International Advice team
The Student Life team supports international students throughout their entire student journey in Suffolk from the moment they receive their student visa through to graduation. We know that moving to a new country can be daunting, therefore we offer advice and guidance to help students with this journey and we do this in many ways from pre-arrival webinars to on-campus induction and one-to-one support.
The International Student Community Cafe is designed to bring our student community together. Each cafe is themed and introduces a different support service available at the University. We enjoy watching the community grow and friendships flourish.
A highlight in our calendar is the annual International Festival, where we organise an array of events to celebrate our international student community.
This year we enjoyed working with the Sustainability team allowing students to spend time in the wildlife garden and we hosted the International Big Night-In which is a colourful celebration of our international student community. We spent the evening sharing food and playing games, and many of our students enjoyed adorning their national dress.
To make the most of your time in Suffolk, we would advise that you live close to the University campus so that you can make the most of the University activities and events organised throughout the year. We would also encourage you to get involved with the Students' Union, play social sports and join a society, this way you will make new friends and fully immerse into the University community.
We look forward to welcoming you to the University and cannot wait for you to join our thriving international community.

Micro-Placements offer paid opportunities that enable you to take on real responsibility by working on live projects or within services at the University. The placements are flexible to fit in with your studies.
uos.ac.uk/micro-placements-scheme
As part of the Micro-Placement Scheme I got the opportunity to work with the International team at the University, developing a social media campaign aimed at international students. Working with the International team on this project has been incredibly rewarding. Throughout the journey I was able to learn from each member of the team, gaining valuable insights and knowledge into digital international marketing. The placement gave me the chance to develop skills taught as part of my Masters and apply them to a real work environment, such as teamworking and research skills. It also gave me a chance to build upon new skills, such as content writing and editing, diversifying my abilities which will help me in my career once I graduate.

DEEPALI THAKUR
MSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
I chose to study at the University of Suffolk because of their leading approach to teaching, using block and blend means you can get a greater understanding of each module and the subject area.
The location was also a big factor in my decision-making process, Ipswich is a lovely town with everything you could want within walking distance.
The University of Suffolk offers amazing support to students, which I have used throughout my time at the University. The Student Centre has helped me with a range of day-to-day situations, like getting a student rail card and planning social trips to Cambridge and other locations.
Through the Careers team, I was able to find an opportunity to intern at Hadleigh Cricket Club, and the team supported me through the entire application process. At the club I was able to get hands-on experience with the Data Mining Project, working on predictions of cricket game scores. I am working on a paper with Dr. Mikael Jamil, Senior Lecturer in Sports Performance Analysis at the University, so hoping to achieve more in this sector.
I have enjoyed learning a lot, the teachers were really understanding, approachable, and open to discussing our weaknesses and how to work on them. It has helped me gain confidence and develop personally and professionally.
