WELCOME!: The University of New Hampshire office of athletic communications genuinely appreciates your coverage of UNH women’s soccer, and looks forward to each and every time it can welcome you to Durham. Members of the office include women’s soccer contact Taylor Sievers, associate athletic director for communications Mike Murphy, associate directors of athletic communications Doug Poole and Alex Comeau and Jon Luszcz, assistant director of athletic communications as well as the team of studentassistants who are available to assist with your coverage. The office is happy to help you however it can. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the policies relevant to your coverage of the women’s soccer program, as outlined on this page. Please feel free to contact Taylor Sievers via phone or email with questions regarding the media policy. GENERAL POLICIES: All interviews with any member of the women’s soccer program, including head coach Steve Welham, the coaching staff and student-athletes must be coordinated through Taylor Sievers in the office of athletic communications. Members of the media are strictly prohibited from approaching any coach, staff member or student-athlete by any means, including text messages, email, phone calls (cell, office or home) or social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, without first approaching athletic communications. Regarding unique subject matter, such as humaninterest angles, members of the media are welcome to approach the office of athletic communications at least 24 hours in advance with requests to interview any member of the program. Approved requests will be granted. INTERVIEW GUIDELINES: Interviews, either in person or via telephone, with members of the UNH women’s soccer coaching staff and student-athletes must be coordinated through assistant director of athletic communications Taylor Sievers. Media are asked not to request an individual’s personal contact information, including email and cell number, but rather to contact Taylor Sievers. Student-athletes and coaches are available for interviews at the conclusion of daily practice sessions. Student-athlete interviews will not conflict with classes, meetings, medical treatment or practice times. Interviews are not permitted in the locker room or training room. Interviews will not be granted on match days until following the contest. Telephone interviews should be requested at least 24 hours in advance and coordinated through Taylor Sievers. All interviews will be processed on an availability basis involving the requested interviewee. PRACTICE GUIDELINES: All UNH women’s soccer practices are open to the media and public, unless otherwise noted. During the season, practice will generally run from 1-3 p.m. during the week, except on match and travel days. Please note, practice times are subject to change on short or no notice. At times, practice will end early, so please plan to arrive early. Practice will usually take place on Bremner Field, but contact Taylor Sievers for the most updated schedule. All interviews must take place before or after practice. If this is an issue, contact Taylor Sievers, and the office of athletic communications and we will try and accommodate to your schedule. All media should remain on the sidelines, standing a safe distance from the boundary to prevent collisions. GAMEDAY: Near the end of each home match, the athletic communications staff will ask those on hand representing the media who they wish to speak with. Approximately 10 minutes after the
conclusion of a match, head coach Steve Welham and the selected student-athletes will be available for questions. GAMEDAY SERVICES: In-game services include live online statistics and box scores following the contest. REPORTING OF INJURIES: At all times throughout the calendar year, head coach Steve Welham will serve as the sole source for injury information. All questions related to injuries should be directed to Welham, and not to any other members of the program, including athletic trainers, doctors, the injured student-athlete or her teammates. Huddleston was elected the 19th president of UNH in July 2007, where he brought three decades of experience in public and private education as a faculty member, dean and senior administrator. During his tenure, Scarano has heightened national exposure for UNH athletics with academics, facility renovations and programmatic advancement being top priorities.

The new stadium will provide a community-strengthening space to be shared by our campus, the town of Durham, and citizens throughout the Granite State, with a seating capacity between 10,000 and 12,000. West Stadium will serve as a symbol of excellence, reflecting the prestige conveyed by other University landmarks. The stadium will significantly benefit not only the football program, but other athletic teams such as lacrosse, soccer and track and field – who will train and compete here.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON UNH FACILITIES... Bremner Field, named after Claire and Robert Bremner ‘33, is the home of UNH men’s and women’s soccer. It was renovated into an AstroPlay facility (approximately 110,000 square feet) with full lighting in the summer of 2002. In 2013, UNH constructed a scoreboard thanks to a generous gift from former UNH soccer players, Jack Sebastian ’88 and Matthew Witkos ’89.

The mission of the student-athlete support services office at the University of New Hampshire is to provide the academic support and resources necessary for students to succeed in their academic endeavors. The Watkins Center for Student-Athlete Excellence, which is located on the second floor of the Field House, supports all students who strive to balance the challenges of representing UNH as students and as Division I athletes.

A monetary donation by Azumah, a cornerback with the Chicago Bears of the NFL and 1999 recipient of the Walter Payton award (Top football player in Division I-AA), allowed the UNH athletic department to overhaul its existing strength and conditioning center.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING... Chapman is in his 14th year as the director of strength and conditioning at the University of New Hampshire in 2015-16. Chapman helped coordinate the building of the state-ofthe-art Jerry Azumah Performance Center in 2003 and has guided UNH student-athletes to NCAA appearances in both women’s and men’s ice hockey, football, gymnastics, women’s volleyball, women’s lacrosse, skiing, women’s soccer and track and field.
Ciani is in his 14th season with the UNH athletic department during the 2015-16 academic year. After four years as an assistant coach in the University’s strength and conditioning office, Ciani was promoted to the position of Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning in 2006. Ciani’s efforts have been key in guiding UNH student-athletes to NCAA appearances in both men’s and women’s ice hockey, football, gymnastics, women’s volleyball, women’s lacrosse, skiing, women’s soccer and track and field.
Edwards was named the assistant strength and conditioning coach in August 2014. He supervises, directs and trains student-athletes in regards to exercise and lifting techniques. Edwards will also work as a coordinator for Healthy UNH, specifically as the instructor for noon-time faculty/staff strength and conditioning. Healthy UNH’s mission is to promote a campus-wide initiative that encourages faculty, staff and students to improve their health while decreasing health care costs.

Newsky will be entering her 13th year with UNH athletics. Overall Newsky has been at UNH for the past 22 years, working at the alumni association previously. She is primarily responsible for the daily operations, including assisting the coaching staff with recruiting, team travel and fundraising. Brandon Thomas was appointed as an academic coordinator during August of 2013. Thomas is a two-time time graduate from Winthrop University earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in English (2010) and a Master’s of Science in Sport & Fitness Administration (2012). Before coming to New Hampshire, Thomas worked in the athletic departments at the University of North Dakota and Belmont Abbey College.

Sievers was hired as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications in May of 2015. He handles all media requests for women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s basketball and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. Sievers grew up Bow, N.H. and graduated in May 2015 from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Kinesiology: Sport Studies and a minor in Business Administration.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON HEAD COACH STEVE WELHAM... During his first year at the helm, Welham coached the Wildcats to their first America East championship in program history. A team that went 4-8-6 overall in 2013, Welham improved goals per game, goals against per game, shots and decreased total yellow cards. Before UNH, he coached at conference member Stony Brook from 2006-2013. While with the Seawolves, Welham’s primary responsibilities included working with goalkeepers and the back defensive line as well as running and assisting with full-team training sessions. He also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE COACHING STAFF... Prior to joining the Wildcats, Webb worked three seasons (2011-13) on the staff at Bucknell University. There, she mentored the Bison goalkeepers and, in 2013, helped the program reach the Patriot League tournament for the first time since 2010. In 2012, Webb helped senior Sandita McDermott earn All-Patriot League honors.
Boateng holds a USSF “C” license along with the NSCAA National Diploma. Boateng was also a 2013 NSCAA 30 under 30 award recipient, given to the top 30 coaches in the country who are under 30 years of age. He was also awarded the NSCAA Next Generation Coach award, which is designed to help young talented coaches start their careers.

CLICK HERE TO ACCESS THE 2015 SEASON PREVIEW... New Hampshire returns 16 players from last year’s championship squad, adding 13 newcomers to increase depth and youth to a team with five seniors. Defending the program’s first conference title begins Aug. 21 (7 p.m.) with a home matchup against the University of Rhode Island. Last season, the Wildcats posted a 4-1-2 record in the final seven games to secure the championship and compete in their first NCAA game ever.
