The 2023/24 University of North Florida swimming media guide is designed to aid members of the media covering UNF Women’s Swimming. As for the media, we appreciate your coverage, and if there is anything we can do to assist, please contact the North Florida Athletic Communications office.

Athletic Communications Office

The North Florida Athletics Communications Office is located on the first floor of UNF Arena in Room 1062

Visitors can access the office by entering through the main entrance, going past the double doors next to the main office and then going through the next set of double doors. From there the office is located to the left.

Credential Requests

The North Florida Athletic Communications Office will issue credentials to WORKING press only.

Photographers

Only photographers shooting for accredited media outlets or for North Florida Athletic Communications will be allowed to shoot home events from the stands. No photographers are permitted in the team areas. Flash photography is not

Following a 10-minute “cooling off” period, a post-meet interviews featuring North Florida’s coaches and swimmers will take place on the pool deck of UNF Aquatic Center. The North Florida Athletic Communications staff will poll the media prior to the end of the meet to determine the players who will be made available after the meet. The visiting coach and players will be made available outside the visiting team’s area. Pre-meet interviews are NOT allowed.

Interviews

Most practices are open to the media and public. There may be instances, however, when all or part of a practice session is closed. Please contact the Athletic Communications Office in advance if you plan on attending a practice session so an escort can be made available. All practices are at the UNF Competition Pool Complex and practice times are subject to change. Contact the Athletic Communications office for practice times and to set up any interviews with North Florida players or coaches.

Ian Coffey

Ian Coffey enters his tenth season as the Head Coach of the North Florida swim program and is the second coach in the history of the program.

In his second year at the helm, Coffey earned Coastal Collegiate Sports Association co-Coach of the Year honors after his swimmers put together one of the best performances in program history at the 2016 CCSA Championships. His squad came away with eight school records and compiled 470 points, the second highest total in school history. Throughout the 2015-16 season, his swimmers entered 33 new times into the program’s all-time top-10 list.

Since his arrival, Coffey has nearly doubled the size of his roster and added a tremendous amount of depth at each event. His 2016 recruiting class included 13 newcomers from four different states. The addition of 12 freshman will provide a tremendous amount of room for growth for the North Florida swim program. He is already beginning to see the fruits of his labor as his 2015 recruiting class is responsible for a school record and five entries in the school’s all-time top-10 list.

The foundation was laid in year one of his tenure when the team produced a 118-point improvement (without diving) at the 2014-15 CCSA Championships. Under his guidance, a total of 11 swimmers qualified for evening final sessions in 14 different events. At CCSA Championships, four new times were entered into the school’s all time top-10.

Success for Coffey’s student-athletes has also emerged in the classroom. In two seasons, a total of 21 swimmers have garnered CCSA All-Academic Team honors. In 2016, senior Amy Taylor became the program’s first, four-time honoree.

Coffey came to the Ospreys following a twoyear stint as the head coach for swimming and diving at Radford University. He took over the Highlander program in 2012 after serving as a head coach at both the collegiate and high school levels while also earning experience as a collegiate assistant for several major conference programs.

Prior to his tenure at Radford, Coffey spent four seasons as the head coach at Mansfield University, a Division II program and member of the Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference (PSAC).

produced qualifying times for participation in the PSAC Championships along with some relay teams.

In addition, Coffey helped guide several Villanova swimmers to BIG EAST championships and NCAA qualifying times. With the Wildcats, he not only coached mid-distance, sprint and stroke groups but also was responsible for recruiting national and international level athletes and served as team’s academic coordinator.

A native of Jenkintown, Pa., Coffey graduated in 1999 from La Salle University with a bachelor’s degree in history. He also holds a master’s in physical education from Virginia Tech (2002). His coaching career began as head women’s swim coach at Mount St. Joseph’s Academy, while still an undergrad at La Salle.

Lindsey McKnight

Five-time all-american NCAA Division I swimmer, Lindsey McKnight, joined UNF as assistant swimming coach June 1 of 2022.

McKnight’s career background has sent her up and down the east coast before landing on her next opportunity and first full-time assistant coaching position.

A five-star recruit and top 10 recruit in 2012 per CollegeSwimming.com, McKnight accumulated a staggering 13 state championships and the state record in the 100 breast during high school. A native of Coral Springs, Fla., McKnight attended the highly lauded American Heritage HS before earning a chance to swim at the University of Florida.

At UF she racked up the accolades, including recognition as a five-time allamerican and SEC and NCAA qualifier in all four years of competition. McKnight was an Olympic Trials Qualifier for the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics as well.

While in Gainesville, McKnight also earned 2015 Second Team All-SEC recognition, 2014 SEC Academic Honor Roll laurels and a spot on the 2013 SEC All-Freshmen Team. She ranks in the top ten in UF’s all-time record books in nine events, including the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 IM, 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay and 200 medley relay.

In 2017, McKnight graduated with her bachelor’s of arts in political science while serving as a contracts assistant with SGI Global. From there she moved to work in Boston before landing on a nearly four-year stint with the KACE Company in Alexandria, Va., as an intelligence analyst supporting the Drug Enforcement Agency.
