>> Maddie Millar is coming off being selected as ASUN Freshman of the Week after hitting four threes in the first half of the JU game to go along with game-clinching free throws.

>> She joins the Swann sisters as the three shooters on the team with 25 or more made three-pointers.

>> Kaila Rougier, who recently set a career-high in rebounds with 11 against JU, keeps a balanced game with 11.3 PPG, 5.8 RPG and 4.4 APG since the start of ASUN play.

AN OSPREY WIN AGAINST STETSON WOULD...

- Split season series, 1-1, against the Hatters.

- Break a four-game losing streak and first win against them since Jan. 2, 2021.

- Give UNF back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

UNF will leave the state for the first time in almost three weeks to play ASUN road games against both Austin Peay on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. EST, as well as Lipscomb on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 3 p.m. EST.

DELAND, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball (3-8, 0-1 ASUN) had its stretch of runs in the opening and closing quarter, but fell short in between in a loss against Stetson (7-7, 1-0 ASUN), 70-47, to open up conference play on Monday evening.

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Sunday's ASUN Championship Quarterfinals contest at No. 22 FGCU (27-2) was a game dictated by offensive runs, and in the end it was the Eagles' 14-0 clip in the third quarter that proved to be the difference as North Florida women's basketball (13-17) bowed out of the postseason with a 71-60 loss March 6.

LAST 5 vs. THE EAGLES

SCOUTING REPORT

Stetson: The Hatter come into UNF Arena with a 9-13 overall record and a 3-6 record in ASUN play...since opening the conference slate with their win over the Ospreys, they have only won two other ASUN games with both being at home...their other wins in conference came against Central Arkansas and Bellarmine...they have also lost five of their last six games and have not won on the road since Dec. 11...this is the start of a three-game road stretch for the Hatters...they have four players averaging 10+ PPG, led by Jamiya Turner with 11.4 PPG...since making her debut on Jan. 5, she has scored double-digit points in all but one game, while also bringing down 3 or more rebounds in as many games...the overall points leader on the team is Jaelyn Talley with 240 total points this season, while Khamya McNeal is just behind her with one point less...McNeal is also one of the best threepointer shooters on the team with 26 total made threes with a .347 3PT%.

FGCU: The Eagles have a stellar 20-3 overall record and 8-1 conference record...they enter this matchup with a 7-1 record on the road with their only loss being to Liberty in overtime...they are currently ranked outside of the top 25, but are receiving votes in the coaches poll...the preseason ASUN favorites have won by an average of 31.6 points in each of their eight conference wins...they have played three Power Five teams this season with a win on the road against Kentucky by six points...FGCU is led by Preseason ASUN Player of the Year, Tishara Morehouse, who averages a team-high 16.3 PPG, 1.9 SPG and 30.4 MPG...Morehouse also has the most field goal attempts with 292 total, as no other Eagle has more than 220 attempts... Alyza Winston and Sha Carter also average double figures, while Emma List leads the team in assist (4.6) and blocks (0.6) per game...Sophia Stiles joins Carter with over 100 rebounds on the year for FGCU.

The Ospreys will man an 10-player roster throughout the 2022-23 season, which is the lowest it has been under head coach Darrick Gibbs.

NEWBIES

The Ospreys have plenty of new faces to go around with six transfers and three freshmen bringing their talents to Jacksonville, Fla.

Elysa Wesolek (South Carolina), Brianna Livingston (Monmouth), Selma Eklund (UNC-Wilmington) come directly from D-I programs, while Lyric Swann (CCBC Essex) and Jaelyn Swann (CCBC Essex) are additions from NJCCA institutions. The Swann sisters do have experience playing at the D-I level, as they previously played for UMBC before transferring to CCBC Essex.

UNF brings in three freshmen after only have one on the roster this past season (Kaila Rougier). Maddie Millar, the only in-state product on the team, and Sarah Taub are guards with stellar shooting abilities. Helena Rafnsdottir also joins as a freshman after playing for her club team in Iceland since she was five years old, as well as the Icelandic Women's National Team. Assistant coach Myron Brown and director of operations Adrienne Jackson are also welcomed as a newcomers to the squad. Brown joins the Ospreys' coaching staff after being the head women's basketball coach for Thomas University since 2017. Jackson returns to UNF after playing under Darrick Gibbs from 2016-2020.

TWIN TIES

Lyric and Jaelyn Swann both transfer in from CCBC Essex in Maryland to join the Osprey roster. They are one of 15 sets of twins playing for the same Division I women's basketball team this season.

This is also the second consecutive year that UNF will sport a set of sisters on the squad, as Jazz and Jaida Bond both played for the Ospreys this past year.

INTERNATIONAL FACES

Helena Rafnsdottir (Iceland), Selma Eklund (Sweden) and Brianna Livingston (Canada) all join the Ospreys this season representing three different countries. Rafnsdottir and Eklund both have experience playing for the national teams of their respective countries.

It's the third straight season rostering three or more international players, while it also being the first time since 2014-15 that three or more players come from unique countries outside the United States.

INTERNATIONAL PLACES

UNF will make the trip out the Dublin, Ireland, to compete in the MAACASUN Dublin Challenge, joining Eastern Kentucky as the fellow ASUN member playing against MAAC foes.

They are scheduled to compete against Rider on Friday, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. EST, followed by a matchup against Marist the next day on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 9:30 a.m. EST.

SUNSHINE STATE

UNF plays 17 of their 29 games this season inside the state of Florida, including 13 of the 17 matchups played at UNF Arena.

It will also be the first time since the 2014-2015 season that the Ospreys will open the season with two games inside their home arena.

ROAD RUNNERS

The Ospreys will visit six different states in their travel schedule on the year, along with their pair of games overseas in Dublin, Ireland.

UNF will visit Wisconsin, Ireland and Alabama before Christmas break, and will return with trips to North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas. Out of this year's road slate, the Ospreys will play against four Power Five opponents in Wisconsin, Miami (FL), Auburn and Alabama.

BROERMANN TIME

Emma Broermann leads this team as the unquestioned leader heading into the 2021-22 season. She enters he senior season as the only player on the team with more than one year of experience playing for UNF.

Last season, she was the only player on the team to start all 30 games played. The Okeana, Ohio, native also had the second-best field goal percentage (.602) and the ninth-most blocks (25) in the conference.

Broermann enters her senior season with the Ospreys sitting in the top spot for field goal percentage (.550), as well as the 10th-most blocks (37), in D-I program history.

- Transferred in from Monmouth University in New Jersey where she played 26 matches and made three starts.

- Prior to that, logged 33 games at Cincinnati between 201719.

- Played six years of varsity basketball in Scarborough, Ontario.

- Averaged 25 points per contest in prep hoops during high school.

- Three-time all-region team selection.

- Put up a massive double-double in a win against reigning state champs, Marietta, scoring 20 points to go with 10 rebounds, nine steals and four assists.

- Played for Randy McClure at Campbell HS in Smyrna, Ga.

- Played with the club team, Njardvik, since she was five years old.

- Two-time Subway League Team of the Week selection during the 2021-22 season.

- A highly lauded shooter, Millar was first in 4A for three-point shooting and a top-5 shooter from beyond the arc for three seasons with Bishop Kenny.

- Millar was a three-time district and regional champion, helping BK to three state final fours and a pair of runner-up finishes.

- The guard finished with over 1,000-career points as a threetime All-First Coast selection.

2021-22 | UNF in the ASUN Notes

>> UNF finished fifth in the East division with a 5-11 record in ASUN play. With the additions of jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas in 2021, the conference added divisions for the first time in its history.

>> UNF won their opening game in the ASUN Conference tournament for the fifth consecutive season after defeating Lipscomb on the road. The Ospreys have also advanced to the semifinals in four of the past five years.

>> North Florida had one All-Conference selection in 2021-22 with forward Jazz Bond making the first team. It's the second consecutive season a UNF player has been picked to the first team, as well as the fifth straight season having a player collects AllASUN honors.

>> Along with her third career ASUN All-Conference selection, Bond also won her second straight Defensive Player of the Year award, as she shared the honor with UNA's Skyler Gill in what was the first coaward for defensive player of the year in ASUN history. LAST MEETING WITH STETSON

DELAND, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball (3-8, 0-1 ASUN) had its stretch of runs in the opening and closing quarter, but fell short in between in a loss against Stetson (7-7, 1-0 ASUN), 70-47, to open up conference play on Monday evening.

The Ospreys held tight through the first quarter with the score tied at 11 before Stetson pulled away with two separate scoring runs before and after the halftime break. UNF had a run of their own in the fourth period of play, scoring 14 straight points, but it was too much of a deficit to overcome on the road.

Elysa Wesolek and Kaila Rougier paced the team in scoring with 10 points each, which matches a career-high for Rougier for a third time this season. Helena Rafnsdottir also had an all-around performance with nine points and eight rebounds, which almost doubles her previous career-high in points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

First Half: Kaila Rougier made a statement on the first possession of the game blocking the Stetson shot into the stands...the Ospreys were first to attack in the opening quarter after Elysa Wesolek made a long jumper...Rougier made another key play with a steal that set up a basket for Helena Rafnsdottir...the second half continued well for UNF with Lyric Swann grabbing her first points with a long jumper to cut into the deficit...Wesolek showed resilience on a play in the paint fighting defenders to stay with the play and earn the bucket...Wesolek earned the score on an and-one bucket to make it a seven-point game heading into the break.

Second Half: Helena Rafnsdottir opened the second half for the Ospreys with a corner three to put a stop to a 12-0 run by the Hatters...the Ospreys scored once again courtesy of Wesolek, but did not record another field goal in the third quarter after Stetson close the third on another run that put them up by 25 points...UNF opened the fourth strong with back-to-back layups from Sarah Taub and Emma Broermann...Rougier pulled from the top of the arc to hit the Ospreys' first three-pointer since the start of the third quarter...the Ospreys went on a 14-0 run near the end of the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough in the conference opener in a 70-47 loss on the road to the Hatters.

LAST MEETING WITH FLORIDA GULF COAST

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Sunday's ASUN Championship Quarterfinals contest at No. 22 FGCU (27-2) was a game dictated by offensive runs, and in the end it was the Eagles' 14-0 clip in the third quarter that proved to be the difference as North Florida women's basketball (13-17) bowed out of the postseason with a 71-60 loss March 6.

Down 39-34 at the 6:39 mark in the third quarter, Nubia Benedith converted the traditional three-point play and Summah Evans made a layup seconds later, tying the game up. That's when FGCU went on its game-high run, pulling away and staying ahead for the rest of the game.

UNF would not get back within a double-digit deficit the rest of the way, despite playing one of the best scoring teams in the nation very close through the first 25 minutes.

Jaida Bond and Emma Broermann paced the way offensively for the Ospreys. The duo scored 16 points respectively, with Broermann finishing one rebound short of a double-double. Jazz Bond pocketed another 10 points, while blocking three shots.

Another big difference in the game was the turnover margin, as UNF committed 18 to just five from the hosts. FGCU's Kendall Spray and Kierstan Bell combined to score 46 of FGCU's 71 points.

First Quarter: Down 16-5, a 12-0 run over a 2:10 span gave the Ospreys a 17-16 lead in the first quarter … FGCU made a pair of buckets in the paint to lead, 20-17, at the end of the first frame … all three of the game's lead changes occurred in the first quarter.

Second Quarter: Nubia Benedith made the first shot of the quarter, but FGCU rattled off its own 12-0 sequence to take a 32-19 lead … once again, it was a scoring run that turned the momentum … Broermann made a pair of shots and Rhetta Moore added another, cutting the deficit to 32-26 at the half.

Third Quarter: After a slow-scoring second quarter, the two teams began to find the bottom of the cup in the third … UNF hung blow for blow before a 5-0 run tied the game 39-39 with 6:39 to go … over the next three minutes and 16 seconds, FGCU went on a 14-0 run, pulling ahead by 14 and eventually 10 at the end of three.

Fourth Quarter: UNF shot 40 percent from the floor in the fourth and Jaida Bond tallied eight points alone in the frame, but it was too late as FGCU hung on.

Darrick Gibbs enters his eighth season at the helm of the North Florida women’s basketball program after being named the program's second head coach in April of 2015.

Gibbs, a coaching veteran with 18 years of experience in the collegiate ranks, took over the Ospreys after a 10-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Miami.

During his decade at Miami, Gibbs helped guide the Hurricanes to six consecutive postseason appearances including four trips to the NCAA. He was a vital piece of Miami’s recent success with responsibility for player development along with handling scheduling. In addition, his recruiting efforts helped the 'Canes earn three Top 25 classes during his tenure. At UM, Gibbs recruited and mentored several players that have continued their playing careers professionally in the WNBA and overseas.

Gibbs joined the UM coaching ranks prior to the 2005-06 season, and helped lead UM to a 17-13 record and an appearance at the 2006 WNIT in his first season with the Hurricanes. During his time at Miami, the squad captured the ACC Championship in 2011 and reached the WNIT Championship game in 2010. The Hurricanes posted 20 or more victories in five of the last six seasons including a 20-13 record this year highlighted by an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to his arrival at UM, Gibbs served as an assistant coach for two seasons (2003-05) at Charlotte under current Miami head coach Katie Meier. While at Charlotte, Gibbs helped Meier lead the 49ers to two WNIT appearances, including Charlotte's first postseason victory with a 78-71 win over Clemson in the 2004 WNIT. The 49ers put together 39-23 record in those two seasons, including a 22-9 mark in 2004-05 to tie for the third-most single-season wins in Charlotte history.

As one of the 49ers' main recruiting contacts, Gibbs played a major role in putting together their 33rd-ranked 2004 recruiting class during his first season at Charlotte.

Gibbs joined the Charlotte coaching staff in 2003 following a two-year stay at the College of Charleston where he served as an assistant coach from 2001-03. Prior to his stint with the Cougars, Gibbs spent three seasons at Wofford College. As an undergraduate, he served as a student assistant with the Terriers from 1998-00, and remained with the team as an assistant during the 2000-01 season.

Originally from Pawleys Island, S.C., Gibbs received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wofford in 2000.

Gibbs and his wife D'Erica were married in April of 2009 and have two daughters, Daisha and Desiree and a son, Darrick Jr.

Swept North Alabama for the first time in program history which included a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Jazz Bond
