THE SUPPORT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED At University of Maryland Global Campus, we’ve been serving the military since 1947. So we understand the demands of military life and are committed to serving you. We know that scholarships and financial assistance programs can come in handy when military TA and education benefits are unavailable or exhausted. That’s where we come in. At UMGC, we are proud to offer a wide array of scholarships and financial assistance programs for military personnel, veterans, spouses, and family members.


UMGC SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS Pillars of Strength Scholarship Program Caregivers of recovering servicemembers and veterans can apply to receive a full scholarship through the Pillars of Strength Scholarship Program. This program was designed to honor the commitment of caregivers, who often provide excellent care while delaying their own pursuits. umgc.edu/pillarsapp

UMGC-NMFA Scholarship for Military Spouses First-time, full-time UMGC students who are members of the National Military Family Association can apply to receive a scholarship for spouses of active-duty, reservist, or National Guard servicemembers. umgc.edu/nmfa

Veterans Assistance Fund Student veterans can apply for grant-based financial assistance through the Veterans Assistance Fund, designed to help cover education-related costs when Federal financial aid and VA benefits are unavailable or insufficient. umgc.edu/veteransfund

Veterans Initiatives Office Scholarships Twice a year, UMGC offers six scholarships to military-affiliated students who are active members of the SALUTE Honor Society, mentors in the One2One Mentorship Program, or participants in the Vessey Veterans Resource Center’s Virtual Student Union. umgc.edu/vio

Student Veteran of the Year Award The Student Veteran of the Year Award recognizes a veteran who has excelled in both their military and academic careers. umgc.edu/studentvet


UMGC DONOR SCHOLARSHIPS After you become a UMGC student and successfully complete 15 undergraduate or 9 graduate credits, the Office of Financial Aid will invite you to apply for donor-funded scholarships, if you’re eligible. Each of these scholarships has unique eligibility criteria, and several are exclusive to military-affiliated students. This list of scholarships includes the following: Dr. Joseph J. Arden Overseas Marylanders Association Scholarship Ed and Jean Miller Answering the Call Scholarship General John W. Vessey, Jr. Scholarship LTC (Ret.) Anthony and Lillian J. Masi Scholarship for Families of Retired Veterans of Maryland V ietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship We offer more than 100 scholarships to current students through this process. If you meet the requirements for one or more of these scholarships, you could be awarded up to $2,000 per academic year. Be sure to complete the FAFSA early! Scholarships from Outside Sources Though we pride ourselves on our ability to serve you, we aren't the only game in town. As such, we encourage you to apply for third-party scholarship opportunities such as the CCME Scholarship and the NAIMES Student Spotlight Award. Plus, you should check to see if your state education agency offers military-focused scholarship opportunities. For example, the State of Maryland offers the MHEC Veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts Scholarship Program. Learn more at umgc.edu/milscholarships.
