Gail Goodspeed, now in her 33rd season as the UNH head coach, has helped create one of the strongest programs in New England. The Wildcats have a tradition of sustained success as a top-tier team in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) and a perennial competitor in the NCAA Regional Championship while maintaining rigorous academic standards among the highest in the nation. The 2011 season saw the Wildcats advance to the AIAW/ NCAA postseason for a remarkable 31st time in Goodspeed’s 32-year tenure. UNH reached the brink of capturing its second EAGL Championship before coming away with a runner-up finish (195.175 points) for its top result since 2003. In the process, Goodspeed recorded her 500th career coaching victory at the University, propelling the ‘Cats to the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Norman Regional at the University of Oklahoma. After starting the year as the No. 32 team in the nation, the Wildcats exceeded expectations by concluding the campaign ranked 30th. In 2011, UNH was one of only two gymnastics programs in New England (Yale) and 17 nationally to receive an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate Recognition Award for demonstrating a commitment to academic progress and retention of studentathletes. Further, UNH was the 17th-ranked program in the country and No. 2 in New England (Brown) with a cumulative 3.4567 GPA. Nine of Goodspeed’s gymnasts were named NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans and 15 were tabbed to the EAGL All-Academic Team. Five members of the 2011 UNH women’s gymnastics team garnered All-EAGL honors, with three Wildcats earning places on the First Team in their respective events: Ali Carr (vault); Austyn Fobes (floor, all-around) and Danielle Reibold (bars.) Katie Lawrence (beam) and Chelsea Steinberg (vault, beam, floor, all-around) notched Second-Team honors. Goodspeed’s successful track record includes five NCAA Northeast Region Head Coach of the Year awards, most recently in 2008. Previous honors were bestowed in 1991, 1994, 2001 and 2003, when she was also named the EAGL Coach of the Year. Several of Goodspeed’s athletes and teams have been part of UNH history-making performances. In 2006, senior captain Amanda Hall was the Northeast Regional Floor Champion and took third in the all-around. This qualified her for the NCAA National Championship, making her the seventh individual from UNH to earn such high honors. At the Championship, her score of 9.8 on vault narrowly missed qualifying her as an All-American. During the 2005 campaign, Amanda Hall and Mariana Peña Trestini scored a 9.975 on the floor exercise in the regular season, setting the new UNH record. In 2005 postseason action, Vanessa Berrios shared the Northeast Regional Balance Beam title with a score of 9.85, earning her a spot at the NCAA National Championship as the sixth individual to represent UNH. The 2003 Wildcats captured their firstever EAGL Championship with a UNH school-record team total of 196.75. At the same competition, Tara Phillips vaulted perfectly, scoring her first ever 10.0, permanently etching her name among the University’s all-time greats. Goodspeed has guided the Wildcats to four ECAC Championships, appearances in 29 NCAA Regional Championships and two AIAW Regional Championships (prior to NCAA sponsorship) while building a 501-266-2 record. The ‘Cats won the 1994 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship and competed at the NCAA Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah. UNH finished that season as
the 12th-ranked team in the country. In addition to the team qualification to the national championship, individuals have represented UNH at the national championship 11 different times during Goodspeed’s 32 years at the reins. “It has always been our goal to help each studentathlete strive to reach her full potential and accomplish this in a positive atmosphere. When this occurs, the team is successful and it’s fun for everyone,” Goodspeed states. Goodspeed earned a doctorate from the School of Education at Boston University in 1984. She has used this education to enhance the quality of the experience of practicing and competing. Her dissertation involved development and implementation of a comprehensive sport psychology program for female gymnasts. Aspects of the program are incorporated into the training plan at UNH. “We try to focus on those things over which we have control, including our own response to and perception of stressful situations. Training is intense and our team members are dedicated to each other and to the goal of achieving excellence,” Goodspeed says. Much of the strength and success of the UNH gymnastics program lies with the stability and dedication of the coaching staff. Goodspeed is married to associate head coach Ed Datti (31st year/29th full time), and together, with additional assistants and support staff, they have developed one of the most respected programs in the Northeast. The staff has added former Cal gymnast Jess Kelley as a first-year assistant coach. A collegiate competitor from 1970-74 at Springfield College, Goodspeed captained the team her senior year and was a member of two AIAW National Championship teams. She was assistant coach for her alma mater in 197475 when the team placed 4th at the National Championship. Goodspeed was inducted into the Springfield College Hall of Fame in October 2002. She has served as treasurer of the National Coaches Association and served on the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Committee. She was head coach of California State-Northridge for two years and was also a business manager and coach at the Montvale Gymnastics Club. Goodspeed holds a master’s degree from Springfield and earned a doctorate in Sports Psychology from Boston University. She and Ed have two daughters, 22-year-old Samantha and 18-year-old Brianna. Samantha graduated summa cum laude from Keene State College with a degree in Environmental Studies in May 2011. She was a four-year member of the Keene State volleyball team and captain for the last two seasons. Her Owls won the 2010 ECAC Tournament for the first time in school history. Brianna is a freshman at the University of Connecticut, where she is majoring in environmental engineering, while also playing on the Huskies volleyball team. As a senior at Oyster River High School, she was the class valedictorian and was named the 2010 Division II Player of the Year for the second straight season after serving as the star libero and helping the Bobcats claim their first state championship since 1996. Goodspeed is a native of Kohler, Wis.

31 NC AA/AIAW POSTSEASONS ~9 NC AA QUALIFIERS ~ 2003 EAGL CHA MPIONS Ed Datti is in his 31st year with the program, 29th as a full-time coach. The Associate Head Coach is known as one of the top assistants nationally and was the co-recipient of the 2010 EAGL Assistant Coach of the Year. He received the 2008 NCAA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year award, an honor he also garnered in 1994. He was also recognized five times as co-recipient of that award (1991, ’97, 2001, ’03, ‘06). Datti is highly respected by his colleagues for his skills as a strong technical coach and outstanding spotter. UNH head coach Gail Goodspeed states: “Obviously, I am a little biased, but Ed is one of the best spotters in the nation. He can anticipate when a gymnast is in need of assistance and can react faster than seems possible. He also has the unique ability of knowing exactly how much assistance is needed. A great balance is created with his technical expertise and spotting ability to help all of our team members continue to improve and upgrade their skills.” At UNH, Datti is responsible for the majority of the recruiting and continues to bring top gymnasts to the UNH campus. He is the director of a highly successful summer camp and initiated a community class program. Datti also co-teaches a movement and gymnastics exploration class for the kinesiology department with assistant coach Jess Kelley. Datti is the former owner and head coach of the Montvale School of Gymnastics in Woburn, Mass. This was one of the first private gymnastics schools in Massachusetts and he coached several top USGF gymnasts during the 10 years of operating the club. Before his Montvale affiliation, Datti taught at Saxonville Elementary School in Framingham (Mass.) and coached the Framingham South High School girls gymnastics team. A 1971 graduate of Springfield (Mass.) College, Datti was a four-year competitor on the gymnastics squad. In his senior year, he was team captain and earned All-America honors in floor exercise. He is originally from Framingham, Mass.

Assistant Coach
TRADITION ~ PRIDE ~ EXCELLENCE Jess Kelley, a former gymnast at the University of California, Berkeley, joins the Wildcat coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2011-12 after serving two seasons as an assistant at her alma mater. During her two seasons coaching at Cal, Kelley had experience coaching all four events. In 2010-11, her primary responsibilities were on vault and uneven bars, while she focused on beam and floor during the ‘09-10 campaign, including assignments and lineups. She was a primary choreographer for two seasons, and other duties included recruiting, fundraising, video and music editing and meet preparation. The 2006 Rookie of the Year and 2007 Team MVP transitioned into a coaching role during the 2009 campaign after sustaining a season-ending injury following the first meet of the year. She chose to stay with the team and help out as a student assistant for the remainder of what should have been her senior season of competition. After graduating in December 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies, Kelley officially became an assistant coach. Kelley was a two-time West Regional participant during her Cal career, competing in the All-Around at Regionals in both 2007 and 2008. She just missed qualifying for the NCAA National Championships her junior year by .05. She is in the Cal record books for earning a 9.9 on beam in 2007 and a 9.875 on her floor routine during the 2008 season. In ‘06, she hit 36-for-36 on her routines and tallied three first-place finishes in AA. During her ‘07 MVP campaign, Kelley finished first in the AA three times, and in ‘08 she placed 13th in AA at the NCAA West Regional Championship. Previously, Kelley competed with Airborne Gymnastics (1996-2005) in Santa Clara, Calif., where she was a five-time Level 10 Junior Olympic national qualifier. She amassed four Top-10 finishes in the AA at the J.O. National Championships. Kelley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cal. She majored in American Studies with an emphasis in organizations in the American Workplace.

Dan Sedory
Dan Sedory serves as the athletic trainer for the UNH gymnastics team. He is in his 24th season with the gymnastics squad and is an integral member of the coaching staff. Sedory, a Pittsburgh native, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Physical Education (1982) and received his Masters in Athletic Training from the University of Arizona (1984). Sedory is currently a clinical associate professor of athletic training at UNH. Since 1988 he has also served as the curriculum director for athletic training within the University’s department of kinesiology. With Sedory’s extensive work and commitment to enrichment, it has earned the distinction of being a CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Program. In 2006, he was honored for his contributions by receiving the “Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award” from NATA, awarded to role models for future leaders in the athletic training profession. This award came shortly after Sedory was named New Hampshire’s Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer of the Year for 2006. Also on his list of accolades is the NATA Athletic Trainer Service Award, which he received in 2001. Sedory served as an athletic trainer for the United States Olympic Committee Medical Staff at the U.S. Olympic Festival in Los Angeles in 1991 and with the Summer World University Games in 1993. He also served as the host athletic trainer for the World Gold Gymnastics tour appearance in Durham in 1996. The Wildcats are fortunate to have such a knowledgeable and well-respected athletic trainer on their coaching staff. “Dan has more experience as an athletic trainer for women’s gymnastics than anyone,” UNH head coach Gail Goodspeed states. “He knows the sport and the athletes. One of his greatest strengths is his ability to truly listen to our gymnasts and care about them as individuals.”

John Ciani
MEMBERSHIPS & CERTIFICATIONS National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) USA-Weightlifting-Certified Level 1 Coach
John Ciani is in his 10th season working with the UNH gymnastics program. The two basic goals of the strength and conditioning department are injury prevention and performance enhancement. The first goal, injury prevention, revolves around reducing the likelihood of the athlete getting injured during meets or practice by training the athlete as a unit and pinpointing weaknesses in the gymnast that need to be strengthened. The second goal, performance enhancement, centers on making the athlete a better athlete. This is done by educating the athlete on a wide range of training from Olympic-style weight lifting to teaching the athlete how to move more efficiently while running or during an agility drill. The strength and conditioning program plays a vital role in the success of UNH gymnastics. The athletes train virtually year-round in order to perform at their highest level throughout the regular season. The UNH gymnastics strength and conditioning program is a comprehensive training program that involves Olympic-style weightlifting, traditional strength training, plyometrics, agility/quickness training and sport-specific conditioning. Ciani, a native of the San Diego, Calif., area, came to UNH after a stint as assistant strength coach at the University of North Dakota. Ciani received his B.A. degree in Psychology from Long Beach State and attended graduate school at both Long Beach State and North Dakota. John lives in Berwick, Maine, with his wife, Angela, and son, Brennan.

opened its doors the summer of 2003 to UNH student-athletes. The monetary donation by Azumah, a former Pro Bowler with the Chicago Bears of the NFL, allowed the UNH athletic department to overhaul its existing strength and conditioning center. The massive workout facility, which was originally 4,000 square feet, grew to over 6,000 square feet in size during a summer renovation in 2009. The renovated center features 5,000 pounds of Olympic weights, 7,000 pounds of dumbbells, 14 Powerlift platform stations, 12 Hammer strength machines and an additional 15,000 pounds of weights. Other renovations included new offices for the Director and Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning.

Practice Facility
The practice facility, which allows the UNH gymnasts to train and perform at the highest level, is heralded as one of the safest and most efficient training spots in New England. The UNH coaching staff has worked hard to ensure that the 8,500 square foot gymnasium has been well maintained and updated to meet the highest standards. The loose foam and solid foam pits, the two tumble tracks, the overhead spotting rigs, a rod tumbling strip, and all of the most updated gymnastics apparatus and matting make this a facility that continues to attract top-notch athletes. Recently, the coaching staff added an instant view playback system for all four events. This allows immediate feedback and enhances the training for the visual learner. During the Holiday break in December 2010, facility lighting was upgraded to further enhance safety while providing a more energy-efficient system. All the necessary tools are in place for the best collegiate gymnasts in the country to train and continue to learn new skills. Two sites play host for the home gymnastics competitions, Lundholm Gymnasium and the Whittemore Center Arena. The Whittemore Center seats over 6,000 fans for gymnastics, while Lundholm Gymnasium seats approximately 2,500 fans for gymnastics. In 2010, Lundholm Gym was the host site for the EAGL Championship Meet. Previously, the Whittemore Center has been the host site of the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship and the EAGL Championship Meet, as well as the Fox Run Invitational. In 2003, the Whittemore Center entertained an EAGL record-breaking crowd to witness some of the highest-caliber gymnastics action ever seen on the Seacoast. The UNH gymnastics program continues to expand and improve its training and competitive facility with its commitment to excellence. In 1994, one of the first groups to work all four years in the training facility won the ECAC conference championship, placed first in the NCAA Regional Championship and went on to qualify for the NCAA National Championship, ranking 12th in the country. The team has continued its strong tradition of excellence and set a team and conference scoring record in 2003 with a total team score of 196.750 while winning the EAGL Championship.

In an effort to promote parity between regions, the University of Michigan is included in the Northeast Region. Regionals: The top 36 teams based on the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) will be selected for the regional championships. A regional meet - consisting of six teams and five all-around competitors (who are not already on one of the six qualifying teams) and one individual specialist per event (who has a minimum RQS of 9.4) - is conducted in each of the six regions to determine the national championship participants. To obtain the RQS, each team selects its top six team scores with at least three of those scores from away meets, tossing out the highest score and averaging the remaining five. The committee voted that the top 18 teams qualifying for regionals be seeded in the current format. Teams 19-24 will be placed geographically, then teams 25-30 will be placed followed by teams 31-36. This process will help balance the competitive strength of each regional site. Attention also will be given to conference rematches and/or rankings. Nationals: The national championship consists of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors. The top two teams and the top two all-around winners from each regional meet will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, each event winner may advance to the national championship (in that event only) if she is not already part of an advancing team or an all-around qualifier.

2011 Review/2012 Preview
The Wildcat gymnastics team enjoyed a very successful 2011 season, highlighted by a second-place finish at the EAGL Championship, which was the squad’s top performance in eight years. The ‘Cats earned a berth in the NCAA Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, marking the program’s 31st postseason appearance in head coach Gail Goodspeed’s 32 years at the helm. Goodspeed reached a personal milestone when she surpassed 500 career victories at UNH during EAGLs on March 19, 2011, and guided her team to a 17-10 record and a No. 30 national ranking. Along the way the Wildcats boasted five members of the All-EAGL Team. Senior co-captain Chelsea Steinberg was named the team’s MVP for the second straight season. The Ridgewood, N.J., native was voted to the All-EAGL Second Team on vault, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around to complete her fourth straight year as an all-league competitor. Steinberg capped her illustrious career seventh all-time in school history with 1,531.2 points, including a team-leading 520.5 points for the ’11 season and the Wildcats’ top event score 11 times. She led the team on beam, vault and all-around at the NCAA Regionals. Senior co-captain Katie Lawrence secured AllEAGL honors for the first time in her career, as she was tabbed to the Second Team on beam. Katie registered a personal-best and event-high 9.875 beam score in a home victory against Bridgeport and posted a 9.85 on bars for a season-best score against Central Michigan and Brown. Senior Katie Caliendo stepped up late in the year by finishing with at least a share of the team’s high score on floor exercise in the final four meets, culminating with a 9.8 at the NCAAs. She contributed a great Yurchenko full on vaulting, a solid beam routine, and the highest level of tumbling on floor exercise as she opened with a full-in during the last few meets of the season. Three Wildcats were tabbed to the All-EAGL First Team. Sophomore Austyn Fobes was recognized for her efforts on floor exercise and all-around. Twice she hit for a career-high 9.875 on floor, and she recorded a personal best 39.1 all-around tally at 18th-ranked LSU. Austyn led UNH on vault against Bridgeport; on bars against Central Michigan and Brown; on beam in a tri-meet versus Maryland and Air Force and at Penn State. Her floor exercise score was the highest in both the home opener against Rutgers and the home finale against Central Michigan and Brown. Junior Ali Carr received accolades as an AllEAGL First-Team competitor on vault. She achieved a personal best 9.85 on that event in the UNH Invitational and matched that total on Senior Night. Carr also turned in an astounding 9.85 on uneven bars during a quad-meet at Arizona.

Junior Danielle Reibold garnered honors as a FirstTeam competitor on uneven bars for the second straight year. Danie’s average score of 9.773 on bars was the highest among all league gymnasts, and she paced the Wildcats on beam three times: against Rutgers; versus Bridgeport and at the UNH Invitational. The Wildcat gymnasts reinforced their reputation as top performers in the classroom as well as the gym. Fifteen members of the squad were named to the EAGL All-Academic Team, the second-highest total in the league, and nine Wildcats garnered NACGC/W Scholastic AllAmerican honors. For Steinberg and Caliendo, it was the fourth consecutive year of membership in that prestigious group. Lawrence was recognized for the third time, as she was not a member of the UNH team her freshman year. Sophomore Courtney Connors earned the team’s highest GPA, Carr tallied Scholastic All-American honors for the second straight year and Reibold was feted for the third year in a row. First-time honorees were Kate McGeever, Dianna Kurowyckyj and Carly Stote. As a team, the Wildcats amassed the 17th best cumulative GPA in the country and the second-highest among all New England schools. Filled with promise, this ‘Cats gymnastics team will be looking to raise the bar once again in 2012. The 2012 team motto is “Practice with Purpose/ Compete with Passion”. The senior class has stepped into the leadership role with a smooth transition. They are led by Carr, who will serve as a co-captain with Connors, a junior. All four seniors are continuing to train at a high level and are expected to make an impact this season. Carr is training hard to step into an all-around spot, and she can continue to build her accolades in the record books when she competes on beam and floor, as well as her impressive vault (PB-9.85) and bars (PB-9.95). Her 9.95 on bars tied her for the school’s all-time best on this event, and she has the potential to be a standout as an all-around competitor. Reibold is one of the most consistent and dependable performers on bars and beam and hit every bar set and all but one beam routine in 2011. She can always be counted on for a top score on bars (PB-9.85), beam (PB-9.875) and floor (PB-9.75). Tasia Percevecz is training vault, bars and floor and should make the most impact on floor (PB-9.8), where she is working on finishing with a 2/1 back. She is working hard to make the lineup on vaulting and bars as well. McGeever came into her own last season as one of the best in the floor lineup (PB-9.825). Her front tumbling makes her a standout as she opens with a front layout 2/1 full and every pass includes bonus skills. McGeever is also vying for a spot in a very competitive beam lineup. The junior class has talent on all four events. Connors will serve an important role as cocaptain for the 2012 team. Her leadership skills both on and off the floor were recognized by teammates when they elected her last spring. Connors’ strengths
are vaulting, where she has the ability to stick a Yurchenko full (PB-9.825), and floor (PB-9.8), where she can be counted on to entertain with excellent tumbling and a great smile. Fobes should once again be a top all-arounder. She will be slowed at the beginning of the season while recovering from a wrist injury, but look for her to go after her personal bests on all events. – vault (PB-9.85), bars (PB-9.95), beam (PB-9.775), and floor (PB-9.875). She topped the 39 allaround mark three times in 2011, and when she is at her best, she can beat her 39.1 personal all-around high score. Jen Aucoin anchored the bar team last season (PB-9.85) and finished tied for second (9.8) at the EAGL meet with teammates Reibold and Fobes. Aucoin has the ability to compete on beam, floor and vaulting as well. She can make an impact on all four events, with bars and beam as her strengths. Becca Marrama has trained extremely hard to have a shot at the floor lineup and should also challenge for a spot on vaulting. Her combination tumbling is ready on floor, and she is working a front handspring front pike to add depth to the vaulting squad. Unfortunately, Kurowyckyj suffered a knee injury at December’s “Meet the Team” event and will not see action this season. The sophomore class knows the expectations and challenges of a Division I program and all are ready to step up to both. Hannah Barile competed a great vault last season (PB-9.775), a piked Quervo (front handspring - ½ twist to a piked back flip), and needs to learn to “stick” this very difficult vault. Her new floor routine is upbeat and fun with some of the highest tumbling difficulty on the team, opening with a full-in. Jannelle Minichiello provided a strong first-up last year on beam (PB-9.725) and started the new season with a great floor routine at the “Meet the Team.” She opens with a 2/1 Arabian (1/2 turn-double front) and finishes with a 2/1 back tuck. Her smile makes this a fun routine for fans to watch. Expect Jannelle to challenge for a spot in the bar lineup as well. Jillian Hudson trained hard this summer to return to form on every event. Vaulting (PB-9.775) is her best event, followed by floor and bars. She performs a great 2/1 pike, and finishes with a front Rudi (1 ½ twist) on floor and is very close to competing a Tkachev (reverse hecht) on bars. Erin Machado tallied one of the best scores (9.85) on floor exercise when she placed first last

season at the home meet against Bridgeport, but she suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear during warmup at the next home meet. However, Erin is back training all of her skills; expect her to again be a mainstay in the floor lineup and challenge on the other events. Stote rounds out the sophomore class and she could add depth, particularly on bars and floor, as she returns to action. The freshman class exhibits all aspects of the sport with excellent power, execution and grace. The grace and style of Kayla Gray is complemented by the power and quickness of Adrienne Hill. Gray nursed an abdominal strain all fall; however, she will anchor the beam team with one of the best sets in the country. Look for her to move into an all-around spot as the season progresses. Every skill Kayla competes is done with precision and clean execution. Hill has the ability to compete as an all-around with strengths on vault (Yurchenko full) and beam. She is quick and powerful on all four events and should become a solid competitor for this team. Erika Rudiger has impressed the coaching staff with her skill level and work ethic. She is one to watch as her skills are improving every day. Expect to see her in the lineup on vaulting (Yurchenko ½), bars and floor with a chance to make the beam lineup as well. Alie Davis is a three-event threat with bars, beam and floor as her specialties. She has the style, grace and ability to compete on all three. Kelsey Fachini rounds out this class with two events that could be ready for competition: vaulting and bars. She is training a tucked Yurchenko full (9.9 SV) with hopes of escalating to a 10.0 vault in the near future. Her bar routine could entertain with a Geinger and a ½-in ½-out dismount. UNH gymnastics doesn’t shy away from a highly competitive schedule. Coming to UNH this year will be Penn State (ranked 13th) on January 15; Pittsburgh follows a week later on January 21; Brown and Yale provide some New England competition on Feb 4 and EAGL rival West Virginia arrives in Durham on Feb. 25. The UNH Invitational has moved to March 3, with UNH playing host to Maryland, Bridgeport and Brown. Arizona (ranked 19th) will complete the final power-packed home schedule on March 11. The away schedule has the Wildcats opening very early after the holiday break at Rutgers on January 7. Northern Illinois, Penn and N.C. State will host the ‘Cats in January and February. The final regular season competition will feature a West Coast trip to Oregon State (ranked 7th) during the spring break. The EAGL Championships will be held at the University of Pittsburgh on March 24. The possible changing of league affiliation for some of the schools may make this one of the last EAGL Championships to include the majority of founding members. The prestige of this year’s championship may provide for an emotional and tremendously competitive meet. Qualification to the NCAA Regional meet will be a straight formula for the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) counting the top 6 scores, with at least three of those from away meets, dropping the highest score and averaging the remaining five. When the RQS is determined, the top 36 teams will qualify to the NCAA Regional meets with the top 18 seeded into the six sites. Teams 19-36 will be organized into three pods (19-24, 25-30, and 31-36) and placed geographically at one of the six regional sites. Teams 19-24 will be placed geographically, then teams 25-30 will be placed followed by teams 31-36. This process will help balance the competitive strength of each regional site. Attention also will be given to conference rematches and/or rankings. The NCAA National Championship will feature the top two teams from each of the Regional meets, the top two individual all-arounders who are not part of an advancing team and any individual Regional event winners who are not part of a team or an all-around qualifier. The 2012 Championship will be held at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia, from April 20-22. The theme of “Practice with Purpose/Compete with Passion” for 2012 puts emphasis on making every practice count and enjoying every competition. The energy and team enthusiasm is key to success for the 2012 UNH Wildcats.

Wildcats To Watch Vault
Uneven Bars
The 2012 vault squad is a great mix of experienced veterans and powerful newcomers. Nine UNH vault competitors have 10.0 start value vaults. Five returning athletes scored 9.75 or better last season. This event should be strong for the Wildcats.
With the loss of two routines in graduating Katie Lawrence and Chelsea Steinberg, the Wildcat bar squad will be looking for some new routines to fill in the gaps. The returning lineup is solid and has a great corps of athletes to build from. Depth will be an issue, but there is great potential for an outstanding bar lineup again this year.
Austyn Fobes (pictured) has a dynamic and consistent Yurchenko full (round off onto the board, back handspring, back layout full). Once again she will be an anchor for vaulting. SV=10.0
Fobes has proven to be one of the top competitors in the nation on this event (PB of 9.95) and will once again be a dynamic force. She competes a high-flying Tkachev, Pak salto and competed a double layout dismount last season. She is working on adding a full twist to the dismount. She has shown she can do this routine with perfect execution.
Ali Carr returned to the lineup on vault last year and had an immediate impact. This event can be one of Ali’s best, and when she is on, this vault can score with the best. She competes a powerful Yurchenko full and has great execution. SV=10.0
Danielle Reibold swings beautifully with a blind full Geinger overshoot combination. The team’s most reliable competitor, Danielle has the ability to score very high on this event. She is an anchor and can be counted on to give her team a big boost on bars.
Cour tney Connors showed great consistency last year and will once again be counted on for her Yurchenko full. Her vaulting continues to improve each year and she has the ability to stick this vault more often than anyone else in the gym. SV=10.0
Rudiger has speed and power that helps her improve every day. She can be an outstanding uneven bar competitor and should compete a dynamic routine including a Jaeger and a double lay out dismount. This one could be a Wildcat to watch! Hudson can perform a solid 10.0 routine and she is training to add a Tkachev. When she adds this major release she could be one of the team’s better competitors. She is a reliable performer without the new release, but is working hard to enhance this routine with the Tkachev this season. Gray has the potential to be great on this event. She has beautiful lines and swing skills that are flawless. She has been hampered all fall with an injury, but should be able to get ready as the year progresses. She has the ability to make a big difference on this event, and we look forward to seeing her develop into a top bar performer. Hill can swing with power and shows a great deal of promise on this event. She is also working a Tkachev and should be able to add this to an already solid routine. The potential is there and she is working hard to get into the mix.
Hannah Barile is coming off a strong year on this event and is showing improvement on a vault that is already one of the most difficult being performed in collegiate gymnastics. She competes a Quervo (front handspring, half twist back pike salto off). This unique vault has great potential, and she does it with power and style. SV=10.0 Erika Rudiger is a newcomer who has learned a Yurchenko half this fall and can really fly. She is a powerful athlete that has an unmatched work ethic. This could be one of the Wildcats’ best vaults this season. SV=10.0 Adrienne Hill also competes a Yurchenko full and has the ability to break into a very competitive lineup for the ‘Cats. Once she gets consistent this will be a great vault for the team. SV=10.0 Kayla Gray SV=10.0, Tasia Percevecz SV=10.0, Jen Aucoin SV=9.9 and Kelsey Fachini SV=9.9 are all training on vault and should be ready to compete. They each have the potential to contribute on this event.
Wildcat Gymnastics
Carr (pictured) has a Jaeger that soars above the bar and is hoping to add a Tkachev this year to an already exciting bar routine. She has solidified her dismount (double lay out) and has the potential to be one of the team’s highest scoring bar competitors. Ali is always fun to watch on this event. Aucoin returns to this event having scored extremely well for the Wildcats at the end of last year. She swings a dynamic, clean routine that the judges love and she should be a solid competitor again this year. She does a unique free hip circle hop hand change to an immediate straddle back handstand which is loaded with judging bonus points.
Jillian Hudson is showing her power and strength on this event. She has been one of the best all fall on this event and should be a solid contributor. She competes a Yurchenko full and has the control to stick her landings. SV=10.0

Returnees: Jen Aucoin, Hannah Barile, Ali Carr, Courtney Connors, Austyn Fobes, Jillian Hudson, Dianna Kurowyckyj, Erin Machado, Becca Marrama, Kate McGeever, Jannelle Minichiello, Tasia Percevecz, Danielle Reibold, Carly Stote Newcomers: Alie Davis, Kelsey Fachini, Kayla Gray, Adrienne Hill, Erika Rudiger
Alie Davis also has great potential on this event. She performs a very dynamic Pak salto and can do a number of combinations for bonus. She needs to upgrade her dismount and is working towards that goal. She can execute with a clean style and has the ability to score well on this event. Barile rounds out the top 10 on bars and needs to solidify a few elements to be a strong contender for the lineup. Like Aucoin she does a unique combination with a hop change to straddle back handstand which she is attempting to combine with another skill to add connection bonus. Jannelle Minichiello, Dianna Kurowyckyj, Fachini and Percevecz will be ready to step up and compete. Each has the ability to put a solid routine together for the ‘Cats.

Wildcats To Watch Balance Beam This year’s beam lineup will be difficult to decide. The potential on this event is as good as it has ever been, and it should be a great event for the Wildcats. Even though the team graduated three outstanding routine performers from last year, the veterans and newcomers have combined to provide a solid lineup once again. Leadership will come from the youngsters on this event with Kayla Gray and Adrienne Hill showing great promise. Gray is already known as one of the top balance beam performers in the country. Kayla performs the unique combination of front aerial directly connected to backto-back side aerials. She has outstanding credentials on this event and is one of those individuals who is stunning on beam. She has a unique routine and has an artistry and style that will catch everyone’s eye. Reibold has been a steadying force for the ‘Cats on this event and will continue to serve in that role as a senior. She mounts with a difficult front tuck wolf jump and has great rhythm throughout the routine. The team can count on Danie, and she will once again lead the squad on beam. Minichiello (pictured) was placed in the role of being first up on beam last year and proved she can handle the pressure and bring a solid performance. She will once again be counted on to be a factor on this event. She is training a triple flight of back handspring-layoutlayout and also does a front tuck on the beam. She has continued to improve her consistency and has looked great all fall.
Floor Exercise Again two top floor routines have been lost to graduation, but the addition of some very talented freshmen and a couple of the sophomores stepping up should make up for the loss. Once again this event should prove to be a crowd pleaser. High-flying acrobatics and fun choreography are what Wildcat floor exercise is all about. Fobes will be competing for the number one spot all year long. This is another excellent event for Austyn, and she has all the skills and the performance to win the event every time out. She has a variety of potential tumbling passes with the ability to compete a full-in, front 2/1 full-punch front, front layout-front full, Rudi and double pike. Gray will grab your attention on this event, as well, and has one of the prettiest styles we have ever had on the team. Her dance is beautiful, and once she has her tumbling down she will be a collegiate favorite. Kate McGeever proved she is a competitor last season, and she will be bringing a new routine to the floor this year. She has a great look on floor and can front tumble with the best athletes in the college game. Rudiger has been impressive this fall with a double lay out for an opening pass and a high double pike to finish her routine. Power is the operative term used when talking about Erika, and she has plenty of it. This routine can fly! Connors returns this year and will try to upgrade her tumbling to finish her routine with a double tuck. She should open with a double pike and has a Rudi-layout for the middle pass. Her smile and impressive tumbling make this a favorite routine to watch. Percevecz is also trying to upgrade her last pass to a double back and has a newly choreographed routine. She was solid last year and will once again be a factor on this event.
Adrienne Hill is one of the newcomers who shows signs of being one of the best for the ‘Cats on beam. She is a solid performer with great skills and the ability to hit when it counts. Carr has been working hard to add this event and is training a front aerial to back handspring-back layout. She is a stylish beam performer who has the ability to bring a high number for the team. Confidence is the key for Ali and she is gaining that every day.
Barile is one of our sophomores who has stepped up and should be a big contributor on this event. She should be able to compete a full in for a first pass and a double back to finish. This is going to be a great routine for the ‘Cats.
Minichiello is the other sophomore who spent last year recovering from a broken ankle suffered in high school and is ready to Fobes again has the ability to look great on this event. It has been a challenging apparatus for Austyn; however, she is working hard to make it one of her debut an outstanding floor routine. She has the ability to do a double best events. She has the skill level, but needs to be more consistent. Her back Arabian for a first pass and also finish her routine with a double back. handspring two feet layout and side somi are impressive and her dance is clean. Carr and Machado (pictured) have excellent floor routines and could Kurowyckyj is a natural on beam. This is her best event and she has that ability to easily compete this year. Ali has a classic style with explosive tumbling stay on the beam even when things may be slightly off. She has a proven record while Erin has an uncanny awareness and can stick every landing. They here and should be a solid performer with a back handspring-layout, side somi both can score on floor. and roundoff back 1 ½ twist dismount. Hudson and Reibold can be solid on floor. Each has a great deal of Rudiger and Davis are newcomers, but like Gray and Hill, they can make a big experience that can be called upon if needed. impact. They have the skills and style to get the job done and will gain experience Becca Marrama, Davis and Aucoin all have the ability to step in and as the year progresses. perform at a high level. On an event with this much talent it is difficult to Erin Machado, Barile, and Hudson all have a great skill level and will be available crack the lineup, but at any point any of these athletes could see action. for action. They are right in the mix and at any given time could crack the lineup. Aucoin can also perform at a very high level on this event. Her speed and style are a plus, and she has the ability to compete a triple flight of back handspringlayout-layout. She will challenge for a spot in the lineup.

EAGL 2012 EAGL Championship Saturday, March 24, 2 p.m.
At Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House (Pittsburgh, Pa.) What does “EAGL” stand for? Coaches from four different conferences joined together 16 years ago to form the “East Atlantic Gymnastics League” to provide top caliber competition for some strong women’s gymnastics teams. Teams from the America East (UNH), Big East (West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers), Atlantic Coast Conference (North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Maryland) and Colonial Athletic Association (Towson) initiated one of the strongest postseason meets in the country. Since 2005, George Washington University, an Atlantic 10 team, has replaced Towson. Every team in the league has improved and added top recruits so this championship should be very exciting.

University of New Hampshire University of New Hampshire Athletic Department Mission Statement
The mission of the intercollegiate athletics program at UNH is to provide student-athletes a collegiate experience that is enriched by their participation in programs which are competitive at the NCAA Division I level both regionally and nationally. The intercollegiate athletics program also plays an important role by enhancing the quality of life for the University and statewide community by being a source of pride and identification with the University while always maintaining high standards of academic scholarship and integrity. To fulfill its mission, the intercollegiate program must: (1) Provide student-athletes every opportunity to meet academic and athletic demands with the goal of graduating every student-athlete; (2) Provide resources necessary to field competitive teams with league affiliations, and to gain regional and national recognition; (3) Provide equitable opportunities for all intercollegiate athletics by the active recruitment of minority athletes, and provide equitable opportunities for all women student-athletes commensurate with that of their male counterparts; (4) Provide excellent facilities for all student-athletes to train, practice and play; (5) Conduct all operations within state and federal law, University policies, rules of the NCAA, and athletics conferences in which the University competes.
UNH Diversity Statement
The University seeks excellence through diversity among its administrators, faculty, staff, and students. The University prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, veteran status, or marital status. The University of New Hampshire is committed to creating a more diverse community, knowing that “inclusion, diversity and equity are values inextricably linked to our mission of educational excellence.” This diversity strengthens our ability to reach our individual and collective potential and to provide better services and care for all faculty, staff and students. The University of New Hampshire was originally founded as a land-grant college whose mission was to shape and educate citizenry among the state’s farmers, business people and engineers. Today, the University is a land-, sea-, and space-grant university serving a growing undergraduate student body of about 12,000 and a graduate population of 2,300 in addition to 600 full-time faculty members, 92% of which have earned their doctorate degree. The University has grown into a top public research university occupying 2,600 acres of classic living and learning space, while still maintaining the look and feel of a New England liberal arts college with a faculty dedicated to teaching. UNH’s student to faculty ratio registers at 18:1. As one of the most prestigious institutions in the Northeast, the University of New Hampshire has always been recognized as a leader in education and research, spanning all fields of study and uniting them through interdisciplinary programs, labs, farms, theatres, research centers and libraries. Founded in 1866 as the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts, UNH was among the early state institutions of higher education whose formation was made possible by federal government land grants. The purpose for the grants was to establish colleges that would serve the sons and daughters of farming and laboring families. New Hampshire College was originally situated in Hanover, N.H. Here it was in connection with Dartmouth College before moving to Durham in 1893 after Benjamin Thompson bequeathed land and money to further the development of the college. The state legislature then granted its new charter as the University of New Hampshire in 1923. The University hosts nearly 550 international students from more than 40 countries and boasts a population of students from 49 states. Along with over 100 majors offered, UNH encompasses seven schools and colleges that undergraduates can choose from: the College of Liberal Arts, College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, School of Health and Human Services, College of Life Sciences and Agriculture, Whittemore School of Business and Economics and the Thompson School of Applied Science. And at the very heart of the University’s undergraduate studies is the General Education Program. TRADITION ~ PRIDE ~ EXCELLENCE
The Administration Dr. Mark W. Huddleston- President Mark W. Huddleston became the 19th president of the University of New Hampshire in July 2007, bringing three decades of experience in public and private education as a faculty member, dean, and senior administrator. Huddleston has been a strong advocate for increasing affordability and accessibility in higher education, and has argued that we need to rethink much of what we do to protect our core missions, and to ensure that higher education remains vital and financially sustainable in the 21st century. In February 2010, he presented a 10-year strategic plan for UNH, the result of an intensive collaboration between faculty, students, staff, alumni, and the University’s wider communities. Emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship, the plan is helping to guide the University’s response to a historic state budget cut passed by the 2011 New Hampshire Legislature. “The strategic plan commits us to finding new ways to teach, learn, discover, create, and engage in the 21st century— and positions UNH to become a national leader in the redefinition of American higher education,” Huddleston says. Huddleston was raised in Syracuse, N.Y., and was the first member of his family ever to attend college. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York-Buffalo, and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He began his academic career at SUNY-Buffalo in 1977 as an assistant professor of political science. In 1980, he joined the faculty of the University of Delaware, where he served for the next 24 years. There, he chaired the Department of Political Science and International Relations and served as associate provost for international programs. In 2001, he was named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, overseeing 45 academic departments and centers with nearly 900 full-time faculty and staff, and serving in that capacity until he was named president of Ohio Wesleyan University in 2004. An author of numerous books and articles, he has been a consultant for both the U.S. government and international organizations. He also served as an adviser in Bosnia on rebuilding financial and administrative infrastructures after the Dayton accords. Huddleston is chair of the Presidents Council of the America East Conference, an incorporator of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Speedway Children’s Charities. Huddleston and his wife, Emma Bricker, have three children, Andy, Kate, and Giles.
Marty Scarano - Director of Athletics
The 2011-12 academic year represents the 12th season Marty Scarano has served as the Director of Athletics at the University of New Hampshire. During his tenure, Scarano has heightened national exposure for UNH athletics with academics, facility renovations and programmatic advancement being top priorities. With a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95 percent among its student-athletes in 2010-11, UNH ranked highest in the America East Conference, the Colonial Athletic Association and second nationally among all public institutions. The field hockey, women’s gymnastics, men’s soccer, women’s ice hockey, women’s skiing, women’s track and women’s volleyball teams all posted perfect 100 percent GSRs while the football team notched a 95 percent mark, tied for fifth-best in the nation in its respective sport. Four Wildcat teams were honored by the NCAA for multiyear Academic Progress Rates (APRs) in the top 10 percent of all teams in their respective sports: football, men’s indoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field and women’s gymnastics, with the football program compiling the best APR among all CAA institutions. UNH finished second in the America East Academic Cup for the third time in the last four years, achieving a 3.13 cumulative grade-point average. The Wildcats had the highest number of honorees on the 2010 America East Fall Academic Honor Roll and the second-highest percentage of student-athletes on the 2010-11 America East Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll. UNH athletics has consistently been ranked among the top of Division I institutions in the battle for the Learfield Sports NACDA Directors’ Cup. This past season, the Wildcats ranked 76th out of more than 370 Division I schools with 242.50 points, which was the best in America East. The Wildcats finished third behind only Connecticut (44) and Boston College (64) in the New England region. Scarano’s many accomplishments have played a key role in UNH being named one of the Top 20 Athletic Departments in the Country in U.S. News and World Report college athletics rankings in March 2002. UNH’s graduation rate for athletes has maintained levels at or exceeding 90 percent, which puts it among the nation’s best in Division I. Scarano has focused on moving UNH athletics into the collegiate national arena. To accomplish that goal, the University has taken on the task of hosting major NCAA championships. The Wildcat athletic department has played host to highly successful NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Northeast Regionals at the Verizon Wireless Arena (Manchester, N.H.) in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2011. UNH has had the opportunity to host two NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Frozen Fours in the Whittemore Center in 2002 and 2005. In addition, UNH successfully hosted the 2007 NCAA Skiing Championships in Washington Valley as well as the 2005 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Northeast Regional at the Whittemore Center Arena. There have been over $9 million in capitol improvements since Scarano’s hiring in the summer of 2000. Most recently, as part of a $650,000 renovation project in the summer of 2011, the field turf at Bremner Field was replaced with a new state-of-the-art surface used by many varsity teams and for student recreational activities. In the fall of 2008, the Paul Sweet Oval renovation was completed to include new surfaces, lighting, painting, infrastructure upgrades and the replacement of windows that existed in the original architecture. The total cost of the project exceeded $500,000. In the summer of 2007, the Cowell Stadium grass field was replaced with a $1 million Field Turf synthetic surface. Additionally in 2007, a complete renovation of Lundholm Gymnasium was undertaken. The $600,000 renovation included a new state-of-the-art bleacher system, new scoreboards, competition baskets and other aesthetic enhancements. Scarano also been an active member in the leadership of UNH’s three major conferences and was the chair of the executive committees for Atlantic 10 football, Hockey East and America East from 2003 to 2007. He also served as chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and is currently on the America East Executive Council. Scarano held the position of Athletics Director at Colorado College from July 1996 through June 2000. During his tenure, Colorado College was ranked among the top 20 Division III programs in the Sears Cup national standings and produced several All-Americans, all-academic award winners and NCAA post-graduate scholarship recipients. Prior to his stay in Colorado Springs, Scarano worked for 13 years at Colgate University, where he served as assistant director of athletics, director of physical education, associate director, and senior associate director. Scarano, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., is a 1978 graduate of Penn State University, where he started his athletic career as assistant ticket manager and the athletics events manager from 1980-83. Scarano holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental History from Colgate. He and his wife, Cydney, have three children: daughter, Lynden; son, Kyle, who is currently enrolled at UNH; and daughter, Corey, a junior at Oyster River High School.

Academic Excellence
Athletic excellence is part of the formula for success in the collegiate experience for University of New Hampshire gymnasts. The primary measure of achievement is the student-athlete’s success in the classroom. UNH is dedicated to enhancing the student-athlete’s ability to achieve academic excellence and has one of the top graduation rates in the country. Realizing the time commitment the gymnasts give to the school, the University administers a comprehensive program of academic support services that is available to Wildcat gymnasts and all other student-athletes. Joanne Maldari Assistant Athletic Director/ This program includes the monitoring of academic progress, providing tutorial services, access to a well-equipped studentathlete academic center, as well as interacting with the academic advisors within the various colleges. Academic Support Serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services since 1994 is Joanne Maldari, a 1990 graduate of Holy Cross who went on to earn her master’s degree in Athletic Counseling at Springfield College. She was recognized for her outstanding efforts at UNH by receiving the University’s 2001 Academic Advising Award. In Memory In November 2000, Katie Baldwin, a 20-year-old University of New Hampshire junior gymnast from Dover, Pa., passed away from a pulmonary embolism. Katie was an exceptional person who touched many lives. She was an outstanding athlete, scholar and friend. When everyone thinks of Katie, they always see her smile. It seems to be a smile that no one can, or will, ever forget. Katie was an NACGC/W Scholastic All-American both of her years and part of the EAGL All-Academic Team in both seasons. She made Dean’s List all four semesters and earned a grade point average of 3.81. She was a Dean’s Scholarship Award recipient and also a UNH academic athletic achievement award recipient in both 1999 and 2000. She was a three-event gymnast for UNH with career highs of 9.75 on bars, 9.575 on beam and 9.6 on the floor. She was named the team’s Most Improved Gymnast in 1999. Following each home meet, the UNH gymnastics staff will select a gymnast to receive the Katie Baldwin Expression Award. The 2011 winners included Katie Caliendo, Ali Carr, Courtney Connors, Katie Lawrence, Danielle Reibold and Chelsea Steinberg.
KATIE BALDWIN Academic Excellence Award
The Academic Excellence Award was established in 2002 and is awarded in memory of Katie Baldwin to the gymnast with the highest grade point average. In 2011, the honor was bestowed upon junior Danielle Reibold (Horsham, Pa.) in recognition of her classroom commitment. Spectators Guide Vault Vaulting requires speed, quickness and explosive power. Vaults are divided into three categories; handsprings, Tsukaharas 1/4 & 1/2 turn entry, and roundoff entry. The collegiate program has its own table for the starting value of all vaults with a maximum value of 10.0. Deductions may be taken in three phases of the vault — preflight (board to the table), support (when touching table), and after-flight (distance and height) from the table to point of landing. Only one vault will be performed per competitor.
In collegiate team competition, six gymnasts perform on each of the four apparatus. The five best scores per event are added together to form the cumulative team total. At least two judges are required to evaluate an athlete’s performance. The scores are averaged to arrive at a final mark. Collegiate programs follow the rules developed for the Level 10 Junior Olympic program with some modifications. Optional routines, put together by the gymnast to express herself through the skills she may perform best, are based from a starting score of 9.5, with a possibility of an additional .5 bonus for performing greater difficulty and special connections of skills. Skills are divided into different categories (A,B,C,D,E), with E containing the highest level of difficulty. Each event has special requirements that must be met. Judges use the following categories to evaluate optional routines: • Value Parts (difficulty) 2.2 • Special Requirements 2.0 • Additive Value 0.5 • Execution, Combination & Artistry 5.3 • Total 10.0 General: Each event has defined basic requirements for choice of elements “up to the competition level.” If not met, the deduction is .10. Other deductions are taken for such things as bent arms and legs, separation of legs, incomplete turns or lack of full stretch and insufficient artistry of presentation.

Uneven Bars A bar routine should be composed of elements from different groups: kips, cast and counter swings, underswing and clear hip circles, giant swings backward and forward, stalder circles and circle swings and hechts. Special requirements include a minimum of two bar changes, two different flight elements, minimum 2 different “C‘s” or a “B” and a “D”, one element with longitudinal axis turn of “C” value or greater and a dismount of at least “C” value. A strong routine shows elements with great amplitude, release moves, grip changes and direction changes and difficulty well-balanced throughout the routine. Pauses for concentration, intermediate swings and uncharacteristic elements are to be avoided. If a fall occurs, the gymnast must resume the exercise within 45 seconds.
Balance Beam
The beam routine should be composed of elements from the following groups: acrobatic elements with and without flight; dance elements such as turns, leaps or jumps and hops; running combinations; balance elements in a stand, sit and lying positions; and body waves. Special requirements of this event are an acrobatic series of a minimum of two flight elements - one which must be at least a C with or without hand support (both elements must start and finish on the beam), dance series of two or more elements one which must be “C’’ value or greater, a minimum of 360 degree turn, a leap or jump requiring 180 degree split (front or side) and at least a “C” dismount or a “B” preceded by and directly connected to any “C” or greater element. Performing on the four-inch beam requires precise movement and intense concentration; each wobble results in a deduction. The routine must finish under 90 seconds. If a fall occurs, a gymnast must resume the exercise within 30 seconds.
Floor Exercise
Floor exercise is a combination of dance, tumbling and acrobatics performed to music. The composition of the exercise must show harmony between gymnastics and acrobatic elements, create dynamic changes in rhythm and levels, and show versatile use of the entire floor. The routine must contain one acrobatic series with two (2) saltos (same or different), OR two (2) directly connected saltos. (If the two (2) saltos are not directly connected, they must be included in an acrobatic series, which is defined as a minimum of three acrobatic flight elements, with or without hand support). Three (3) different saltos are also required throughout the routine. A dance pass with a minimum of two (2), directly or indirectly connected leaps or jumps; one of which is a leap (one foot take-off) requiring a minimum of 180°split fulfills the dance expectations. A minimum of “C” salto as the last isolated salto or within the last salto connection completes the special requirements.
