JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF volleyball looked to stay perfect on the season in five-set matches, but visiting USC Upstate (7-5) managed to take the fifth frame as the Ospreys (6-6) dropped a two-hour and 26 minute battle in the finale of the UNF Sunshine Invitational Saturday, Sept.

NORTH FLORIDA ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS

The North Florida Athletic Communications Office is located on the first floor of UNF Arena in Room 1062. Entering the arena through the front entrance, the office can be accessed by going past the main office, through two sets of double doors and going to your left.

CREDENTIAL REQUESTS

The North Florida Athletic Communications Office will issue credentials to WORKING press only. All passes will be left at the Will Call table in UNF Arena.

VISITING RADIO

All visiting radio crews MUST request credentials through their school’s sports information director. Please make arrangements well in advance so necessary arrangements can be made.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

Only photographers shooting for accredited media outlets or for North Florida Athletic Communications will be allowed to shoot home events from courtside. No photographers are permitted along the team benches, in the team areas or in front of the courtside press row tables. Flash photography is allowed only from the upper level of UNF Arena.

POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS

Following a 10-minute “cooling off” period, a post-match press conference will take place on the court. The North Florida Athletic Communications staff will poll the media prior to the end of the match to determine which players will be made available after the match. The visiting coach and players will be made available outside their locker room. Pre-game interviews are NOT allowed.

INTERVIEWS

Most practices are open to the media and public. However, there may be instances when all or parts of practice are closed. Daily practices typically run 9-12 p.m. at the UNF Fieldhouse, but practice times are subject to change. Contact the Athletic Strategic Communications Office for practice times and to set up any interviews with North Florida players and coaches.

PARKING

Limited parking for the media is located in the parking lot directly behind UNF Arena. Access to the lot is gained by turning beside UNF Arena on the south end access road.

-UNF is coming off a six-match home stand, capped with last weekend’s Sunshine Invite that saw UNF host Alabama A&M, USF and USC Upstate

-The Ospreys were paced by one of the best stretches in Kierstyn McFall’s young career. The middle blocker posted a career-best 18 kills against USF, while hitting .476 with 3.00 kills/set

-Another middle blocker, Maddie Boyd, surpassed 300-career blocks last weekend, becoming just the fourth Osprey in program history to reach that milestone

-UNF volleyball improved to 9-0 in its last three home invitationals with the sweep of last weekend’s home tourney

-It was the first home tournament for UNF since 2021

-After sweeping Texas Southern, UNF got tough in five for consecutive five-set wins against Charlotte and Louisiana

-Kailey McKnight was named ASUN Tournament MVP, while Annie Antar and Amy Burkhardt were named to the all-tourney team

PRESEASON PICKS

UNF made some noise in the preseason conference rankings and all-league team. Mahalia White and Rocio Moro were both league superlative award honorees, with Moro being named ASUN Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the third-straight time, while Mahalia White was named ASUN Preseason Player of the Year. Moro is the three-time reigning ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, the only studentathlete to have earned that honor three times in the history of the league. White was named to the ASUN Second Team a year ago after pacing the league in points/set and kills/set

North Florida brings back significant numbers from last year’s team that finished 9-7 in league play. Graduate student Mahalia White received one of the highest honors in all of collegiate sports this past summer. White joined the nation’s best female student-athletes in Los Angeles for the

She was selected by the CWSA as the Honda Inspiration Cup award winner, an honor given to a female student-athlete in any of the NCAA Divisions that has overcome an extraordinary trial during their respective careers before overcoming and returning to success. White defeated Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and a torn ACL during her collegiate playing career before returning to the court and putting up all-league honors last year

UNF started its season in California, playing an exhibition at San Diego State and three matches in Santa Barbara ... UNF took on Denver, New Mexico State and UCSB ... the Ospreys started the weekend with a 3-1 win against Denver, but dropped matches to NMSU and UCSB ... UNF’s nickname is the Osprey (OS-Pray), a large bird of prey that is also known as the sea hawk, fish eagle, or fish hawk. Ospreys are typically found near water to ensure adequate food supply.
