THE COACHES JEN FALLON HEAD COACH
The 2016 squad earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the third consecutive season. The team won three contests against ranked opponents including a 10-0 shutout over No. 14 Stonehill, the program’s first blanking since 2003. Fallon saw senior Corinne Fisher crack the record books, as she entered the program’s top ten in total points, goals and assists while fellow senior Maya Szymanski also broke into the top ten in assists. Fallon guided her players to seven All-Conference and seven IWLCA awards.
Fallon previously earned NE10 Coach of the Year laurels in 2009 – New Haven’s first season as a member of the prestigious Division II conference. In that campaign, the Chargers won the Northeast-10 Conference Championship to garner the program’s first-ever NCAA Championship berth. Fallon’s 2009 club finished at 16-4 with a 9-1 NE10 record – setting the program record for wins and conference wins in a season and starting the streak of four consecutive trips to the Northeast-10 Championship that remains active through 2012. She guided New Haven to seven wins in 2010 and notched a winning season in 2011 with a 10-8 tally.
In 2015, the program continued to excel, qualifying for its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as Fallon once against garnered Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year accolades. The team won its first ever game against Adelphi, snapping a 36-game winning streak for the top-ranked Panthers. Fallon also mentored the IWLCA Division II National Defensive Player of the Year, Brittany Ast and saw Kathryn Campbell become the second player in school history to reach the 300 point mark in her career.
Fallon took over the Chargers’ program in 2007 and, in her first spring at New Haven, matched the program record with seven victories. Before coming to New Haven, Fallon served as the head girls’ lacrosse coach and physical education teacher at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, Conn., with additional duties in the areas of policy & curriculum and athletic game management. Fallon started her coaching career at her alma mater in 1997 as Sacred Heart University’s head women’s soccer coach from 1997-2000. Fallon also served as the school’s assistant compliance coordinator for two years while coaching.
HISTORY & RECORDS
As a collegiate lacrosse player, Fallon was a three-time Division II All-America selection (1994-96) and is Sacred Heart’s all-time scoring leader with 264 career points. She scored 212 career goals with 52 assists and, in her AllAmerica seasons, posted three of the school’s top-four single-season point totals. She is 20th on the Division II national career scoring list, and is ninth all-time in goals scored.
THE UNIVERSITY
Playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation in 2013, the Chargers finished with a record of 12-7 and climbed as high as No. 8 in the national rankings. Rachel Resnick and Natalie Lieberman were both named Second Team All-America by the IWLCA, with Resnick garnering Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors. In total, five New Haven student-athletes claimed year-end accolades. All seven of New Haven’s losses came against nationally-ranked competition, and the Chargers also won two contests against ranked opponents en route to an NE10 postseason win and trip to the conference semifinals.
The 2008 campaign saw Fallon named the Inside Lacrosse Division II National Coach of the Year in her second season at the helm after leading the Chargers to the program’s first-ever winning campaign with a then-programrecord 14 victories and just three losses. Fallon, who was also named the East Coast Conference Coach of the Year, mentored Brigid Brady ’09 to the program’s first Division II All-America honor following her third-consecutive 50-goal season.
2016 REVIEW
Behind Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year honors for Fallon, the 2014 campaign tied a program-record for wins (16) and set a new record with an 11-1 NE10 slate. The Chargers played the ninth toughest schedule in Division II and the second toughest in the NE10 with eight games against teams ranked in the top 15. New Haven earned its highest-ever national ranking at No. 4 - a position it held for five-straight weeks starting on April 7. UNH finished the year with its highest ever national ranking at No. 6. Junior midfielder Kathryn Campbell became the program’s third AllAmerica First Team selection and was New Haven’s first NE10 Midfielder of the Year honoree. Brittany Ast and Nicole McKee were All-America Second Team selections as well - making 2014 one of the most decorated years in Charger history. The three joined seven others who received postseason awards from the conference. The Chargers’ postseason run began with their second appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Game and finished in their second NCAA Division II quarterfinal apperance.

2017 PREVIEW
Coming off its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, the University of New Haven women’s lacrosse team is looking for another strong season in 2017. Under the direction of 11th year head coach, Jen Fallon, the Chargers bring back three of their top five scorers from a season ago as well as an all-region selection on defense as they once again look to finish towards the top of an always highlycompetitive Northeast-10 Conference. ATTACK Senior Caitlin O’Brien leads the New Haven offense coming off a season in which she scored 38 goals and assisted on 25 others, garnering NE10 Third Team honors. Also returning for New Haven is junior Jessica Mazliah who started all 20 games for the Chargers, scoring 26 times and finishing fifth in the conference with 30 assists. Sophomore Mackenzie Reh is expected to see a significantly increased role from a season ago to help bolster the attack. Fellow Sophomore Samantha Galler, an All-Rookie Team selection last season, has continued to develop and will be counted on for scoring punch. Also expected to make significant contributions will be freshmen Caroline Maher, a crafty attacker with great vision and Julia Jette, a crease crasher who is a composed finisher and experienced feeder. Freshmen Hailey Rattigan will provide depth on the draw and behind the cage along with Olivia Serpa who is a quick dodging attacker. Sophomore Kayla Pjatak, who saw in five games during the 2016 season, will miss the upcoming year due to injury. MIDFIELD Leading the way in the midfield are senior Nicole Belanger and graduate student Kendall Ciatek. Belanger is taking on a different role in 2017, as she will be asked to be more of a playmaker, taking advantage of her two-way abilities while providing a boost to the transition game. Ciatek comes to New Haven from Division I Villanova where she played in 36 games during her career. She is expected to provide scoring punch as a hard-driving player coming through the middle or around the fan.

DEFENSE Arguably the strongest returning unit for the Blue and Gold, New Haven brings back all four starters from a team that ranked in the top-20 nationally in scoring defense. Senior Hannah Johnson was an IWLCA All-North Region and Northeast-10 Conference Second Team performer a season ago. Fellow seniors Meredith Michel and Alicia Mortali started a combined 39 of a possible 40 games last year with Michel scooping up 34 ground balls. Junior Courtney Duffy started 19 of 20 games in 2016 and ranked third on the Chargers with 13 caused turnovers. Seeing an increased role this season is sophomore Marie Cox, who is strong 1-on-1 defender with terrific speed. Freshman Zoe Wilkins a very strong on ball and off ball defender will be used both defensively and in the midfield while fellow freshman Raven Linton will add tremendous speed to help in transition and could see time on the draw. Sophomore Madison Unterstein will provide depth defensively after gaining some experience last year. GOALKEEPERS After graduating the tandem of Alyssa Gianotti and Marissa McDermott, New Haven has some big shoes to fill between the pipes. It will be an open competition between freshmen Gianna Guerra and Erica Rinsky and sophomore Alexa Carbone. Guerra is very technical in net and a great distributor of the ball while Rinsky is a shot stopper who plays with energy and makes saves. Carbone saw action last year for the Blue and Gold, making a pair of saves at Merrimack. SCHEDULE For the sixth consecutive season, New Haven earned a spot in the IWLCA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll, ranking 11th. The 17-game slate includes 13 games against Northeast-10 Conference opponents and three games against teams that participated in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. “Once again, we look forward to playing one of the most competitive schedules in all of Division II,” said coach Fallon. “With the strength
