News@TheU: University forms new center to battle Miami's HIV epidemic The University of Miami established the Center for HIV and Research in Mental Health whose aim is to curb the local Greater Miami HIV/AIDs epidemic. Drs. Daniel Feaster, Adam Carrico, and Raymond Balise from the Department of Public Health Sciences will be involved in the center by contributing their expertise in public health, psychology, and biostatistics.

InventUM: Florida Institute for Health Innovation Selected to Lead Regional Hurricane Response Hub The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine partnered with the Florida Institute for Health Innovation (FIHI) to improve hurricane-disaster preparedness. FIHI, a non-pro t organization that improves public health through innovative and collaborative change, will now serve as one of the ve regional technical assistance centers for the Hurricane Response Hub.

InventUM: Solemn Event Marks Anniversary of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shootings The Department of Public Health Sciences co-sponsored "This Is America – Mass Shooting Memorial Event," a self-guided tour of various mass shooting events that have occurred throughout the years. The event was created and hosted by Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) alumni and University of Miami students.

RESEARCH AND INITIATIVES Miami Herald: Life-saving needle exchange started with a UM med student. Now it’s legal statewide. The Florida Senate voted 40-0 to expand the IDEA Exchange program statewide. People who inject drugs will be able to exchange used needles for clean ones if their county governments can establish their own needle exchanges.

ASPPH: Study Shows Association Between Neighborhood Greenness and Heart Disease The ndings could lead to new preventative strategies to lower the risk of developing four types of heart disease.
