Lets start with Energy and Emissions. As we all know, a vast amount of precious energy & resources are required in the production of Garments. Being a State of the Art Production Facility that produces garments for World Renowned Retail brands; we have to use our resources wisely and tick all boxes related to Optimal Environmental, Social and Ethical processes. FAQ’s about the Green Range by Uneek. Question 3: How Many Recycled Bottles are used in each style in the Green Range? In general, it is not straightforward to answer this question as the exact number would vary from style to style and is dependent on a number of factors such as the percentage composition of the Recycled Polyester in the final fabric, the garment type, the fabric knit structure (Pique, Fleece, Single Jersey) , the fabric weight & garment size etc. However, a reasonably fair benchmark for each style in our Green Range would be as below: GR11 Eco Polo Shirt: Around 7 Plastic Bottles GR21 Eco Sweatshirt: Around 12 Plastic Bottles GR51 Eco Hoodie: Around 15 Plastic Bottles GR31 Eco T Shirt: None. The T Shirt is made of 75% Organic Cotton, 25% Recycled Cotton
=7 = 12 = 15 None.
(No Recycled Polyester Content in T Shirt)
FAQ’s about the Green Range by Uneek. Question 4: What is Recycled Polyester and what are the main benefits? Recycled polyester, often called rPet, is made from recycled plastic bottles. There are a number of benefits. It is a great way to divert plastic from our landfills. The production of recycled polyester requires far fewer resources such as Energy and Water, than that of new virgin Polyester fibers and generates fewer CO2 emissions and Waste. The Recycled Polyester yarn that we use in the Green Range is a DTY Yarn (Drawn Textured Yarn) made from 100% Post Consumer Recycled Plastic Bottles. In general, there are two types of standards used for Recycled Fibers: GRS Standard (Global Recycled Standard) and RCS. (Recycled Claim Standard). GRS is a better/higher standard compared to RCS as the certification process for GRS involves additional criteria for social and environmental processing requirements and chemical restrictions. (Here is a link with a bit more information about GRS: https://textileexchange.org/recycled-claim-global-recycled-standard/) Question 5: What is Organic Cotton and what are the main benefits? Organic cotton is a more sustainable solution compared to standard cotton. It is grown without pesticides from seeds that have not been genetically modified. Organic farming practices avoid using harmful chemicals while aiming for environmental sustainability and the use of fewer resources. Chemical-free agricultural land stays fertile much longer than land hampered by the constant use of pesticides, so organic cotton farmers generally have a longer cotton commodity lifespan than otherwise. Question 6: What is Recycled Cotton and what are the main benefits? Recycled Cotton is generally made from pre-consumer and/or post-consumer cotton waste. Pre-Consumer Waste is essentially any excess material arising from the production of yarn and fabrics. (So for example: Unused/Excess Cotton Fabric in assorted colors and fabric weights, Unused/Excess cotton yarn in assorted colors and thickness). Post-Consumer Waste comes from discarded textile products.(So for example: Garments which are produced in excess or rejected due to stitching faults). We use Pre-Consumer Waste for the Recycled Cotton we use in our Green Range. Apart from being a more environmentally friendly option, there are several benefits of using Recycled Cotton, including a reduction in wastage, the use of less water and energy in production and lower CO2 emissions.
