RULES AND ETIQUETTES OF SPEECH IN ISLAM On contrary to the common misconceptions and notions about religion of peace Islam because of that people believe that It is a tedious religion, strict religious rituals and obligations, Islam in actual is a complete code of life and addresses matter regarding to each and every single aspect of life.

Besides other major and important matters related to life, one of the significant aspects upon which Islam sheds light is the issue of speech. The speech of a person shows the type of character and intellect he or she has, hence, the more polite and refined the speech is the superior is thought of that person. The lines below talk about the major etiquettes of speech in the light of teachings of Islam. Etiquette 1: In Holy Quran, verse 25:63 ALLAH Almighty says: And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,

From the above mentioned ayah of Holy Quran, one of the main characteristics of the speech of Muslims is clear. It is that Muslim does not respond bad words with bad words, but they make peace with such kind of people and avoid indulging with them in unproductive conversations that lead to nothing but lack knowledge and foolishness of any sort. Hence, a Muslim should refrain from indulging in talk with foolish people, respond to their awful words with gentleness, and go on your own path. Verse 25:72 of Holy Quran “If they pass by some vain speech or play, they pass by it with dignity.” Hence, instead of indulging in vain and foolish people and talk, a Muslim should refrain from them and make excuse with them in gentle speech.

• Etiquette 2: In Quran, verse 31:19-20 ALLAH Almighty says: “And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys. Do you not see that ALLAH has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favours, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about ALLAH without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him]”. This verse points out two thing associated to firstly with speech and secondly with discourse. At first ALLAH Almighty instructs Muslims to be moderate in their speed of talking and should keep their voices low. These two are perhaps the most significant elements that are considered the best type of speech.

• Etiquette 3: Indulging in disputes is also among the major speech problems observed in speech of people. Concerning different matters people indulges in dispute and then they try to prove themselves right and the other person wrong.

• Etiquette 4: Abusing other people has become a part of normal conversation today. Even the most civil persons curse and abuse as a fashion and consider it good in their speech. Islam completely dislikes this act of abusing others. Etiquette 5: Muslim must refrain while in speech is anger. Whenever anger is present in a speech, the result is a person looses the grip of senses, which ultimately leads to an uncivil language and false judgment.
