SELF-REFLECTION This planner will help you be productive and achieve your goals. But more importantly, it will help you be thoughtful and deliberate with your valuable time. This starts with a genuine self-reflection to assess where you are in life and where you want to be. Carve out some quiet time to reflect on these questions.

Imagine today is your 100th birthday party. Your closest family and friends stand up to give toasts what would they say about you?

Do their words reflect the life you hope to live? What are you proud of? What don’t they say that you wish they would?

What are your core values? These are you fundamental beliefs and guiding principles, the things that matter most to you in life. Examples could be integrity, openmindedness, compassion, courage, faith, family, health, creativity, loyalty, etc.

What do you love to do? Think about the activities, big and small, that make you feel more energized, more relaxed, more fulfilled. How can you better incorporate them into your daily life?

What types of things deplete you? How can you minimize these in your life?

Name one fear you want to overcome this year.

Name one big dream you want to act on this year.

What are your talents and strengths? Think of things that come naturally to you that other people might struggle with.

What do you struggle with? What are your biggest obstacles to achieving your goals? What often holds you back?

2020 VISION BOARD Create your vision board for 2020. This is a space for you to visually lay out what you want this year to hold for you. Feel free to draw, paste photos, anything that illustrates your year ahead.

GOAL BRAINSTORM Research continually shows that people who write down their goals and regularly track them are significantly more likely to achieve them. With that in mind, the next few pages are dedicated to identifying and writing down the goals you want to achieve in 2020. The remainder of this planner is designed to track these goals by integrating them into your daily life.

STEP 1: Identify your themes. Think big. Using what you discovered in your self-reflection, start by listing the areas in your life you want to focus on this year. You might use categories like family, finance, career, home, art, health, travel, social, etc. Or categories such as to learn, to make, to do, to change, to organize, to explore, to fix, etc.

STEP 2: Create your goals. Under each theme, list the goals and projects you’d like to accomplish this year. It’s okay if some don’t fit into a theme exactly - the idea is to create goals that are meaningful to you and align with your values. No goal is too big or too small.

Some examples: to learn a new language, get in better shape, declutter your life, launch a business, reach out to old friends, take more time for yourself, volunteer in the community, get promoted, remodel your bathroom, spend quality time with your family, read more, travel to a new country, master your mom’s fudge recipe, spend more time outdoors, start your degree, organize your photos, floss regularly, spend less time on social media, go bungee-jumping, forgive an old grudge, etc. STEP 3: Make your goals specific. Examine your goals. In order to achieve them, you’ll need to have achievable action items you can check off - so whenever possible, make them specific and measurable.

For example, a goal like “I want to read more” can be made specific and measurable by instead saying “read 30 minutes a day” or “read one novel a month” (or both). In other cases, a bigger goal will need to be broken down into smaller sub-goals. For example, if you wrote “to spend more time outdoors,” break it down into “go camping this summer,” “go for a 10-minute walk every day,” “grow a small herb garden,” etc. Again, the point is to have concrete action items you can complete. Some of your goals might not make sense to break down right now. For example, your biggest goals and projects (e.g. “start a business” or “landscape the backyard”) may have too many details to list on these pages, or you may not know all the specific sub-goals just yet. Still include these in your yearly goals and schedule them in Step 4 below, but plan to flush out details in one of the Project Plan/Goal Breakdown templates (pp. 14-25) when the

2020 GOAL TIMELINE You now have a list of goals for 2020. The next step is to begin the planning process by creating a timeline. You will be referring to these pages frequently as you track your goals throughout the year. Not all goals can be tracked the same way: »» For goals that repeat monthly, weekly or daily, group them in the corresponding boxes below. Then, each month and week there will be a designated space to re-list and track them. »» For goals that don’t make sense in the boxes below, use the grid on the right and choose the month(s) you plan to do them (even if you aren’t sure). Assigning dates to your goals will increase your likelihood of achieving them. Also, this format will help you visually balance your commitments over the year. Each month you will review this timeline and add relevant goals to track.
