohl’s Department Stores. Through these experiences she developed technical and creative design skills and showcased her innovative thinking and leadership. Once Andrea learned about the dangers of fast fashion and how much textile waste the apparel process creates, she began to research sustainability and incorporate it into her work while studying abroad at the London College of Fashion. Andrea’s goal is advocate for sustainable fashion design. She aspires to lead the industry in sustainable AND cutting edge fashion.
Appalled and inspired by the vast amount of clothing and textiles thrown away each year, Andrea used a love of thrifting to create Reduce, Reuse, Restyle. Using exclusively reused garments as her raw materials, Andrea has created new textiles and textures by making yarn from t-shirts, fringe from old jeans, and dresses from suit jackets. Her goal is to empower women to look at their old clothing, and give it new life. Targeted towards millennials, this unique Fall/Winter line is a way for women to dress both sustainably and fashionably in their everyday lives.
