Inside the Aged Communities: The Search for Water Well Stories By supporting life and human activity, water is indispensable for the creation of culture. One manifestation is water well. Water well supports life by offering drinking water, and supports culture by being an important site for communal congregation and interaction. In analyzing water well, we gain a lucid and important perspective on the city's culture. For Hangzhou, this importance of water and hence water well is even more explicit and worth investigating.

RENDERING - PRIVATE SPACE The theme of the private space is neighborhood interaction. Two families share this yard. The former yard is just used to pile up sundries. Now it is redivided into drying area, planting area, rest area and activity area. Increased opportunities for residents to interact around Wells. Entrance

RENDERING - OPEN SPACE The theme of the open space is selling. This is the entrance to the neighborhood. Nearby residents like to grow fruits and vegetables in their yards. They can sell them in this area. The water Wells in the whole neighborhood form a tourist route. Here is the starting point, and visitors can follow the directions on the signs beside the water Wells. Direction of people

Pixel Garden Our site is located in a new technology business district, converted from a printing factory. Within the site, the problem of unregulated parking runs rampant, seriously contributing to congestion and many inconveniences. At the meantime, many valuable spaces are not utilized such that the visual view is poor and employees here do not want to linger long and simply want to go back home when the work is over. Although the district is home to many companies. there are usually few walkers outside. Therefore, how to stimulate the vigor of the site is the key to our present design.

STRATEGIES

1. Route Design

2. Central Street Design

3. Function Design

Set the Entry and Exit One into motorized vehicles only; two into pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles only; the road in between as a single lane one-way road.

Reduce vehicle speed, guarantees the safety of pedestrians, while enhancing the enjoyment of driving and walking.

According to the differing needs of the site, set two zones, one dynamic and the other static.

DYNAMIC PLAZA - 1.DINING AREA

On the Dynamic Plaza are many interactive funs, which represent the theme of being active and is conveyed through the shape of square/cube. In the dining area are lightable tiles, music chairs, movable cubes, an interactive fountain and exercise facilities. In the dining area, when stepping on certain tiles, they will light up, contributing to a cheerful atmosphere.

DYNAMIC PLAZA - 2.TREE PLAZA

In the tree plaza, cubic chairs are movable such that when it is moved to dark collored tiles, there will be music playing.

RENDERING - ACTIVITY CENTER

LOCATION

Reshaping the Gourmet Street The rapid development of economy has brought about the rapid expansion of city, but the resulted city is fraught with problems, especially lack of space. Many streets are overly grand, making people feel chaos, overcrowdedness and sometimes even danger. How to re-introduce the comfy, dear and safe street and how to create it in a fun, entertaining way is the main focus of my thinking. Many cases have proven that by rebuilding streets and reshaping the public space, the bond between residents in a city can be greatly enhanced, along with increased economic vigor and life quality. Slowing down the pace of city and allowing residents to feel its humanity is simply fundamentally desirable.

Landscape & Urban Design Street System Reshaping Hangzhou, China Individual Work 2017.5-2017.7 Xinyue Sui, Hua Liu

SITE ANALYSIS & PROBLEMS A known gourmet spot, there are many popular resturants near the site. Besides restaurants, there are tea shops, flower shops, supermarkets, a bus station and a school. Overall, the site is frequented by a great number of people, especially near restaurants, flower shops, milktea shops and food markets.

Foreign gourmet ratio Original residents ratio Crowded place

Very limited space. Very narrow sidewalk while the bicyle lane too wide.

Chaotic design. Space for walking, resting, bicycle parking and other activities is all mixed-up.

Road tiles are of inferior quality and without beauty.

Ecologically unfriendly.

WAYS TO RENOVATE ROADS - CASE STUDY

DIVISION OF SIDEWALK AREA

By analyzing sidewalks, I classify them into four zones, which are reconstructed according to the respective situation.

Transition Zone: Pedestrian Through Zone: Service Zone: Buffering Zone:

It can be renovated when the sidewalk is wide. The widest part of the sidewalk Key reconstruction area Some sidewalks have this area

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BICYCLES AND PASSENGERS

CHANGES ON THE STREET SYSTERM Because some existent bicycle lanes are too wide, I shorten them and widen the sidewalks. Applying this road system to the whole street, I’ll pick four important junctions to analyze.

Key Ives 2100 Climate changes is a severe and growing challenge for 21st century cities, from droughts to forest fires and from storms to rising sea levels. Coastal cities will be strongly affected by the rising sea levels. Currently, sea levels are rising on average 3.2 millimeters (0.13 in) per year, but this number is expected to rapidly increase as average temperature rise, with roughly 7.5 feet of sea level rise expected per degree Celsius of warming. The sea level in Miami will have risen by 8 feet by 2100. Miami become an island city. Our site located in North Miami. This project shows how people lived on the island in 2100.

Working Project: Dog Park Category Location Type Team Member Time Instructor

Landscape Design Downtown Miami, FL, USA Team Work Tianqi Xu, Yibo Zhang 2019 Veruska Vasconez

Area: 5846 square ft.

Because it's downtown Miami, it's surrounded by tall buildings and under the metro station. Our concept is to make people feel like they are in nature in this dog park.We used arc as the design element, for one thing, to echo the concept of close to nature, and for the other, to make it safer for dogs to run in the park.

As for the materials, as the site is located under the subway station, the sun is not abundant enough to allow large areas of plants to be used. So the pavement is given priority to with concrete, the middle design part used false grass and plastic hill slope, easy to take care of.
