From the South: Take 95 North to 91 North (at New Haven, Conn.) to 84 East (Exit 29/Charter Oak Bridge). Follow 84 East through Connecticut to the Mass Pike (Route 90). Stay on the Mass Pike for 10 miles before taking the exit for Auburn/Worcester and 290 East. Proceed east on 290 to Exit 26B for 495 North -- stay in the left lanes to exit to 495 North. Continue on 495 North -- it will end and merge with 95 North. Proceed on 95 North into New Hampshire and continue on to the toll booth. SEASON OUTLOOK Led by a veteran group of three seniors and six upperclassmen, the 2011 University of New Hampshire volleyball team is poised to make a run at an America East title and a trip to the NCAAs. Head coach Jill Hirschinger, who enters her 16th season at UNH, added six newcomers to balance an already strong group of returnees. Hirschinger recently moved into the top 10 in NCAA active coaching wins with nearly 650 wins in her storied career. New Hampshire returns an America East All-Conference selection (Amy Keding) as well as an All-Rookie team honoree (Destiny Tolliver), which should provide a solid foundation for this year’s team. Outside Hitters/Right-Side Hitters: Seniors Lauren Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) and Amy Keding (Northbrook, Ill.) give the Wildcats a veteran presence up front. Laquerre, a co-captain, registered a team-high 318 kills including 3.35 kills per set and a team-best 355.5 points. Keding, an America East All-Conference selection, tallied 297 kills, 208 digs, 62 blocks and 339 points in her breakout junior season. Complimenting this senior duo is the sophomore lefty tandem of Destiny Tolliver (Rochester, Mich.) and Morgan Thatcher (Brockton, Mass.). Tolliver, a 2010 America East All-Rookie selection, finished her first year among the team leaders in several categories with 125 kills, 91 digs and 182 points. Tolliver was named America East Rookie of the Week on back-to-back weeks on Sept. 27 & Oct. 4. Thatcher emerged as a viable threat from the right side position down the stretch for New Hampshire. She ranked sixth on the team with 118 kills and 27 blocks, including three contests where she recorded a personal-best 10 kills. Thatcher also registered the highest hitting percentage at .242. Rounding out this group of hitters is junior transfer Desiree Ates (Regina, Saskatchewan). Ates helped her team, Pasco Hernando Community College, to a 36-6 record season and a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship in 2010. Desiree was selected to the 2010 AVCA and NJCAA All-America First Team and the 2010 NJCAA National All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Right-Side Hitter Middle Blockers: Senior Jessy Dick (Lethbridge, Alberta) anchors things in the middle for UNH. Dick played in nine Destiny Tolliver matches and 23 sets as a junior. She registered 15 kills, 13 digs and 22 blocks over the course of the season, including a season-high five kills and four digs on Sept. 3 against Boston College. Joining Dick are a pair of freshmen Delaney Dameron (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Natalie Decker (Warsaw, Ind.). Delaney was selected to the 2009 5A All-State First Team and was named a Senior All-Star in 2010, while Decker was a three-time All-Conference Team selection from 2008-2010. In 2010, Decker racked up 384 kills, 84 blocks, 43 aces, and 148 digs. Setters: Junior co-captain Jansan Falcusan (Plymouth, Mich.) and freshman Taylor Dunklau (Mukowonago, Wis.) will compete for the starting setter job in 2011. Falcusan served as the backup setter for the last two seasons and appeared in four matches and 10 sets during her sophomore year. Dunklau was a 2010 All-State Honorable Mention and a 2010 All-Conference Team selection during her senior season. She was also a member of the AAU/JVA Nationals Team in 2009 and 2010. Defensive Specialists: Junior Jessie Schnepp (East Longmeadow, Mass.) brings experience to the New Hampshire defense. She registered 139 digs, which was the fifth best on the team, including a pair of 12-dig performances to Rutgers and UMBC. During the season, Schnepp also added 20 aces and was one of the team’s top servers. Joining Schnepp on defense are newcomers Katie Sattora (Avon, N.Y.) and Sam Henke (Millersville, Md.). Sattora was a five-time LCAA All-Star and a four-time Section V All-Star. She helped her team reach the sectional semi-finals all four years (2007-10), including a second place finish in the 2007 sectional finals. Henke, who missed all of 2010 with injury, was the team leader in both digs and kills in 2008 and 2009. She was an All-County First Team selection and a 2009 Washington Post All-Metro First Team member.

Junior Defensive Specialist Jessie Schnepp

Schedule: The Wildcats open their 2011 campaign on Friday, Aug. 26 at the West Virginia University Mountaineers Invitational. UNH will play the host Mountaineers as well as Ohio State, Towson and Valparaiso during the opening weekend of competition at WVU.

New Hampshire then travels to Pittsburgh (Sept. 2-3) for the UPitt Invitational with the host Panthers, Miami (OH) and four-time defending national champion Penn State. The Wildcats will travel to Northeastern for a single non-conference match Sept. 6, before playing host to some elite talent at the Holly Young Invitational. New Hampshire opens up play at the Holly Young Invite with Missouri Valley Conference foe Indiana State (Sept. 9 – 7 p.m.) before playing a pair of Nutmeg State foes in Fairfield (Sept. 10 – 12:30 p.m.) and Connecticut (Sept. 10 – 7 p.m.). The Wildcats travel south for a single match at Harvard Sept. 13 followed by a trip to Connecticut for the Yale/Quinnipiac Tournament. UNH will play both hosts at their home gyms and will also face Army over the weekend (Sept. 16-17). The ‘Cats continue non-conference play when they host Bryant University Sept. 20. UNH will open America East conference play Saturday, Sept. 24 when it travels to Hartford (4 p.m.). The Wildcats play five-straight America East games in the month of October before ending their non-conference slate at Holy Cross Oct. Sophomore Right-Side Hitter 26. New Hampshire ends the regular season with four-straight league matches on the road. Morgan Thatcher The Wildcats hope to earn a spot in the four-team America East tournament slated for Nov. 18-20 at the site of the highest seed. Overall, UNH will play nine teams in the top half of the RPI, including two in the top 30 (Penn State – 1, Ohio State – 29). The Wildcats have won three America East Tournament titles (1998, 2002, 2003) and earned three NCAA appearances in school history, all of which have come under Coach Hirschinger.

Jill Hirschinger, a four-time America East Coach of the Year, enters her 16th season as head coach of the University of New Hampshire volleyball program, marking her 33rd season as a head volleyball coach. Hirschinger was named the head coach of the Wildcat volleyball program in the spring of 1996 by former athletic director Judy Ray, in the second season that UNH regained its 12-26-5 .337 varsity status. In her 16 years at UNH, she has become the program’s winningest coach and the 1979• first to surpass the 200-win milestone as she currently has 240 victories. Not to mention she 1980• 12-21-3 .375 has guided the Wildcats to 20-win seasons six times during her tenure in Durham. Hirschinger 1981• 25-16-2 .605 earned her 200th career win at UNH when the team captured a 3-1 win over Southern Method1982• 16-14 .533 ist University in the deciding match of the UNH Tournament on Sept. 15, 2007. Hirschinger has spent the past 33 seasons as a head coach at both the Division I and II lev- 1983• 14-13 .519 els. She has accumulated an impressive 649-461-10 overall record, owning a .584 winning per1984∞ 48-3 .941 centage. Hirschinger’s 649 career-coaching victories rank her 10th on the all-time active NCAA 33-10 .767 wins list. She reached the 600 win plateau in the second-to-last match of the regular season 1985∞ in 2006 with a 3-2 win over America East rival Binghamton on Nov. 11 at Lundholm Gym. She 1986∞ 33-7 .825 also coached a pair of All-American honorable mentions (Aly Coler and Beth Cole) during her 1987∞ 40-9 .816 tenure at UNH. 1988∞ 19-18 .514 Last season Hirschinger coached her Wildcats to a record of 10-17, including five wins in conference. The team closed out the season with an impressive 3-2 road win at UMBC after battling 1989∞ 30-7 .818 back from a 2-1 deficit. In addition the young Wildcat team took one from Connecticut with a score of 3-2. 1990∞ 36-6 .857 Hirschinger won the 2003 America East Coach of the Year after guiding the program to its second-straight championship with a 1991∞ 24-17 .585 23-12 overall record and a 12-2 mark in conference play. UNH faced No. 1- and eventual national champion- Southern California in the team’s third appearance in the NCAA Tournament under Coach Hirschinger. 1992∞ 26-14 .650 In 2002, Hirschinger guided the ’Cats to a 23-11 overall record and the team earned its second America East title in school history, 1993∞ 18-16 .529 along with the second NCAA Tournament berth in UNH history. The Wildcats fell to Big Ten champion Minnesota in four games, 1994∞ 10-25 .286 becoming the first team in America East to win a game in the NCAA Tournament since the NCAA went to a 64-team format. In 1998, Hirschinger led UNH to a 24-11 overall record with a perfect 14-0 mark in America East action. The Wildcats had a banner 1995∞ 13-19 .406 season, defeating conference rival Hofstra for the school’s first-ever America East championship and first appearance in the NCAA 1996¶ 6-26 .188 Tournament against the nationally ranked University of Arkansas. The Wildcats tallied the second-most wins in school history with 1997¶ 23-10 .697 24 (26 in 1980). Hirschinger also earned America East Coach of the Year for the second year in a row, while several players garnered all-conference awards. She also guided the ‘Cats to a school-record 14 consecutive wins in 1998. 1998¶ 24-11 .685 Hirschinger took over the Wildcat program in 1996, when the team was in just its second year at the Division I varsity level since 1999¶ 24-12 .667 1984. She led the young team to a 6-26 overall record, which included victories in four of the Wildcats’ final six matches. 2000¶ 23-11 .676 Hirschinger recorded her 500th career coaching victory Oct. 15, 2000 vs. Drexel and she posted her 100th career victory at UNH on Nov. 18, 2000 vs. Northeastern in the America East semifinal match. 2001¶ 18-9 .667 She was appointed to the 17-member AVCA Board of Directors in May of 2005. Hirschinger also served as Chair for the AVCA 2002¶ 23-11 .676 All-America committees as well as on the regional ranking advisory committee for the NCAA. She served three years as the Senior 2003¶ 23-12 .657 Women’s Administrator in UNH’s Athletic Department from 2001-2004. She currently represents America East on the AVCA Division I Head Coaches Committee. 2004¶ 9-20 .310 Before coming to Durham, Hirschinger spent the previous 12 seasons at Ferris State University, located in Big Rapids, Mich. 2005¶ 7-20 .259 Hirschinger registered 11 winning seasons and ended her stay at Ferris as the winningest coach in Bulldog history with a 330-151 11-16 .407 (.686) overall record. She led FSU to seven Division II postseason playoff appearances and recorded a milestone 400th victory in 2006¶ that span. Hirschinger was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (GLIAC) on four occasions, 2007¶ 19-9 .678 regional Coach of the Year three times, and led the Bulldogs to an NCAA Final Four appearance in 1987 and Elite Eight appearance 2008¶ 7-21 .250 in 1989. She also coached nine All-Americans and two academic All-Americans while coaching the Bulldogs. Hirschinger also owns 2009¶ 13-15 .464 the NCAA record with 46 consecutive wins, while at FSU. In addition to her coaching duties at Ferris State, Hirschinger served as an Assistant Athletic Director and was in charge of NCAA compliance at the school. She was a member of the NCAA Division II national 2010¶ 10-17 .370 volleyball committee, and also served on the All-America and National Golf Committees. Hirschinger was inducted into the FSU TOTALS 649-461-10 .584 Athletic Hall of Fame in the summer of 2008. Prior to her arrival at Ferris State, Hirschinger began her collegiate volleyball coaching career at Drake University in Des Moines, • at Drake University Iowa. During her five-year stint at Drake, she guided the NCAA Division I program to two appearances at the U.S. Volleyball Associ- ∞ at Ferris State University ation’s National Tournament and an Iowa Division I state title. COACHING STAFF Associate Head Coach Stacy Barnett Stacy Barnett enters her seventh season overall at UNH and her fourth season in which she has served as Associate Head Coach. Barnett was promoted to her current position after serving three seasons as the top assistant coach with the Wildcat volleyball program. She returned to her alma mater after a successful playing career (1997-2000) as the starting setter on the school’s first America East title-winning team in 1998 and was also a part of the Wildcat coaching staff that won the 2002 America East Championship. Barnett plays an integral part in the day-to-day operations of the program with a strong work ethic and a competitive edge to help UNH get to the next level. Barnett is primarily responsible for assisting Coach Hirschinger as the team’s recruiting coordinator, coaching the Wildcat setters, developing the ‘Cats offensive systems and working with the players on skill development and technical training. Over the past four seasons, she coached Kate Uitti who was named a three-time America East All-Conference honoree and finished her career second on the all-time assists list at UNH behind only Barnett. Barnett is also active nationally as she serves on the assistant coaches’ committee for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Prior to UNH, Barnett served as the graduate assistant coach at the University of Delaware for two seasons under head coach Bonnie Kenny. In her second year at Delaware, Barnett helped the team to its first appearance at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in school history. Barnett has also coached with the Seacoast Junior Olympic Volleyball Program for seven years (1999-2006) and now sits on the board of directors. While at UNH, Barnett was the starting setter in three of her four years in Durham and she helped guide the team to the school’s first-ever America East championship and NCAA appearance in 1998. During her playing tenure in Durham, the Wildcats appeared in the America East Championship match all four years. Barnett was named to the America East All-Conference Team in 1998, 1999 and 2000. She captained the Wildcats in 1998 and 2000, received the Coaches’ Award in 1997 and was part of the best four-year record in program history. Barnett earned Most Valuable Player at the 2000 annual team awards banquet. Barnett, who graduated from UNH in 2001 with a B.A. degree in Communications, was the first player in school history to post 3,000 assists and the third player in the 1,000-dig club. Barnett completed her Master’s Degree in Education from Delaware with an emphasis in Leadership in the fall of 2006. Her 3,977 career assists still stand as a school record and she also holds the top two single-season assists marks with 1,350 in 2000 and 1,291 in 1999. Barnett, a native of Crystal Lake, Ill., played club volleyball for Sky High and was MVP of the Tampa Bay National Qualifier tournament in 1996 and 1997. Hirschinger about Barnett: “Stacy has made an impact since returning to UNH volleyball. As the recruiting coordinator, we have had great success in our recruiting classes. She has a good eye for not just recruiting good players but good players with heart and attitude. Responsible of the setters she really demands a lot from them, not just as setter, but being masters of ‘how to beat the game.’ There is so much more to setting that Stacy takes to another level.”

Graduate Assistant Adam McLamb Adam McLamb enters his second season at UNH and will serve as the graduate assistant for the 2011 season. McLamb has been coaching volleyball since 2005 in various capacities. McLamb started as coach of the Radford University women’s club volleyball team. He was also instrumental in starting the men’s club team at Radford. Upon graduation from Radford, he continued his coaching as head coach of the 16 Gold Team of the Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club. McLamb’s team finished first at the Monument City Classic and Omaha Invitational in 2007 and placed fourth at the Northeast Qualifier in 2008. McLamb left Coastal Virginia in 2009 when we became head coach of the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association Boys 16 Select team. Under his direction the team placed third at the Can-Am National Qualifier and the Nittany II National Qualifier, receiving a bid from both tournaments. McLamb, a native of Chesapeake, VA., started playing volleyball in eighth grade and was a four-year letterwinner at Great Bridge High School. He earned all state honors as a setter during his senior campaign. McLamb played on a USAV men’s team that competed in the Mid-Atlantic area and most recently helped the UNH men’s volleyball team win the NCVF Division 1AA National Championship in Houston. He enjoys playing beach volleyball, hiking, rowing, running and various other outdoor activities.

SUPPORT STAFF Strength and Conditioning Coach John Ciani John Ciani is entering his 10th year directing the strength and conditioning program for the UNH volleyball program. He received his Bachelorate degree in Psychology from Long Beach State and worked on his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science at the University of North Dakota. Ciani, a native of the San Diego, Calif. area, came to UNH after a stint as Assistant Strength Coach at the University of North Dakota. During his tenure at UND, Coach Ciani worked primarily with the 2001 Division II national championship football team, women’s volleyball and men’s basketball teams. In 2000, Ciani began his career in Strength and Conditioning at Long Beach State as a graduate assistant working with the perennial national power women’s volleyball team, where he trained many All-American and national team-level volleyball players, including Misty May. Erin Walker 10’0” (2001-05) Coach Ciani is very passionate about his commitment to Volleyball Strength and ConditionMorgan Thatcher 10’0” (2010-present) ing. He has taken his wide range of experiences to come up with very distinct volleyball-specific training philosophies. In conjunction with the coaching staff, Coach Ciani develops individualized training programs depending on the athlete’s initial evaluation, experience level, and current athletic ability. Under Ciani’s program, improvement is not based on how much weight is on the bar or how high an athlete can jump, but rather the health of the player and their performance on the court. The volleyball strength and conditioning program created by Ciani utilizes all facets of training, from basic strength training and Olympic Weightlifting to simple conditioning and volleyball-specific conditioning that enhances the athlete’s abilities during competition. No single training style dominates the program; Ciani uses a combination of all training techniques for the total development of the volleyball player. When asked about UNH volleyball, Ciani said, ”UNH volleyball’s commitment to strength and conditioning is second to none because of their high level of intensity, effort, and innate desire to be better than anyone else.” In addition, Ciani said, “Volleyball athletes have to be able to produce, absorb, and distribute an immense amount of power and to do this they have to physically and mentally be at their best.” In response to Ciani’s training program and coaching style, former volleyball player and member of the 1,000-kill club, Emmy Blouin, comments, “Ciani creates an incredible atmosphere that encourages a strong focus on technique and form, but also brings an intensity and enthusiasm that is unrivaled. The team really looks forward to working with him because of his dedication to personalizing each program to the player and his eagerness for our success.”

Sports Medicine The Sports Medicine Department at the University of New Hampshire consists of eight full- and part-time certified and licensed athletic trainers. The department works out of two locations – the Field House and the Whittemore Center. Both athletic training rooms utilize currently available modalities, including muscle stimulators, ultrasound, heat, cryotherapy, and hydrotherapy. The Certified Athletic Trainer provides a myriad of services to the department and the student-athlete. These include, but are not limited to, initial injury assessment and management, emergency injury/illness management, referral to appropriate professionals, interface with associated physicians and others, rehabilitation, counseling, administrative duties, including insurance coordination, supervision of practices and games, development and implementation of emergency plans, as well as student athletic trainer supervision. Jon The athletic training room is considered to be “a designated facility where comprehensive health care services are provided. Dana Comprehensive health care services include practice and game preparation, injury/illness evaluation, first aid and emergency care, follow-up care, rehabilitation and related services.” (National Athletic Trainer’s Association Education Council). The University has two athletic training rooms in use, one at the Whittemore Center Arena, which primarily serves the Wildcat hockey, field hockey and lacrosse teams, and one in the Field House, which is the headquarters of UNH Athletic Training and for the Wildcat volleyball program. All of the athletic training facilities utilize the currently available modalities, including muscle stimulators, ultrasound, heat, cryotherapy and hydrotherapy. SUPPORT STAFF ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT Liz McAllister will be entering her ninth year with UNH Athletics and the Wildcat volleyball team. She is primarily responsible for daily operations, including assisting the coaching staff with recruiting, team travel and fundraising. McAllister is an integral part of the volleyball program and provides a wealth of experience in an administrative capacity. The volleyball team honored McAllister by naming her the 2007 winner of the Karl Van Asselt Assist Award for her service to the program. McAllister came to the UNH Foundation in 2000, working in Athletic Fundraising and went on to spend a year with Presidential Events and Programs. She is originally from Westwood, Mass., and now resides in Alton Bay, N.H. She has a background in nursing and also holds a degree in Paralegal Studies from McIntosh College.

MEDIA & PUBLIC RELATIONS

Eric Peterson, a native of Newburyport, Mass. who graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2010 with a degree in journalism, joined the Media & Public Relations staff in March 2011. Peterson serves as the primary contact for volleyball, women’s basketball, cross country and track & field. Prior to joining the UNH staff, Peterson was an Athletic Communications Assistant at Bryant University in Rhode Island, serving as the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, baseball and men’s and women’s tennis. Before Bryant, Peterson completed a summer internship in the sports information department at Southern Connecticut State University as well as an internship in the sports department at The Eagle Tribune.

Athletic excellence is one-half the formula for success in the collegiate experience for University of New Hampshire athletes.The primary measure of achievement is the student-athlete’s success in the classroom. For the 1998-99 and 19992000 academic years, UNH was awarded the America East Academic Cup for recording the highest GPA in the conference. In both the Fall 2004 and Winter/Spring 2005 semesters, UNH placed the highest number of student-athletes on the America East Honor Roll; the University accomplished the feat again in Fall ‘06 and Fall ‘09. New Hampshire also boasts one of the top graduation rates in the country. UNH is dedicated to enhancing the student-athlete’s ability to achieve academic excellence. Realizing the time commitment the players give to the school, the University administers a comprehensive program of academic support Joanne Maldari Cathy Leach services that is available to Wildcat football players and all other student-athletes. This program includes the monitoring of academic progress and providing tutorial services, as well as interacting with the academic advisors within the various colleges. Serving as Student-Athlete Support Coordinator is Assistant Athletic Director Joanne Maldari, a 1990 graduate of Holy Cross who went on to earn her master’s degree in Athletic Counseling at Springfield College. She was recognized for her outstanding efforts at UNH by receiving the University’s 2001 Academic Advising Award. Before coming to Durham, Maldari served athletic counseling internships at Springfield and Central Connecticut State University. Cathy Leach is entering her eighth year as an assistant in the realm of academic support. Leach served as UNH’s Women’s Sports Information Director (1985-88) and as interim Athletic Director (1989-90 season) before working in admissions from 1990-2001.

STUDENT-ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT

Cathy Coakley enters her fourth year as UNH’s Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development. Coakley spearheads a comprehensive educational program to enhance the personal development and welfare of the University’s student-athletes. Coakley works with several other areas of student-athlete development, including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), first-year student academic mentoring program, community service activities involving UNH student-athletes, and various other programs geared toward student-athletes. In addition, she has established – and will continue to establish – networks and act as a liaison with campus departments and constituencies. Coakley has an extensive career in both athletics and higher education. Most recently, she was an instructor of Sports Marketing, within the Kinesiology Department, at James Madison University and coordinated all practicum and internships required of Sport Management majors. In this position, Coakley taught personal and professional development as well as life skills to the students (including athletes) within the major. While at JMU, she served as Assistant Field Hockey coach from 2005-07 and helped guide the Dukes to the CAA championship and NCAA tournament appearance in 2007. Prior to her tenure at JMU, Coakley worked in collegiate basketball. She started her collegiate coaching career at UNH as an assistant under Cecelia DeMarco from 1977-79. Coakley moved on to become head coach at Fordham University from 1979-84 and served as an assistant under Joy Malchodi at Cathy Northeastern University from 1996-2000. Coakley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Earth Science and her Master of Arts in Education Administration at UNH.

2010 ~ Keding played in 27 matches and 100 sets in her junior season, finishing second on the team with 297 kills and 16 double-digit kill performances. She also ranked third among Wildcats in both digs and blocks, collecting 208 and 62 respectively. On September 24th against Connecticut, Keding recorded a season-high 21 kills, 20 digs, and 22.5 points. Keding received several America East awards over the course of the season as well, including Player of the Week on September 27th, All-Academic Team for her 3.5 GPA in the classroom, and All-Conference Second Team for her volleyball performance... Kedding was named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.5 or better. 2009 ~ Keding played in 13 matches and 32 sets for the Wildcats... Keding was a mainstay in the Wildcat lineup down the stretch when the team caught fire... The team won five of its final six matches of the regular season with Keding playing in six of those matches... She tallied five or more kills on five occasions including a season-high eight kills against Sacramento State on Aug. 29... Keding finished the year with 52 kills, 26 digs, 10 blocks, three assists and one service ace... 2010 ~ Laquerre played in 26 matches and 95 sets during her junior season, recording a team-leading 318 kills. She also ranked fourth on the team in both digs and blocks, registering 177 and 31 respectively. Laquerre had 18 double-digit kill performances, including a season-high 22 kills in a win over Hartford on October 30th. Laquerre also received the America East’s Player of the Week award in early October and the Franklin Taylor Scholarship Award at the end of the year. She will be co-captain during the 2011 season... Laquerre was named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.5 or better. 2009 ~ Laquerre played in 22 matches and 62 sets for the Wildcats as a sophomore... She recorded 13 digs, including an October 16th match against UMBC where she had a season-high 11 digs and three points. Falcusan was named co-captain for the 2011 season... Falcusan was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.0 or better. 2009 ~ Falcusan saw action in 10 matches and 13 sets as a freshman... She finished her first season in Durham with 76 assists including three double-digit performances... 2010 ~ Schnepp saw action in 26 matches and 87 sets during her sophomore season with the Wildcats. She had a total of 139 digs, which was the fifth best on the team, including two season-high games with 12 digs in losses to Rutgers and UMBC. During the season, Schnepp also added five kills, one block, and 20 aces... Schnepp was named to the America East Commissioner’s Cup Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.5 or better. 2009 ~ Schnepp played in nine matches with 17 sets... 2010 ~ Thatcher made 23 match appearances and played in 64 sets in her freshman UNH season. She ranked sixth on the team with 118 kills and 27 blocks, including three contests where she recorded her season-high 10 kills.Thatcher also registered the highest hitting percentage on the team with a season-best .242. Before UNH ~ Thatcher, a 6-1 right-side hitter, played for Head Coach Jack Olson at Brockton High School over the past four years. Thatcher was the 2009 Gatorade Massachusetts Volleyball Player of the Year and was an AVCA/Under Armor All-America First Team. She was also The Enterprise News Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009 and was named to the Boston Globe, Boston Herald and The Enterprise News All-Scholastic teams in 2008 and 2009. Thatcher, a four-year starter, captained the 2009 squad leading the Boxers to the Big 3 Conference title in 2008 and a win at the Bay State Invitational that same season. Morgan, who was a two-time Big 3 All Star, played her club volleyball for the Mass Patriots Volleyball Club.

Tolliver had two matches where she put up double-digit kills, including a 17-kill performance in a win over Dartmouth on September 17th. Tolliver was also selected to the America East All-Rookie Team, as she finished seventh in the conference in blocks and received back-to-back Rookie of the Week awards on September 27th and October 4th. Additionally, she was the recipient of the Ed Jentes Coaches’ Award at the end of the season... Tolliver was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.0 or better. UNH VOLLEYBALL September 8, 1995~ The Wildcats play their first match after returning to varsity status. UNH is defeated by Yale and Fairfield under UNH alum Veronica O’Brien. September 10, 1995~ UNH defeats Marist, 3-2, under O’Brien for the first victory of the year. February, 1996~ Jessica Houle becomes the first student-athlete to sign a National Letter of Intent for UNH Volleyball. March 11, 1996~ Jill Hirschinger accepts the volleyball head coaching position at UNH. May 1, 1996~ Hirschinger begins work at the University. May, 1996~ Judy Ray announces that the women’s volleyball program will be one of UNH’s seven ticketed sports. August, 1996~ Nicole Seaman named captain for the 1996 season. October 15, 1996~ The UNH/Dartmouth match is televised by New Hampshire Public Television (Channel 11). October, 1996~ UNH finishes the season strong, winning four of its last six matches. December 1996~ Leisha Campbell is named MVP and Nicole Seaman receives the Coaches Award for the 1996 season. February 27, 1997~ Karl VanAsselt sends a memo to Coach Hirschinger seeking approval to start “Friends of UNH Volleyball”. Jillian Ross joins the 1,000 Dig Club in the same match. October 15, 2000~ Hirschinger earns her 500th career win in a Wildcat victory over Drexel in Philadelphia, Pa. October 22, 2000~ Pack the Arena Day is born: 1,949 fans attend to watch UNH play Hofstra at Lundholm Gymnasium. UNH breaks the conference single-match attendance record and it’s first time 1,000 plus fans pack the gym for the Wildcats. November 4, 2000~ Jen Walker tallies three blocks in a 3-1 win over Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. and became the first and only Wildcat in the 500 Block Club. November 5, 2000~ Jen Walker recorded nine kills vs. Maine to become the second Wildcat to tally 1,000 kills in Orono, Maine. November 11, 2000~ Kim Mirts-Poen joins the 1,000 Dig Club with 10 digs in 1-3 loss to Hofstra in Hempsted, N.Y. Novemeber 17, 2000~ At the America East awards banquet, Alyson Coler is name America East Rookie of the Year as well as named to the All-Rookie Team. November 18, 2000~ Hirschinger records her 100th win at UNH as the Wildcats defeat Northeastern in the America East Tournament semifinals. November 19, 2000~ Stacy Barnett and Jillian Ross are named to the America East All-Tournament Team. Barnett also tallied seven digs in the loss to Hoftra in the America East Championship game in Hempsted, N.Y. and joins the 1,000 Dig Club. April 2001~ Stacy Barnett is named MVP for the 2000 season, while teammate Erin Ludwig receives the Coaches Award and Kelly Cutillo is awarded the Judy Ray Academic Excellence Award. Lauren Knight and Sasha Scott are named captains for the 2001 season. The three seniors, Stacy Barnett, Jillian Ross, and Jen Walker will graduate in May, 2001 with the winningest careers at UNH. October 8, 2002~ Alyson Coler amasses 38 kills in a 3-2 loss to Northeastern to shatter the single-match record in Boston, Mass. November 9, 2002~ Alyson Coler breaks UNH’s single-season kill record a 3-0 win over Albany in Albany, N.Y. November 16, 2002~ Sasha Scott breaks UNH’s single season record for digs vs. the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. November 22, 2002~ UNH sweeps the three major conference awards at the America East banquet hosted by UNH. Alyson Coler is named Player of the Year, while Sasha Scott is named Defensive Specialist of the Year and Hirschinger is name Coach of the Year. December 5, 2002~ The Wildcats are defeated by the No. 10 nationally ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers, 3-1, at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. UNH is the first America East team to win a game in the NCAA Tournament since the tournament went to single-elimination in 1995. December 11, 2002~ Alyson Coler is named AVCA Northeast Region team and becomes the second Wildcat to garner All-Region honors. April, 2003~ Lauren Knight is named the MVP for the 2002 season, while Lyndsey Stults receives the Judy Ray Academic Excellence Award for the second season. The Coaches Award is named in honor of Ed Jentes, father of former Wildcat Katie Jentes, founder of the Seacoast Junior Olympic Program, and Friend of UNH Volleyball. Rehn is one of three Wildcats to earn 30 plus kills in a single match. November 11, 2006~ Hirschinger records her 600th win in a 3-2 victory against Binghampton at Lundholm Gymnasium. Hirschinger becomes the 15th NCAA active head coach to record 600 wins. November 17, 2006~ Wildcats Kirsten Bates, Lindsay Fogarty, Alyse Lahti and Kate Uitti are named to the America East All-Rookie Team. Mark W. Huddleston became the 19th president of the University of New Hampshire in July 2007, bringing three decades of experience in public and private education as a faculty member, dean, and senior administrator. Huddleston has been a strong advocate for increasing affordability and accessibility in higher education, and has argued that we need to rethink much of what we do to protect our core missions, and to ensure that higher education remains vital and financially sustainable in the 21st century. In February 2010, he presented a 10-year strategic plan for UNH, the result of an intensive collaboration between faculty, students, staff, alumni, and the University’s wider communities. Emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship, the plan is helping to guide the University’s response to a historic state budget cut passed by the 2011 New Hampshire Legislature. “The strategic plan commits us to finding new ways to teach, learn, discover, create, and engage in the 21st century—and positions UNH to become a national leader in the redefinition of American higher education,” Huddleston says. Huddleston was raised in Syracuse, N.Y., and was the first member of his family ever to attend college. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the State University of New York-Buffalo, and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He began his academic career at SUNY-Buffalo in 1977 as an assistant professor of political science. In 1980, he joined the faculty of the University of Delaware, where he served for the next 24 years. There, he chaired the Department of Political Science and International Relations and served as associate provost for international programs. In 2001, he was named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, overseeing 45 academic departments and centers with nearly 900 full-time faculty and staff, and serving in that capacity until he was named president of Ohio Wesleyan University in 2004. An author of numerous books and articles, he has been a consultant for both the U.S. government and international organizations. He also served as an adviser in Bosnia on rebuilding financial and administrative infrastructures after the Dayton accords. Huddleston is chair of the Presidents Council of the America East Conference, an incorporator of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Speedway Children’s Charities. Huddleston and his wife, Emma Bricker, have three children, Andy, Kate, and Giles.

Marty Scarano - Director of Athletics The 2011-12 academic year represents the 12th season Marty Scarano has served as the Director of Athletics at the University of New Hampshire. During his tenure, Scarano has heightened national exposure for UNH athletics with academics, facility renovations and programmatic advancement being top priorities. With a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95 percent among its student-athletes in 2010-11, UNH ranked highest in the America East Conference, the Colonial Athletic Association and second nationally among all public institutions. The field hockey, women’s gymnastics, men’s soccer, women’s ice hockey, women’s skiing, women’s track & field and women’s volleyball teams all posted perfect 100 percent GSRs while the football team notched a 95 percent mark, tied for fifth-best in the nation in its respective sport. Four Wildcat teams were honored by the NCAA for multiyear Academic Progress Rates (APRs) in the top 10 percent of all teams in their respective sports: football, men’s indoor track & field, men’s outdoor track & field and women’s gymnastics, with the football program compiling the best APR among all CAA institutions. UNH finished second in the America East Academic Cup for the third time in the last four years, achieving a 3.13 cumulative grade-point average. The Wildcats had the highest number of honorees on the 2010 America East Fall Academic Honor Roll and the second-highest percentage of student-athletes on the 2010-11 America East Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll. During the 2010-11 campaign, men’s ice hockey, football, the men’s and women’s ski teams and gymnastics, as well as members of men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, all competed in the NCAA postseason. Because of these initiatives and accomplishments, UNH athletics has consistently been ranked among the top of Division I institutions in the battle for the Learfield Sports NACDA Directors’ Cup. This past season, the Wildcats ranked 76th out of more than 370 Division I schools with 242.50 points, which was the best in America East. The Wildcats finished third behind only Connecticut (44) and Boston College (64) in the New England region. Scarano’s many accomplishments have played a key role in UNH being named one of the Top 20 Athletic Departments in the Country in U.S. News and World Report college athletics rankings in March 2002. UNH’s graduation rate for athletes has maintained levels at or exceeding 90 percent, which puts it among the nation’s best in Division I. Scarano has focused on moving UNH athletics into the collegiate national arena. To accomplish that goal, the University has taken on the task of hosting major NCAA championships. The Wildcat athletic department has played host to highly successful NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Northeast Regionals at the Verizon Wireless Arena (Manchester, N.H.) in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2011. UNH has had the opportunity to host two NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Frozen Fours in the Whittemore Center in 2002 and 2005. In addition, UNH successfully hosted the 2007 NCAA Skiing Championships in Washington Valley as well as the 2005 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Northeast Regional at the Whittemore Center Arena. The men’s hockey team, which extended the second-longest active streak of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances to 10 during the ’10-11 campaign, has claimed five Hockey East regular-season titles and participated in back-to-back Frozen Fours (2002-03) during the Scarano era. UNH football has qualified for the NCAA FCS postseason for a nation-leading seven straight seasons and has advanced to the quarterfinals six times in that span. The Wildcat women’s hockey team won the Hockey East Tournament Championship four straight seasons from 2006-09, which also included Frozen Four appearances in 2006 and 2008. The women’s gymnastics team won its first-ever EAGL title in 2003, when the event was hosted at the Whitt, and has reached the NCAA Regionals 10 times in Scarano’s 11 years at the helm. The volleyball team won an America East crown in 2002 and 2003 and went on to the NCAA tournament in those same seasons. The field hockey team qualified for the NCAAs in 2000, while women’s lacrosse made the NCAA tournament in 2004 and 2008. Additionally, 24 coaches have won 61 Coach of the Year awards during Scarano’s tenure. There have been over $9 million in capitol improvements since Scarano’s hiring in the summer of 2000. Most recently, as part of a $650,000 renovation project in the summer of 2011, the field turf at Bremner Field was replaced with a new state-of-the-art surface used by many varsity teams and for student recreational activities. In the fall of 2008, the Paul Sweet Oval renovation was completed to include new surfaces, lighting, painting, infrastructure upgrades and the replacement of windows that existed in the original architecture. The total cost of the project exceeded $500,000. In the summer of 2007, the Cowell Stadium grass field was replaced with a $1 million Field Turf synthetic surface. Additionally in 2007, a complete renovation of Lundholm Gymnasium was undertaken. The $600,000 renovation included a new state-of-the-art bleacher system, new scoreboards, competition baskets and other aesthetic enhancements. In 2007, Scarano was named the All-American Football Foundation Athletic Director of the Year for FCS football in the Northeast region. Scarano was also awarded the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) AD of the Year for the FCS. Scarano also been an active member in the leadership of UNH’s three major conferences and was the chair of the executive committees for Atlantic 10 football, Hockey East and America East from 2003 to 2007. He also served as chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and is currently on the America East Executive Council. Scarano held the position of Athletics Director at Colorado College from July 1996 through June 2000. During his tenure, Colorado College was ranked among the top 20 Division III programs in the Sears Cup national standings and produced several All-Americans, all-academic award winners and NCAA post-graduate scholarship recipients. Prior to his stay in Colorado Springs, Scarano worked for 13 years at Colgate University, where he served as assistant director of athletics, director of physical education, associate director, and senior associate director. Scarano, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., is a 1978 graduate of Penn State University, where he started his athletic career as assistant ticket manager and the athletics events manager from 1980-83. Scarano holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental History from Colgate. He and his wife, Cydney, have three children, with daughter, Lynden, and son, Kyle, currently enrolled at UNH, while daughter, Corey, is a junior at Oyster River High School.

History One of the most prestigious institutions in the Northeast, the University of New Hampshire has long been recognized as a leader in education and research. Founded in 1866 as the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts, New Hampshire was among the early state institutions of higher education whose formation was made possible by federal government land grants. The grants were provided to establish colleges to serve the sons and daughters of farming and laboring families. Campus First situated in Hanover, N.H., in connection with Dartmouth College, New Hampshire College moved to Durham in 1893 after Benjamin Thompson, a prosperous farmer, bequeathed land and money to further the development of the college. In 1923, the state legislature granted it a new charter as the University of New Hampshire.
