Primary among the many energy efficiency measures adopted is the installation of 100% LED lights at all railway buildings and fixtures - only BEE Star rated equipment is used in railway applications. All new railway stations are being built on a net-zero-energy building concept. With the objective of reducing GHG emissions, 23 Driving Power Cars (DPCs) have been converted to dual fuel systems (Diesel + LNG/CNG) – a first of a kind project on the Railways system with LNG on board fuel storage. Retro-fitment of Micro-processor control systems in diesel locomotives have further enhanced fuel efficiency. 4% saving in fuel consumption has been realized at Eng Test Bed with the use of CReDI on ALCo locomotive engine and 2.5% saving in fuel consumption on HHP locomotives.
2% fuel savings and
20% reduction in NOx
is expected through the use of miller cycle-based turbochargers.

Agroforestry India has become the first nation to adopt an agroforestry policy that integrates trees, crops and livestock on the same plot of land. The Har Medh Par Ped campaign by the Sub-Mission on Agroforestry that promotes tree plantation on farmland has been implemented in 20 states across India.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Affordable energy being the key theme of the Government, over 20 million families have been provided LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). More than Rs. 400 billion in subsidy has been transferred to LPG consumers through 204 transactions since the inception of the scheme.

Bamboo Mission The restructured Bamboo Mission benefits 10,000,000 farmers, especially in North Eastern India, that grows 65% of the country’s bamboo
Compensatory Afforestation The Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) allocates funds for afforestation, regeneration of forest ecosystem and wild life protection. This would help to create an additional carbon sink, in line with the INDC of 2.5-3 billion tons of C02 sequestration by 2030.
Plantations for Ganga Rejuvenation Around 10 crore trees are being planted along the banks of River Ganga, covering 1,34,106 Ha across five states to augment forest cover, productivity and biodiversity.
CAMPA facilitates the availability of more than
INR 60 BILLION PER ANNUM to the states for the
CONSERVATION, PROTECTION, IMPROVEMENT and expansion of forest and wildlife resources in the country.

INDUSTRY
A sustainable revolution The industrial sector is crucial to India’s economic development, but it also accounts for the largest adverse impact on climate change. To counteract these negative effects whilst still contributing to the country’s growth, the Indian industry is implementing essential adaptation measures to develop climate resilience.

IntendedNationallyDetermined Contribution India’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution centres around India’s policies and programmes on promotion of clean energy, especially renewable energy, enhancement of energy efficiency, development of less carbon intensive and resilient urban centres, promotion of waste to wealth, safe, smart and sustainable green transportation network, abatement of pollution and India’s efforts to enhance carbon sink through creation of forest and tree cover. It also captures citizens and private sector contribution to combating climate change.

Coastline Projects The projects directly benefit over 1.7 million people, particularly women, in the vulnerable coastline areas of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, with another 10 million indirectly benefitting from improved shoreline protection. The projects encompass restoration and conservation of over 15,000 hectares of mangroves, coral reefs, seagrasses and saltmarshes.
