WINTER BREAK AND SPRING 2022 SEMESTER UPDATE
Dear DPHS Students,
I trust that you’ve had a successful Fall semester. As we approach the Winter holidays and beginning of Spring semester, below is important information regarding Spring 2022 registration and course schedule. Winter Holidays The Department will be closed the week of December 24-31. Many faculty and staff will be on vacation before and after this period. Therefore, if you need assistance with course registration or any other matter, you are strongly encouraged to reach out to the Graduate Programs Office before December 24th. DPHS Winter & Spring Break Course Registration As a reminder, Spring registration is open and classes are filling up. If you are planning to take any of the courses offered during the DPHS Winter & Spring Break you will need assistance with registration. You must register in Canelink before the course start date. Please reach out to my office for assistance with registration before December 23, 2021. The Spring 2022 drop add dates will apply for the DPHS Winter & Spring Break courses above. Spring semester classes begin – January 18, 2022 Last day to add a course – January 26, 2022 Last day to drop a course without a W – February 2, 2022
Canelink Registration All students, must enroll in Canelink to ensure that credits taken are counted towards your degree. A series of Canelink tutorial videos are in Blackboard to assist you with registration. Please visit the one stop shop in Blackboard, under the courses tab to find the canelink tutorials. Academic Advising Hold All students have an “Academic Advising Hold.” Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to discuss course selection. After meeting with you, your advisor will send me an email to release the advising hold so you can enroll in the selected courses. It is your responsibility to resolve all other holds placed on your account. This includes a financial, international, health, social security, missing documents hold, etc. You may visit ‘Canes Central website for information on holds, registration, financial aid, inquiries, forms, etc.

Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Paige Finkelstein, MD, MPH, EIT Paige Finkelstein, MD, MPH, EIT is the founder and chief medical officer of ERInfo, which is a technology company that develops products and solutions for global problems that commonly occur during emergency situations. Dr. Finkelstein graduated from the joint degree MD/MPH program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences in 2018.

INSTRUCTIONAL MODALITY – SPRING 2022 SEMESTER
The Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) intends to offer the Spring 2022 courses using a blended teaching modality that is both in person as well as online via Blackboard and Zoom. The precise blend will vary from class to class and is subject to change as local pandemic conditions develop. As has been done since the pandemic began, all of our course instructors are committed to accommodating any class absences due to illness, quarantine, etc. All updates regarding the instructional modality of DPHS courses will be communicated accordingly.
