BANTEAY MEANCHEY Banteay Meanchey is in northwestern Cambodia. The province has important rail infrastructure, 360 km of rail road connecting to Phnom Penh and shares an international border with Thailand. These border crossings with Thailand provide economic opportunities with high volumes of import and export activities. The total area of the province is 6,679 km2, much of which provides land for agriculture and mining. Rice production amongst other crops in the province has been increasing for the export markets and subsequently the provincial government has developed the irrigation systems. In addition to agriculture, there are also numerous rich mining deposits including iron ore and marble that are being developed. These industries, as well as the international borders, create the setting for Banteay Meanchey to be a hub for business, trade and tourism between Cambodia and Thailand.
