ENGLISH FOR VISITING UNIVERSITY AND SCHOOL GROUPS Short courses in English language and culture

The University of Kent is a top-ranking UK university, which attracts a large number of international students, thanks to its global reputation for academic excellence and inspirational teaching. The Times Higher Education (THE) has recognised Kent for its ‘exceptional performance’ in teaching and research.

Our location Established in 1965, the University’s Canterbury campus is situated in the southeast of England, less than one hour away from London by high-speed train. The city of Canterbury is only a 25-minute walk from the campus. As well as historic sites, including the world- famous Canterbury Cathedral, it has a wide range of shops, cafés and restaurants.

About our short courses We have been providing short courses for visiting groups of university and school students for more than 20 years. Our courses combine interesting and communicative English language tuition with exciting excursions and cultural visits to London and other places in the south-east.

How are our courses structured? Our courses are flexible and we can tailor them to incorporate your requirements. They generally include:    

English language classes in the morning guided project work in the afternoon pronunciation and presentation skills activities and excursions

What are the course aims? Our courses aim to: 

     

activate and further develop English language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing develop communication skills consolidate use of grammar extend vocabulary range improve pronunciation develop confidence in the use of English develop intercultural awareness and an understanding of life in the UK

Karaoke Evening

Assessment We assess students’ English through entry and exit level tests. Participants will be assessed through entry and exit level English language tests.


Accommodation and meals Accommodation is in student houses or residences. You can choose between private or shared bathrooms. We offer full board, bed and breakfast or self-catering meal plans.

Social and Sports activities We offer a range of fun sports and social activities, including:     

evening activities in Canterbury and on campus quizzes and film evenings pub and café evenings sports events with other international students studying at CEWL the option to join the Sports Centre

Cultural activities Cultural activities may include:  

organised excursions to London, Dover and Leeds Castle cultural exchanges with other students

Entry requirements We design our courses to fit your group’s requirements and level of English.

Course fees Indicative costs and financial arrangements are available on request. Fees cover:    
