Student Profile

JESSICA KRISHAN

Suffolk Executive MBA I moved to Suffolk from India because the UK is a reputable top provider of higher education and people from all over the world come to study here. It also provided an ideal opportunity to meet other international students and support with academic advice. At the University of Suffolk, right from the beginning I received all the support I needed. With smaller teaching groups, everyone will know your name and support on academic advice or one-to-one tutorials will be offered generously. The University also has a fantastic careers and employability team of warm and friendly advisers that can help students look for opportunities in any field or sector.

Ipswich is a lovely place to study, everything is really close by. Its proximity to London along with the nearby coast and the countryside, make it a very attractive study destination. There is a thriving small business community here and dedicated sessions are provided by the University to help students looking to set up their own business. I was able to network through such events and get great advice from a professional. It has broadened my vision as to how much is possible and I am excited to launch my own business, an Education Abroad consultancy in the very near future. I will always remember Suffolk as a place of transformation and growth.

Student Profile

ROSIE HOLMES

Student Life Adviser, Student Centre Our relationship with our students starts before they arrive and we work closely with Admissions. Quite often people contact us first and we find them the right people to talk to. Once they arrive, we assist with the enrolment process and we have a dedicated member of our team who supports international students. Students often call-in and we help with whatever they need, anything from registering with a doctor to where to buy their groceries, we are here to help. As a relatively small university we see our students on campus, know them by name and can chat about how things are going. Being a part of the student's whole journey, right from their first enquiry up to seeing them walk across the stage at the graduation ceremony is really satisfying. We watch them find their feet and grow in confidence, we have the peer mentor scheme for anyone needing that extra

bit of help and some of our new students go on to become peer mentors themselves. Our team are like Google for the University, we get asked anything and everything. We give lots of help with administration, things like opening a bank account and our students are always really surprised by just how much support is available. The best advice for international students is to plan ahead and organise your finance and accommodation, use the information available to get to know the area and join social media groups to see what’s happening. When you arrive make the most of the induction support, and visit the Student Centre, say hello to the Student Life Advisers and join the Students’ Union organised trips to get out and explore.

Student Profile

DOYIN AKINDOTUNI MSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence When I took the decision to study the MSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, I had basic experience working with data back in my home country Nigeria. I knew the programme would equip me with an understanding and the expertise to thrive in an ever-changing data-centric world. I enjoyed the units related to data science, and I hope to work on a data science study in my extended project. One of the best things about this course is that having former knowledge about coding is not necessary as the lecturers made it really easy to acquire the basics. It has been helpful and opened my eyes to degrees of coding knowledge, which were new to me.

The support is great, being able to contact a lecturer in multiple ways for help with module materials and assessment is priceless, especially when they reply quickly with an abundance of constructive feedback. I look forward to working fully in a data scientist role where I can put all the skills from my MSc to use.
