If you've had a history with worrying too much in your life before then you'll already understand just what a heavy toll it can take. It can affect people in a variety of ways such as through poor quality sleep or feeling nervous during the day. It's very hard to stop worrying, but why? For the majority or chronic worriers, it is fueled by their belief system. It represents a double edged sword in that on the positive side you believe that your worrying saves you from a lot of potential pain, keeps you safe and enables you to avoid some degree of suffering. However on the negative side you could also believe that your life is worse off for all the worrying you do, that your stress levels are high because of it and that you could lose your self control and become paralysed in life. A vicious circle begins here. If you think your worrying is negative then mostly it just gives you another thing to worry about. You are worrying about your worrying. If you believe however that worrying is something useful and positive in your life it can be even more damaging. You'll make it a lot harder to break your habit if you believe it actually does contribute something useful to your life. A key to overcoming the problem lies in accepting that worrying does not 'save' you from anything. The habit does not mean you'll will suffer less or avoid any lesser degree of pain than the next person in life. You are essentially in a fight to regain control of your mind and to manage your negative thoughts with positive ones.
