POSITION-BY-POSITION ANALYSIS

QUARTERBACKS For the third year in a row, the Wildcats have two very experienced quarterbacks on their roster, junior incumbent Sean Goldrich (West Haven, Conn.) and senior Andy Vailas (Bedford, N.H.). The duo will share snaps for Team Wild in Saturday’s Blue-White Game. In 14 games (nine starts) last season, Goldrich threw for 2,076 yards on 265-for-444 (.598) passing, with 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He passed for a career-high 291 yards and three touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 41-27 victory at Maine on Dec. 7 in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. Vailas, who saw action in nine games (six starts), completed 130 of 218 passes (.596) for 1,397 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He torched James Madison for 28 completions on 49 attempts for a career-best 397 yards and a pair of TDs in a 33-17 victory Nov. 9 at Cowell Stadium. Adam Riese (Hamilton, N.J.), Chris McCormick (Winooski, Vt.), and Brad Wilson (Costa Mesa, Calif.) will also share snaps for Team Cats. RUNNING BACKS A veteran backfield will be on display Saturday. Nico Steriti (Toms River, N.J.) totaled 1,028 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 2013, including two scores each against Colgate and URI. He also ran for a season-high 150 yards against the Rams. The rising senior ranks eighth all-time in UNH history with 2,319 career rushing yards. Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) rushed for 385 yards and four touchdowns in his redshirt freshman season. In the first round of the NCAAs, he ran for 84 yards and a touchdown against Lafayette. Crossan possesses breakaway speed that permitted him to total three rushes of 50-plus yards last season and a 93-yard kickoff return for a TD at Albany. Jimmy Owens (West Deptford, N.J.) averaged 5.4 yards per carry by gaining 156 yards on 29 rushes. Jim Earley (Hopkinton, N.H.), and Donald Goodrich (York, Maine) will also be looking to make an impact Saturday. OUT: Cody Rothwell (Merrimack, Mass.) WIDE RECEIVERS Expect Jared Allison (Cliffwood, N.J.) to be a key receiver to watch this weekend. Allison totaled 200 yards and one score on 20 catches in 2013. Against Villanova, he broke out with six catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. Mike DeTroia (Barnegat, N.J.) caught seven passes for a total of 50 yards last season, including four catches for 26 yards versus William & Mary. Other wide receivers to watch include Mike Kelly (Merrimack, N.H.), Kyon Taylor (Springfield, Va.), Brian Ferreira (Mansfield, Mass.), Anthony Pante (Manalapan, N.J.), Mark Accino (Hyde Park, Mass.), Max Avin (Coral Springs, Fla.), Chris Redding (Bennington, Vt.), Brian Henry (Newfields, N.H.), and Aaron Lewis-Cenales (Odenton, Md.). OUT: Jimmy Giansante (Jefferson Hills, Pa.), R.J. Harris (Odenton, Md.) TIGHT ENDS Harold Spears (Perkasie, Pa.) was the primary option at tight end for the Wildcats in the fall, and the BlueWhite Game should be more of the same. He totaled 478 yards last season while hauling in four touchdowns. Two of those scores came in a five-reception performance versus Colgate. Spears also recorded a 106-yard effort with one touchdown against Towson. Ekene Nwokoye (Hanover, N.H.) will get a long look Saturday after appearing in three games a year ago. OUT: Jordan Powell (Forked River, N.J.) OFFENSIVE LINE Rob Bowman (Cheshire, Conn.), who was named a co-captain earlier this week, has transitioned to left tackle after 27 straight starts at right tackle. He headlines an offensive line that has a number of players on the mend this spring, which opens up potential spots on the depth chart for younger players. Alexander Morrill (Lebanon, N.H.) is the other healthy returning starter (left guard). Other linemen expecting to see time up front Saturday are George Kallas (Beverly, Mass.), Mike Zaloga (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Tim Johnson (Oakdale, Pa.), Curtis Nealer (Pitman, N.J.), Jake Kennedy (Amherst, N.H.), Alex

Blane (North Andover, Mass.), Austin Heter (McKees Rocks, Pa.), and Andrew Lauderdale (Concord, N.H.). OUT: Mike Coccia (Bethlehem, Pa.), Zach Hundertmark (West Windsor, N.J.), Will McInerny (Bedford, N.H.), Tad McNeely (Whitehall, Pa.) DEFENSIVE LINE Cody Muller (Telford, Pa.), who received a medical hardship waiver for a sixth year in 2014, will lead the defensive end rotation as a co-captain after totaling 54 tackles, including 10 for loss and 6.5 sacks last season. Brian Ciccone (Manchester, Mass.) has taken major strides during spring camp in hopes of building on a ’13 campaign that saw him collect 25 tackles. Robbie Zauck (Ocean City, N.J.) is fully recovered from an injury that sidelined him for all of last season. Dab Ukwuani (Gaithersburg, Md.) will be relied upon to take on added reps, while younger ends Riley Pritchett (Berwyn, Pa.), Harry Theodhosi (Londonderry, N.H.), Mike Lynch (Nashua, N.H.) and Mike Boryeskne (Sparta, N.J.) will also get a chance to make an impact. Among defensive tackles, senior Matt Kaplan (Franklin, N.H.) returns after registering 36 tackles (6.5 sacks) last season. Veteran DTs Jullian Turner (East Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Rashid Armand (Brooklyn, N.Y.) combined for 52 stops last season, making the middle of the line a strong suit. Ryan Welch (Dunstable, Mass.) and Rick Holt (Portsmouth, N.H.) look to fortify the position. OUT: Danny Riley (Danielsville, Pa.), Cam Shorey (Calais, Maine) LINEBACKERS The top two returning tacklers from a year ago return at the linebacker position. Akil Anderson (Morristown, N.J.) led the Wildcats in total tackles (124) while recording 13.5 for a loss, 5.5 sacks and six pass breakups. Shane McNeely (Whitehall, Pa.) ranked second on the team in tackles (120) including 14 for a loss and six sacks; he tacked on two interceptions. DeVaughn Chollette (Scranton, Pa.), the third key member of the LB rotation last season, ranked seventh on the team in total tackles (63) in his first collegiate campaign. Ryan Farrell (Westwood, Mass.) and Kevin McNally (Cornwall, N.Y.) should bolster the position with another camp under their belts, while Antonio Natale (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Jesse Arsenault (Berlin, N.H.) will each look to make a positive impression Saturday. OUT: Odaine Franklyn (White Plains, N.Y.) CORNERBACKS Lamar Edmonds (Worcester, Mass.) could headline the cornerbacks on display Saturday. Edmonds started four games and saw action in all 15 weeks for the ‘Cats; he posted 38 tackles, 25 solo, with one interception and five pass breakups. Dougie Moss (Huntsville, Ala.) notched 16 tackles and should take another step in his development heading into his junior season. Geno Miller (Fort Washington, Md.), Patrick Mensah (New City, N.Y.), Kalil Bailey (Lancaster, Pa.) and Horace Chalstrom (Annapolis, Md.) also figure to see time in the defensive backfield. OUT: Marquis Carr (Naples, Fla.), Casey DeAndrade (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Steven Thames (Fort Washington, Md.) SAFETIES Rising senior Nick Cefalo (Basking Ridge, N.J.) ranked sixth on the team in tackles (65) and third in pass breakups (nine) last season. He also recorded one interception and two fumble recoveries. Among all returning safeties, Hayden Knudson (Alexandria, Va.) topped the charts with 68 tackles while recording one interception, one forced fumble and six pass breakups. Keith Parkinson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./18 tackles, two INTs), Tre Williams (Syracuse, N.Y./24 tackles) and Daniel Rowe (Orange, N.J./18 tackles) supply much-needed reinforcement at the position. Other players to watch include Eric Burgos (Danvers, Mass.) and Nick Marino (Hudson, N.H.). OUT: Tim Pike (Bedford, Mass.) SPECIAL TEAMS While the Blue-White Game does not include punting, the field-goal kicking battle should intensify following the graduation of four-year starter Mike MacArthur. Christian Breda (Needham, Mass.), Max Pedinoff (Newtown, Pa.) and Joe Ghiloni (Warwick, N.Y.) will all receive the opportunity to make a good impression on the coaching staff, and incumbent punter Brad Prasky (Groton, Mass.) may also see action at kicker.
