>> Ospreys will be looking for their first victory since Jan. 28 after their win against Jacksonville.

>> They're coming off a close loss to Lipscomb but scored the most points on the road since Jan. 5 against Queens.

>> Will be last home weekend before the final stretch of two roads games next weekend and the regular season finale on Wednesday, Mar. 1, hosting Eastern Kentucky.

>> UNF will commemorate their seniors on Saturday against Kennesaw State before the game at 2 p.m.

>> The four graduates will be Brianna Livingston, Elysa Wesolek, Jaelyn Swann and Emma Broermann.

>> Livingston has been a vital piece of the team as a graduate transfer averaging 7.0 PPG in her 13 appearances this season.

>> Wesolek was a crucial part of the big home wins against Liberty and Jacksonville combining for 21 points in those home victories.

>> J. Swann is another transfer that made a big impact on this year's squad with five double-digit scoring games, including her first career double-double against Trinity Baptist.

>> Emma Broermann is the only senior who played all four years at UNF, as she was also the only one to play and start in all 23 games this season.

>> The Okeana, Ohio, native will leave the Ospreys in the top-10 in D-I program history for total rebounds (463), offensive rebounds (203), blocks (51), and field goals made (278).

>> She will also have the top overall spot holding the best career field goal percentage (.536) in UNF's D-I history.

AN OSPREY WIN AGAINST JACKSONVILLE STATE WOULD...

- Notch first win against the Gamecocks since they joined the ASUN.

- Also expand series lead to 3-1 and first win against them since 2012.

- Snap a four-game losing streak and first win of February.

AN OSPREY WIN AGAINST KENNESAW STATE WOULD...

- Be sixth consecutive season with a win against the Owls.

- Give head coach Darrick Gibbs nine wins in 15 games against KSU.

- Be a senior day victory for the four UNF seniors that will be honored Saturday.

LOOKING AHEAD

UNF will travel for their final road weekend of the regular season with a pair of games slated against Central Arkansas on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m. ET, along with North Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m. ET.

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jazz Bond posted her sixth double-double of the year to go with a five-block night but ASUN West Division-leading Jacksonville State used a big run in the third quarter to hold off the Ospreys, 66-58, Thursday, Feb. 3 at JSU.

KENNESAW, Ga. - Despite a dominant first half, North Florida women's basketball (11-13, 4-8 ASUN) came up short down the stretch in a 63-57 loss to host Kennesaw State (9-13, 5-6 ASUN) Saturday, Feb. 12. Jazz Bond posted a game-high 19 points and Ally Knights led all players with eight assists.

Jacksonville State: The Gamecocks are 13-11 overall through their 2022-23 season, along with a 6-7 record in ASUN play...they hold a stellar 8-4 record at home, but are only 3-7 on the road...played two Power Five teams this year in Georgia and Ole Miss, but lost to both teams...will be coming off a home loss this past weekend to Eastern Kentucky, but won the two games before that against Queens and Bellarmine...Kennedy Gavin leads the team in scoring with a 12.5 PPG average...Shawnta Shaw joins Gavin as the only two players with double digit scoring averages... Gavin also leads in rebounds (7.7 RPG) and field goal percentage (48.0%), while Shaw holds the top spot for assists (2.2 APG) and steals (1.9 SPG)... Kelara Griffin is the only player on the team to play and start in all 24 games.

Kennesaw State: The Owls will enter this weekend at 11-13 overall and 7-6 in conference play...much like JSU, they are 7-3 at home, but struggle on the road with a 4-10 record...KSU played three Power Five teams with Ole Miss, Georgia and Georgia Tech...they broke a four-game losing streak this past weekend with back-to-back wins at home against Eastern Kentucky and Bellarmine...will play Jacksonville on the road Thursday before playing UNF on Saturday...Jah'Che Whitfield averages 14.2 PPG to lead the team in that mark...Amani Johnson is just behind in scoring with double figures as well at 10.3 PPG...Whitfield also leads the team with 5.8 RPG and 1.6 SPG, while Johnson averages 5.0 APG, which is more than double the next best player on the team...Whitfield and Johnson are the only two to start all 24 games...Johnson averages the most minutes as well with 36.8 MPG and Whitfield close behind at 32.5 MPG.

The Ospreys will man an 10-player roster throughout the 2022-23 season, which is the lowest it has been under head coach Darrick Gibbs.

NEWBIES

The Ospreys have plenty of new faces to go around with six transfers and three freshmen bringing their talents to Jacksonville, Fla.

Elysa Wesolek (South Carolina), Brianna Livingston (Monmouth), Selma Eklund (UNC-Wilmington) come directly from D-I programs, while Lyric Swann (CCBC Essex) and Jaelyn Swann (CCBC Essex) are additions from NJCCA institutions. The Swann sisters do have experience playing at the D-I level, as they previously played for UMBC before transferring to CCBC Essex.

UNF brings in three freshmen after only have one on the roster this past season (Kaila Rougier). Maddie Millar, the only in-state product on the team, and Sarah Taub are guards with stellar shooting abilities. Helena Rafnsdottir also joins as a freshman after playing for her club team in Iceland since she was five years old, as well as the Icelandic Women's National Team.

Assistant coach Myron Brown and director of operations Adrienne Jackson are also welcomed as a newcomers to the squad. Brown joins the Ospreys' coaching staff after being the head women's basketball coach for Thomas University since 2017. Jackson returns to UNF after playing under Darrick Gibbs from 2016-2020.

TWIN TIES

Lyric and Jaelyn Swann both transfer in from CCBC Essex in Maryland to join the Osprey roster. They are one of 15 sets of twins playing for the same Division I women's basketball team this season.

This is also the second consecutive year that UNF will sport a set of sisters on the squad, as Jazz and Jaida Bond both played for the Ospreys this past year.

INTERNATIONAL FACES

Helena Rafnsdottir (Iceland), Selma Eklund (Sweden) and Brianna Livingston (Canada) all join the Ospreys this season representing three different countries. Rafnsdottir and Eklund both have experience playing for the national teams of their respective countries.

It's the third straight season rostering three or more international players, while it also being the first time since 2014-15 that three or more players come from unique countries outside the United States.

INTERNATIONAL PLACES

UNF will make the trip out the Dublin, Ireland, to compete in the MAAC-ASUN Dublin Challenge, joining Eastern Kentucky as the fellow ASUN member playing against MAAC foes.

They are scheduled to compete against Rider on Friday, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. EST, followed by a matchup against Marist the next day on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 9:30 a.m. EST.

SUNSHINE STATE

UNF plays 17 of their 29 games this season inside the state of Florida, including 13 of the 17 matchups played at UNF Arena.

It will also be the first time since the 2014-2015 season that the Ospreys will open the season with two games inside their home arena.

ROAD RUNNERS

The Ospreys will visit six different states in their travel schedule on the year, along with their pair of games overseas in Dublin, Ireland.

UNF will visit Wisconsin, Ireland and Alabama before Christmas break, and will return with trips to North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Out of this year's road slate, the Ospreys will play against four Power Five opponents in Wisconsin, Miami (FL), Auburn and Alabama.

BROERMANN TIME

Emma Broermann leads this team as the unquestioned leader heading into the 2021-22 season. She enters he senior season as the only player on the team with more than one year of experience playing for UNF.

Last season, she was the only player on the team to start all 30 games played. The Okeana, Ohio, native also had the second-best field goal percentage (.602) and the ninth-most blocks (25) in the conference.

Broermann enters her senior season with the Ospreys sitting in the top spot for field goal percentage (.550), as well as the 10th-most blocks (37), in D-I program history.

- Transferred in from Monmouth University in New Jersey where she played 26 matches and made three starts.

- Prior to that, logged 33 games at Cincinnati between 201719.

- Played six years of varsity basketball in Scarborough, Ontario.

- Averaged 25 points per contest in prep hoops during high school.

- Three-time all-region team selection.

- Put up a massive double-double in a win against reigning state champs, Marietta, scoring 20 points to go with 10 rebounds, nine steals and four assists.

- Played for Randy McClure at Campbell HS in Smyrna, Ga.

- Played with the club team, Njardvik, since she was five years old.

- Two-time Subway League Team of the Week selection during the 2021-22 season.

- A highly lauded shooter, Millar was first in 4A for three-point shooting and a top-5 shooter from beyond the arc for three seasons with Bishop Kenny.

- Millar was a three-time district and regional champion, helping BK to three state final fours and a pair of runner-up finishes.

- The guard finished with over 1,000-career points as a threetime All-First Coast selection.

2021-22 | UNF in the ASUN Notes

>> UNF finished fifth in the East division with a 5-11 record in ASUN play. With the additions of jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas in 2021, the conference added divisions for the first time in its history.

>> UNF won their opening game in the ASUN Conference tournament for the fifth consecutive season after defeating Lipscomb on the road. The Ospreys have also advanced to the semifinals in four of the past five years.

>> North Florida had one All-Conference selection in 2021-22 with forward Jazz Bond making the first team. It's the second consecutive season a UNF player has been picked to the first team, as well as the fifth straight season having a player collects AllASUN honors.

>> Along with her third career ASUN All-Conference selection, Bond also won her second straight Defensive Player of the Year award, as she shared the honor with UNA's Skyler Gill in what was the first coaward for defensive player of the year in ASUN history. She sat top three in the league for both rebounds and blocks totals.

LAST MEETING WITH JACKSONVILLE STATE

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jazz Bond posted her sixth double-double of the year to go with a five-block night but ASUN West Division-leading Jacksonville State used a big run in the third quarter to hold off the Ospreys, 66-58, Thursday, Feb. 3 at JSU.

Bond tallied 17 points, 11 boards, five blocks and a steal on 6-for-11 shooting and Emma Broermann scored 13 and reeled in five boards. Despite coming in with a 70.8 percent mark from the line as a team, UNF (10-11, 3-6 ASUN) shot 10-for-17 from the free throw line and just 2-for-16 from deep.

Jacksonville State (16-5, 7-2 ASUN) only shot 60 percent from the line and 30 percent from deep, but a hot stretch in the third quarter and a nine-rebound advantage on the offensive glass helped the hosts to the win.

First Quarter: Emma Broermann was a force to be reckoned with early, scoring eight of UNF's first ten points …the first tie of the game came at 11-11 with just over three minutes to go following a JSU three-pointer, the first such field goal of the game … a quick 5-0 run put JSU up, 13-11 … both teams traded buckets with under a minute to go as the frame finished, 15-15.

Second Quarter: Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm at the start of the quarter … the early minutes saw a flurry of offensive fouls … Jaida Bond dialed up UNF's first three-pointer of the game at the 7:14 mark, giving UNF a 21-17 lead … Jazz Bond netted her first field goal of the game just minutes later … Jazz Bond followed the media timeout with a layup, giving UNF a 25-20 lead, its largest of the game … Jacksonville State took its largest lead of the game on a three-pointer by Imari Martin with 1:42 to go, giving JSU a 28-25 lead … Kaila Rougier broke a four-plus minute scoring drought with a bucket right at the buzzer, cutting the deficit to 27-30 at the break … UNF shot 52 percent from the field in the half, but JSU had nine offensive rebounds to zero for the Ospreys … UNF led for 12 minutes of the first half.

Third Quarter: The Gamecocks opened the half on a 10-0 run to take a 40-27 lead … UNF was able to stem the tied, going on a 11-5 clip while holding Jacksonville State without a field goal for a stretch of over four minutes during the latter half of the frame … the Gamecocks tallied a bucket with three seconds on the clock to take a 47-38 lead into the fourth.

KENNESAW, Ga. - Despite a dominant first half, North Florida women's basketball (11-13, 4-8 ASUN) came up short down the stretch in a 63-57 loss to host Kennesaw State (9-13, 5-6 ASUN) Saturday, Feb. 12. Jazz Bond posted a game-high 19 points and Ally Knights led all players with eight assists.

North Florida held KSU to only 20.7 shooting in the first half while notching a 40.6 clip in the first half to take a 33-19 lead at the break. KSU took its first lead of the game in the fourth frame and held the Ospreys to 23.1 percent shooting in that final session to make the comeback.

Beyond the Box Score

First Quarter: UNF got off to a 4-0 start, but the first five minutes were a defensive struggle as the score remained past the six-minute mark … Rhetta Moore nailed her 50th three-pointer of the year after breaking the press, putting UNF up 12-4 … just minutes later she put UNF up, 15-4, with another three-pointer … Moore finished the frame with six points and five boards as UNF led, 17-4.

Second Quarter: The Ospreys crashed the offensive boards, continued to play strong defense and got contributions from a variety of scorers in the second quarter … Tatiana Thompson hit a three-pointer, giving UNF a 29-16 lead at the 1:52 mark … the Ospreys led by 14 at the break … the Ospreys shot 40.6 percent from the floor, while holding KSU to just 20.7 shooting.

Third Quarter: KSU got within double-digits for the first time since the first quarter, cutting UNF's lead to 42-35 after the media timeout … a 7-0 run allowed the Owls to get within five at the 3:14 mark … Jazz Bond made an important bucket off an offensive rebound, stemming KSU's run … Jaida Bond and Amani Johnson traded three-pointers, getting UNF to up seven after KSU got within four …the Owls outscored UNF 25-14 in the third, cutting UNF's lead to three at the end of three.

Fourth Quarter: KSU got within one right out of the break and eventually tied it 48-48 on a pair of free throws … Jazz Bond responded with a three-pointer but Amani Johnson hit her own, tying the game 51-51 … Jazz went on a 5-0 run to get UNF ahead again … KSU took a 55-53 lead and its first lead of the game at the fourth quarter media timeout … the Owls went on a 6-0 run to take a 61-55 lead with just over two minutes left … Jazz Bond hit a big shot at the 1:15 mark, cutting the deficit to four … the Owls were able to hold UNF to 23.1 percent shooting in the fourth and close out the comeback.

Darrick Gibbs enters his eighth season at the helm of the North Florida women’s basketball program after being named the program's second head coach in April of 2015.

Gibbs, a coaching veteran with 18 years of experience in the collegiate ranks, took over the Ospreys after a 10-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Miami.

During his decade at Miami, Gibbs helped guide the Hurricanes to six consecutive postseason appearances including four trips to the NCAA. He was a vital piece of Miami’s recent success with responsibility for player development along with handling scheduling. In addition, his recruiting efforts helped the 'Canes earn three Top 25 classes during his tenure. At UM, Gibbs recruited and mentored several players that have continued their playing careers professionally in the WNBA and overseas.

Gibbs joined the UM coaching ranks prior to the 2005-06 season, and helped lead UM to a 17-13 record and an appearance at the 2006 WNIT in his first season with the Hurricanes. During his time at Miami, the squad captured the ACC Championship in 2011 and reached the WNIT Championship game in 2010. The Hurricanes posted 20 or more victories in five of the last six seasons including a 20-13 record this year highlighted by an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to his arrival at UM, Gibbs served as an assistant coach for two seasons (2003-05) at Charlotte under current Miami head coach Katie Meier. While at Charlotte, Gibbs helped Meier lead the 49ers to two WNIT appearances, including Charlotte's first postseason victory with a 78-71 win over Clemson in the 2004 WNIT. The 49ers put together 39-23 record in those two seasons, including a 22-9 mark in 2004-05 to tie for the third-most single-season wins in Charlotte history.

As one of the 49ers' main recruiting contacts, Gibbs played a major role in putting together their 33rd-ranked 2004 recruiting class during his first season at Charlotte.

Gibbs joined the Charlotte coaching staff in 2003 following a two-year stay at the College of Charleston where he served as an assistant coach from 2001-03. Prior to his stint with the Cougars, Gibbs spent three seasons at Wofford College. As an undergraduate, he served as a student assistant with the Terriers from 1998-00, and remained with the team as an assistant during the 2000-01 season.

Originally from Pawleys Island, S.C., Gibbs received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wofford in 2000.

Gibbs and his wife D'Erica were married in April of 2009 and have two daughters, Daisha and Desiree and a son, Darrick Jr.
