Set for its 25th year of competition, The Hayt has grown into one of the premier events in collegiate golf. Considered by many the first collegiate major of the season, the event traditionally features a field loaded with some of the nation's top programs. Formerly known as the Queen's Harbor Intercollegiate before being named the MercedesBenz Collegiate Championship, the tournament's prestige grew and grew as the years went along. Finally in 2007, the event became known as the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational (The Hayt) in recognition of the support provided to the tournament by longtime UNF golf enthusiast and local Jacksonville businessman, John Hayt. "Honoring Mr. Hayt by renaming this tournament after him was not only a tribute to what he had done for the event and our program but also recognition for his undoubted continued involvement in the future," UNF coach Scott Schroeder said. Hayt began his relationship with the UNF golf team in 1993 during the team's run to a national title. While living at Queen's Harbor – site of the NAIA national championship tournament that year – Hayt struck up a friendship with former head golf coach John Brooks and has been a valuable member of the UNF athletics family since. A generous contributor to the Hayt Golf Learning Center at UNF, which also bears his name, Hayt has been a longtime member of the Osprey Club – UNF's primary booster organization. He is also a regular attendee at numerous UNF athletic events. In addition to his support of the athletic department, Hayt is equally as proud to be associated with the University and credits UNF's studentathletes for the job they do on the field and in the classroom as well. With a Who's Who of collegiate programs having won the title at The Hayt, participating in the event has become an honor for top-ranked programs across the country. "I have been fortunate to be at this tournament with both Augusta State and Alabama, and this is one of my favorite tournaments," two-time National Champion head coach Jay Seawell of Alabama said. "It means a great deal to me to have a John Hayt Collegiate Invitational trophy because of all that he has done for college golf." With a top-notch course and a great field year-in and year-out, The Hayt continues to prove its worth as a top-calibur collegiate golf event drawing the attention of top teams and college golf fans as well. "We continually get letters from coaches and spectators complimenting the atmosphere for our tournament, Hayt said. “The crowds we draw each year are definitely some of the largest for a college tournament. We have great support from the Sawgrass Country Club membership, and the tournament is played on a course that challenges the golfers, which is something that coaches like." With the support and vision of Hayt, the future of North Florida's golf program and home event look to remain bright for many years to come.

c tt c e e The University of North Florida golf program is one rich in history and championships. Former UNF linkster, Scott Schroeder, is in his 11th season as head coach and continues leading the Ospreys to new and higher levels. With Schroeder at the helm, UNF has captured four Atlantic Sun Championships including three of the last four titles (2012|2013|2015). In addition, UNF has made seven NCAA Regional appearances including each of the last six seasons along with advancing to the NCAA Championship round three times. The Ospreys also have either won or finished runner-up in all but one A-Sun Championship event during his tenure. Schroeder was named interim head coach for his alma mater in January of 2006 and earned the permanent title during the summer of that same year. Under his guidance Osprey golfers have excelled on and off the course, including: Two Ping (Div. I) AllAmericans, three A-Sun Golfers of the Year, a trio of A-Sun Freshman of the Years, 19 all-conference honorees, 14 Atlantic Sun all-tournament finishers, eight all-freshman team selections, one NCAA Regional individual qualifier, a pair of Academic All-ASun honorees and 41 league academic honor roll team members. He has also been recognized as the A-Sun Coach of the Year five times (2008|2010|2012|2013|2015). Schroeder did not have to make a long move in 2006 to his new office at the Hayt Golf and Learning Center on the campus of UNF. He served as director of the center for two and half years prior to his move. Prior to serving as director at the Hayt Center, Schroeder served as an assistant coach under former UNF coach John Brooks during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. Brooks recruited Schroeder to play for UNF, where he was a letterwinner from 1994-98, the team's inaugural season at the NCAA Division I level. As a junior, Schroeder won more than 20 tournaments before capturing his biggest career win as an amateur at the 1998 Oglethorpe Invitational in Savannah, Ga. Schroeder opened the event with a pair of 70s, before closing with a 71. Schroeder earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and management at UNF in 1999 before teaching two years at Southside Middle School in Jacksonville, where he coached multiple sports. A native of Clearwater, Fla., Schroeder spends his time developing players and building relationships with other collegiate coaches, as well as sponsors and local golf courses. He also has oversight of managing the Hayt Golf Center on the UNF campus, which serves as a practice facility and home headquarters for both the men's and women's golf programs. Schroeder has proven that all of the amenities that UNF has adds up to a winning formula, one that will keep the Ospreys competing on a national level on a yearly basis. In his time off the course away from the UNF golf team, Schroeder can usually be found with his wife, Wendy, a former All-America and UNF Hall of Fame tennis player, and their daughter, Kaitlyn, an aspiring golfer.

After eight years at Queen’s Harbor Country Club, the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational moved to Ponte Vedra Beach’s beautiful Sawgrass Country Club in 2000. The Sawgrass Oceanside course (East-West) gained its reputation as the home of the PGA Tour’s Tournament Players Championship (TPC) from 1977-81 when the course, along with the treacherous winds of Sawgrass tested the greatest players of all time. Past Champions of the TPC: 1977 Mark Hayes
1978 Jack Nicklaus
1979 Lanny Wadkins
1980 Lee Trevino
1981 Ray Floyd Sawgrass Country Club is truly extraordinary, offering Members the best from “Ocean to Green and Everything in Between. It is unquestionably one of the finest private country club experiences in all of Florida. t )PMFT PG $IBNQJPOTIJQ (PMG BOE 1SBDUJDF "SFB t 8PSME $MBTT 0DFBOGSPOU #FBDI $MVC - Oceanfront dining venues in a relaxed, elegant setting - Outdoor dining decks, covered Pavilion Sandbar Bistro - 2 Pools, private beach access and convenient parking t )BS 5SV 5FOOJT $PVSUT BOE $PWFSFE 5FOOJT 1BWJMJPO t 4R 'U 'JUOFTT $FOUFS XJUI MBOF IFBUFE MBQ QPPM t :FBS SPVOE SFDSFBUJPOBM BOE TPDJBM BDUJWJUJFT GPS UIF FOUJSF GBNJMZ
