My Fellow Marylanders, For 75 years, University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) has focused on meeting adult and military students where they are, offering access to learning experiences tailored to those who seek more than traditional education can provide. UMGC’s impact in Maryland is profound, enrolling more community college transfer students and graduating more Marylanders than any other institution, including in highdemand fields like cybersecurity, biotechnology, and analytics.

UMGC in Maryland: Supporting Our Students Through the Maryland Completion Scholarship program, eligible Maryland community college graduates can complete a bachelor's degree at UMGC for $12,000 or less, well below the typical cost of in-state tuition. Since spring 2014, more than 13,400 of these scholarships have been awarded and 6,230 recipients have completed a UMGC credential. In a special agreement with Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), students are simultaneously admitted to both CCBC and UMGC. Under the newly launched program, those students who complete an associate degree transfer credit seamlessly toward a bachelor’s degree at UMGC. More than 80 students are also enrolled in the Prince George’s 3D Scholars program—a pioneering initiative based in Prince George’s County—which partners UMGC with Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) to offer high-performing students a seamless and accelerated pathway from high school to community college to UMGC. Eligible high school students earn dual credits and can complete a bachelor’s degree for $10,000 or less.
“We are excited to partner with UMGC to give CCBC students this wonderful opportunity. Students who graduate from CCBC will be halfway toward their bachelor’s degree, and they will have access to both colleges’ resources along the way to help them succeed." —Dr. Sandra Kurtinitis, President, CCBC

Get to Know Three Inspiring Graduates Meet Luis Arriaza-Kibby An immigrant from El Salvador, Luis has followed a path that is anything but traditional. As a teenager, he took night classes to learn English through the Montgomery County school system. He later earned his GED and qualified for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). After earning an associate degree from Montgomery College, he was able to transfer his credits to UMGC and earn a bachelor's degree that will help propel him in his career.
Meet Nailah Gibson A 19-year-old college graduate, Nailah is the first student in the Prince George’s 3D Scholars program to earn her UMGC degree. Nailah is now considering a career in law or law enforcement at the age when many are just starting college, and with the help of the scholarship program, she’s now well on her way to realizing her goals without incurring significant debt.
Meet Mae Beale Mae, who participated in UMGC's Grad Walk at the age of 82, captured national media attention with her inspiring story. The Howard County resident was determined to complete her bachelor’s degree in business management after a long and successful career in nursing and health services. Mae owns an event planning business and has spent the past 40 years supporting her Howard County community through activism, civic engagement, and volunteerism. Summer 2022 | umgc.edu
