Flowers Hall has served as the home of the University of North Alabama volleyball team since it opened its doors in 1972, and has been an important part of the Lions success story. The facility currently holds 2,229 seats after its most recent renovation following UNA’s transition to the NCAA Division I level. Throughout its history, Flowers Hall has hosted numerous state and Gulf South Conference tournaments, and was the scene for the firstever GSC volleyball tournament in 1982, where UNA captured the league's fi rst women's sports championship. UNA has hosted the event a total of four times, winning it at home in 1998 and 2000 before coming up short in 2005. was replaced with a new synthetic fl oor. Also, in that same year a new four-sided scoreboard was added to enhance the Lion’s home court. In 1989 new theater seating was installed on the home side for season-ticket holders. In 2004 the maple wood fl oor was replaced, as were the scoreboards and scorers tables that had been used over the previous 10 years. In 2009, new additions to the scoreboards allowed fans to keep track of digs, kills and assists during volleyball play. The flooring was sanded and repainted in 2013, adding a new UNA athletic logo at center court. As the Lions transitioned into NCAA Division I and the ASUN Conference prior to the 2018-19 season, Flowers Hall got a complete $2.2 million makeover. The wood fl ooring was completely replaced. All seating was also removed. Wooden bleachers were replaced with plastic purple seating on the North, South and East upstairs areas. All lower-area seating was replaced with purple chairback seats. New video scoring tables were added, along with a pair of 18’x10’ video boards as the arena was updated to host future ESPN broadcasts. Upstairs seating on the West side was also removed to make from for the Steve and Sheila Pierce Hospitality Suite, which features a 2,400 square foot common area that overlooks the court and two rows of box seats for donors, special guests and VIPs. UNA went 4-4 at home last season and has gone 269-68 at home since 1995.
