children’s activities, and talks on everything from 21st century consumerism to the Norman Conquest. We hope you have an enjoyable and inspiring experience. And whether you’ve come for a specific event

Come and visit the computer music studios at Anglia Ruskin and create your own fractal sounds using specially designed computer software. No prior expertise is required.

Violinist Mifune Tsuji, pianist Paul Jackson and saxophonist Jin Theriault explore music that evokes strong sentiments of power and conflict.

Tom Shakespeare (UEA) and Mik Scarlet (broadcaster, journalist and disability consultant) from the disabled community who hold opposing views will debate the issues.
The talk explores how peoples’ identities are intertwined with what they consume and how marketing has a pivotal part to play in this.
Thoughts. Facts or fictions? 12–1.30pm, pre-book, adults Lord Ashcroft Building, LAB002 Camyoga’s mindfulness expert Dr Burr presents an experiential journey into the nature of mind. What are thoughts made of? Where do they come from? How do they impact on our daily lives?
Relinquishing power while resisting change 1–2.30pm, pre-book, adults Lord Ashcroft Building, LAB207 Attitudes toward gay men has evolved in the UK, but what has it evolved into, how do psychologists measure it, and how do these attitudes affect sexual minorities?
English meets the Normans 1–2pm, pre-book, age 12+ Lord Ashcroft Building, LAB220 In 1066, the Normans invaded England, bringing with them their French language – and for the next 300 years the ruling classes of England spoke French. How did English survive the invasion?
Audio films for visually impaired audiences 1.30–2.30pm, please arrive on time, adults Lord Ashcroft Building, LAB107 Dr Mariana Lopez explores groundbreaking research on audio films, a format of sonic art developed as an alternative to audio description (AD) for visually impaired audiences. This talk is linked to the demos entitled ‘Lamb to the Slaughter: an audio film’.
Pornography, feminism and resistance 2.30–3.30pm, pre-book, adults Lord Ashcroft Building, LAB002 This talk looks at the nature and prevalence of mainstream pornography, considers its impact and effects and raises critical questions regarding feminist resistance.
Challenging the gender binary through science fiction and fantasy 3–4.30pm, pre-book, age 12+ Lord Ashcroft Building, LAB003 Cheryl Morgan examines how writers of science fiction and fantasy fiction have imagined worlds where the dominance of binary gender is challenged, subverted, and even swept away.
Of memories, mental time travel and The Moustachio Quartet 5–6.30pm, pre-book, adults Lord Ashcroft Building, LAB002 Screening and discussion of the film La Jetee and readings from The Moustachio Quartet. Both works explore the shifting nature of memory and our assumptions of how time unfolds.
Film Lamb to the Slaughter: an audio film Morning sessions: 11–11.30am, 11.30am–12pm, 12–12.30pm, 12.30–1pm Afternoon sessions: 4.30–5pm, 5–5.30pm, 5.30–6pm, 6–6.30pm Sign up on the day, adults Helmore Building, HEL041 A chance to experience an audio film based on a Roald Dahl short story for adults and played back in immersive surround sound.
