You can also use our Find an Advisor On Base tool to find contact information for dedicated military and veteran advisors who regularly visit bases across the country. This tool is particularly helpful if you are looking to pinpoint UMGC advising office hours at bases where we do not have full-time services five days a week.

Certain locations may offer expanded course options delivered via live streaming from one classroom to another, thereby increasing the ability for interaction among students. Housing Allowance

Our hybrid courses meet the VA’s requirements for in-residence training under the Post-9/11 GI Bill ®. Your exact monthly housing allowance will be determined by your benefit rate and your course location.

Student Veterans of America, UMGC Chapter

This student-run club provides an in-person and online community to ensure fellow veterans and their families have a voice on campus.

WAYS TO PAY FOR YOUR EDUCATION

As a student veteran, you may be eligible for a wide range of payment options. Our dedicated veterans advisors can show you ways to meet, manage, and lower your education costs. Explore the following options:

Veterans education benefits, which you can use to help pay for your education at UMGC , subject to eligibility.

Housing allowance for Post-9/11 GI Bill ® students, depending on the class format you choose–online or hybrid.

Federal financial aid, which offers grants such as the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant as well as flexible Federal student loans that you can pay back over time. Be sure to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for aid.

State aid, which can include grants and scholarships. Maryland residents may be eligible for different types of state aid programs offered by the Maryland Highe r Education Commission

Veterans Assistance Fund, designed to help student veterans cover costs related to education when Federal financial aid and VA benefits are unavailable or exhausted.

Interest-free monthly payment plan, which allows you to pay your tuition over the course of several months or the full semester, rather than in one lump sum.

Loans, including low-rate, flexible Federal loans that you can pay back over time.

VETERANS BENEFITS

Student veterans who are eligible for any VA educational benefit can use their benefits at UMGC . We also process benefits for and work extensively with Chapter 31 beneficiaries. The benefits listed below are the two that are used most often.

GI Bill®

1 Active-duty servicemembers and veterans can be 50 percent to 100 percent eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill ® based on the number of months of creditable service, as determined by the VA.

2 The maximum number of months of benefits may exceed 36 when the student is eligible for more than one program.

3 Based on the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2017, if separated from the military on or after January 1, 2013, Post-9/11 GI Bill ® benefits are a lifetime entitlement. If separated prior to January 1, 2013, 15 years from the last day of active duty.

4 Non-resident students paying the non-resident tuition rate may be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program if they are 100 percent eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill ® UM GC and the VA each pay 50 percent of the unmet cost after the VA has paid the maximum in-state rate.

5 Students can use the GI Bill® Comparison Tool at va.gov/gi-bill-comparison-tool to calculate their monthly housing stipend.
