HEAD COACH TIM PARENTON Tim Parenton was named the third UNF head baseball coach in school history in June of 2017. Parenton, who served as an assistant coach at North Florida from 2010-13, returned to the Ospreys following a three-year stint as the manager of the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Short Season-A team affiliate in the New York Penn League for the Tampa Bay Rays. As the manager for the Renegades, Parenton guided the squad to a pair of Division titles in 2014 and 2016, while finishing runner-up in the Penn League last summer. In addition, he also coordinated the Rays’ extended spring training program in Port Charlotte, Florida. During his first tenure at UNF, Parenton helped recruit and develop several standout performers including Alex Bacon, Shane Kennedy and Tyler Moore, who all garnered Freshman All-American honors and ASUN All-Freshman accolades. Bacon also earned the ASUN Freshman of the Year award. The Ospreys also enjoyed other milestones with Parenton on staff, including a 10-5 victory over No. 1-ranked Florida in 2012 and a No. 23 ranking in the College Baseball Daily Mid-Major Top 25 poll. Prior to his first stint with the Ospreys, Parenton spent three seasons as the head coach at Jesuit High School in New Orleans (2007-09), his prep alma mater. He guided the Blue Jays to three consecutive state tournament appearances and a pair of American Legion playoff runs. His coaching ledger with Jesuit featured a runner-up and two quarterfinal finishes in the state tournament while also collecting an American Legion state championship. Parenton took the break from college baseball following a three-year tenure as an assistant coach at the University of Florida from 2004-2006. During his time at UF, the Gators claimed the 2005 SEC title and also advanced to the College World Series, finishing second in the nation. As the club’s hitting coach, he oversaw an offense that finished among the program’s top all-time leaders in total bases, hits, runs, RBIs, walks and home runs. Florida made two NCAA Regional and Super Regional appearances during his time in Gainesville. As the head coach at Samford University from 1998-2003, Parenton was named the 2004 OVC Coach of the Year and also led the Bulldogs to conference tournament appearances in both the OVC (2004) and ASUN (2002). He oversaw a $1 million renovation project at Samford for the baseball stadium and had over a 90 percent graduation rate with 51 academic all-conference honorees during his sevenyear tenure. Before taking over his own program, Parenton also worked two successful seasons at Mississippi State (1996-97), helping lead MSU to a pair of NCAA Regional berths along with a trip to the 1997 College World Series. He began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Old Dominon (1990-95), where he was part of a 188-97 record in five seasons. ODU snared a back-to-back Colonial Athletic Conference crowns in 1994 and 1995 while advancing to NCAA Regional play. He was also part of an ODU runner-up finish in the Sun Belt Conference (1991). Along with his extensive coaching career, Parenton was a two-sport letterwinner in football and baseball at Mississippi State University. He helped the Bulldogs to the 1980 Sun Bowl and 1981 Hall of Fame Bowl as a quarterback while earning a pair of NCAA Regional baseball appearances as an infielder on the diamond. Parenton later spent three years at MSU serving as a graduate assistant football coach and two seasons as assistant director for athletic facilities and game management. A native of New Orleans, Parenton starred at Jesuit High School, where he earned 11 letters in baseball, basketball, football and track. He was chosen the school’s Athlete of the Decade for the 1970s. Parenton earned his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State in 1989 and is married to the former Sheila Cummins of Kosciusko, Mississippi. @northfloridaospreys @OspreySB 88 @unfospreys @OspreyBSB

HEAD COACH MARCIE HIGGS As the second-longest standing head coach in University of North Florida softball’s 28-year history, Marcie (Hickey) Higgs enters her 11th year at the helm of the Ospreys and brings 17 years of experience as a head coach to the 2019 season. She is the all-time wins leader in UNF’s Division I history with 274 victories. Under Higgs’ tutelage, the Ospreys completed their final year in the Division I reclassification process and had at least one player earn postseason honors in each of the last seven years. Since Higgs started at North Florida in 2009 the Ospreys have not had a season with less than 20 wins. During her tenure UNF has turned in seven ASUN All-Academic honorees, 10 ASUN AllFreshman Team honorees and 17 all-conference honorees. Notable Honors: • 2011 ASUN Freshman of the Year • 2017 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year • 2013 ASUN Pitcher of the Year • 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 4 honoree • 2018 ASUN Scholar Athlete of the Year • 3 NFCA All-Region Honorees • 2013 ASUN Coach of the Year • 7 ASUN All-Academic Team honorees Notable Dates: • Feb. 6, 2009: First win as UNF Coach vs. Minnesota (6-5) • Mar. 23, 2009: Topped Florida State (5-3) • Mar. 20, 2010: Beat Ohio State (1-0) • Mar. 19, 2011: Beat Rutgers (9-3) • Mar. 3, 2013: Won Osprey Invitational • Feb. 11, 2012: Beat Ohio State (10-5) • May 4, 2013: Clinched Regular Season ASUN Title • Feb. 8, 2015: Swept Troy Invitational • Feb. 28, 2016: Beat Penn State (2-1) • Feb. 17, 2017: Beat Kansas (8-6) • May 10, 2017: Took down Jacksonville in game one of the ASUN Tournament (6-5) • Feb. 24, 2018: Defeated No. 15 Louisiana, 1-0, on its home field Prior to UNF: Prior to UNF, Higgs was the head coach at the University of Vermont the previous two seasons, leading the Catamounts to a record number of victories in America East Conference play in 2008, as well as nonconference wins against Big East foes Providence and Villanova. No stranger to success, Higgs turned around a Coppin State University program in just five years. In her first two years at Coppin State, Higgs became the program’s all-time wins leader. In 2002, she became the first Coppin State head coach to earn Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors after leading her squad to an 16-15 record in league play, and a third-place finish in the conference’s northern division. Higgs left Coppin with the fourth-highest single-season win total in school history and was the only coach in school history at the time to have posted double-digit wins in conference. Before taking over the head job at Coppin, Higgs served as an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island for two years, helping lead the Rams to an appearance in the 2001 Atlantic 10 Tournament championship game.

North Florida Softball Coaching Staff

Jeff Conrad

Alex Lagesse

Associate Head Coach Fourth Season Jeff Conrad joined the Osprey’s staff in August of 2015. At the University of North Florida, he is responsible for hitting and working with the infielders. The 2017 season was a record breaking year for the Ospreys offense under Conrad’s leadership. New team school records were set in batting average (.295), doubles (82), sacrifice flies (22) and stolen bases (84). The 2017 squad also posted 470 hits, falling just two shy of the 472 collected by the 2008 team. Individually, several Ospreys also claimed spots atop the UNF record books. Sophomore Navia Penrod set new school records posting a .422 batting average and 87 hits. Penrod became the first Osprey to finish the season with over a .400 average during the DI era. Heading into postseason play, her 87 hits were top in NCAA DI. Freshman Kayla McGory led all of NCAA Division I with a programbest nine sac flies which helped her earn a spot on the ASUN AllFreshman team. McGory also became tops at UNF in triples (4) and walks (39) during her rookie campaign. UNF featured one of the top offenses in the Atlantic Sun Conference finishing in the top two in hits, doubles, RBI and batting average. Defensively the Ospreys set a school record turning 27 double plays and led the ASUN. McGory was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year. McGory, Penrod and Dominica Cocuzza were named ASUN First Team All-Conference performers. Penrod also garnered Atlantic Sun All-Tournament honors in addition to NFCA All-Region honors. In 2016, Conrad’s first year guiding the Ospreys offense, UNF finished in the top three of the Atlantic Sun with a .274 team batting average. That batting average was the highest offensive output recorded by a UNF team in the past eight seasons. The Ospreys went on to lead the conference in sacrifice hits and finished in the top two in doubles. Conrad guided a UNF offense that went on to set a school record recording 19 hits in a game versus cross town rival Jacksonville University. Prior to UNF, Conrad served on Renee Luers-Gillispie’s coaching staff at UCF serving as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the 2015 season. With the Knights, he was responsible for working with the hitters, infielders and catchers. In 2015, UCF won the American Athletic Conference regular season and conference tournament titles for the first time in school history. The Knights set a school record for wins in a season at 50 (50-9) in addition to a programbest batting average at .292. UCF advanced to the regional finals before falling to host Florida State and concluded their season with a No. 16 national ranking and ranked fourth in the NCAA in winloss percentage at .847. In addition, the Knights defense finished the year ranked second in the nation in fielding percentage at .979. Senior second baseman Kahley Novak was drafted in the fourth round by the Dallas Charge. Conrad was a member of the coaching staff that was named by the American Athletic Conference as Coaching Staff of the Year. Additionally, they were honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as the Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year. Prior to joining the college coaching ranks, Conrad served as the head coach of the 18-Gold Tampa Mustangs travel team. During his two seasons with the Mustangs, 19 of his players went on to sign college softball scholarships, 18 of which were with Division I programs. The Chicago native played Division I college baseball for Valparaiso University where he earned a bachelor's in communications.

As a four-year starting RHP at Valparaiso (2009-12), Lagesse posted a 55-39 career record with a 2.37 earned-run average and 447 strikeouts. She ranks first in Crusader history in both wins and strikeouts, as well as second in games pitched (130) and fourth in ERA.
