Fort St. John Student wins UNBC’s Green Contest UNBC student Talia Miller of Fort St. John won the big prize at UNBC's fifth annual Green Day this year: $1000 from Integris Credit Union and the chance to have her submission implemented at UNBC. Miller's suggestion to use cold water in the washing machines at UNBC's student residences received the most votes out of the more than 70 submissions. The Green Day Committee is now working with Miller to implement the idea along with an information campaign for students.

Connecting Industry, the Environment, & First Nations A remarkable partnership was forged recently between UNBC, natural gas company Encana, and the Prophet River First Nation south of Fort Nelson, which proved that industrial development can stimulate environmental sustainability and the preservation of traditional knowledge. The partnership involved working to catalogue centuries of traditional ecological knowledge into a map and community booklet. The award-winning collaboration also helped the Prophet River people work with Encana to develop resources in an environmentally and culturally responsible manner.
