Jessica Wheeler ’19 won second place in the Epstein Becker Green Writing Competition for her note, “Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics: Privacy Protections in Integrated Care.” The competition is designed to encourage J.D. and LL.M. students in the preparation of scholarly papers on current topics of interest relating to health law.

A team that included three law students, including Caroline Sell, 3L, (pictured above), recently placed 3rd out of 16 in the University of Minnesota’s inaugural interdisciplinary Health Data Competition. The competition required students to explore the Minnesota Department of Health’s new prescription drug public use files and provide innovative insights, analysis, and recommendations based on their findings.

Study with World-Class Faculty Dynamic and engaged, Minnesota Law faculty are renowned scholars and committed teachers. Our faculty includes: • Professor Amy B. Monahan, who teaches and writes in the areas of federal taxation and employee benefits law was awarded the American Law Institute’s Young Scholars Medal in 2013 in recognition of her work on both public pensions and health care reform, and its potential to influence improvements in the law. Her scholarship focuses primarily on health and retirement plan regulation, and she has been actively involved in state and national efforts to improve the law in both areas.

Professor June Carbone is the Robina Chair in Law, Science, and Technology. She is an expert in family law, assisted reproduction, property, and law, medicine and bioethics.

• Professor Francis X. Shen, who is a McKnight Presidential Fellow, also serves as Executive Director of Education and Outreach for the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Law and Neuroscience. He conducts empirical and interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law and the brain sciences. • Professor Susan M. Wolf, who is a nationally renowned expert in health law and bioethics, is also the McKnight Presidential Professor of Law, Medicine & Public Policy; Faegre Baker Daniels Professor of Law; and Professor of Medicine. She is Chair of the Consortium on Law and Values in Health, Environment & the Life Sciences and faculty chair of the Law School’s Concentration in Health Law and Bioethics.

Professor Ralph F. Hall is a professor of practice at the Law School. He concentrates his teaching, research, and writing in the area of FDA regulation and health care.

Professor Francis X. Shen works on issues at the intersection of law and the brain sciences. This year, he is teaching Law & Neuroscience at Minnesota Law.
