ONE UNIVERSITY WITH SIX KEY AREAS OF DISTINCTIVENESS There is substantial knowledge and expertise within the University that, when harnessed and shared, impacts positively on local businesses. This has been proven time and again through knowledge transfer partnerships, our TogetherwithBusiness programme, the provision of quality short courses and commissioned CPD projects. The six areas of distinctiveness that we have focused on to develop our research, business engagement and portfolio are: Creative and Digital Technologies Social Justice and Crime Health and Wellbeing
Pedagogy/Learning and Teaching Sustainability These areas of distinctiveness are linked to our research centres and institutes including the DigiTech Centre, The Hold, our new Integrated Care Academy and the new Leadership Academy. These new initiatives will contribute to the success of our strategy to position the University for a long term partnership with our business communities. Hot off the press EUROPEAN UNION European Social Fund
In-Career Education and Training (ICET) Project The In-Career Education and Training (ICET) project is a training enterprise, funded by the University of Suffolk and the European Social Fund that will improve and increase employer participation and engagement in learning across the Suffolk region. A key element of the project is to procure and deliver high level, quality training from nationally accredited training providers. ICET focuses on two key themes of training: leadership/ management and digital innovation.
The provision of high-level training will aid professionals at SMEs and micro-businesses to overcome challenges and support their businesses to recover from Covid-19, to be sustainable and achieve their growth potential. The project aims to support SMEs to access 50% funding towards high level immersive training courses with a key focus on developing female entrepreneurs and leaders.

The School of Engineering, Arts Technology and Science is a dynamic learning and innovation environment and an ideal place for people with curious minds and a passion for solving problems. Our Programmes provide a strong integration of Arts, Science, Engineering and Creative Technologies to equip professionals with the skills they need to meet the demands of the ever-changing societal needs.

The DigiTech Centre is an exciting new state of the art digital skills training centre, located in buildings at Adastral Park. DigiTech is a unique collaboration between the University of Suffolk and BT, with funding from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership and houses a CPD hub. The move to digital technology is transforming all industries and The University is utilising the knowledge and expertise of internal academics and partnering with national training providers to ensure that a credible selection of advanced digital courses is made available locally to support our region’s cluster of competitive digital businesses.

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND CRIME The School of Social Sciences and Humanities focuses on exploring and understanding human relationships, societies, and culture; past and present and in particular, how we might contribute to its further development. With a number of areas of the academic portfolio focusing on law and criminology, our academic specialists are often called on to provide advice at a government level and to deliver bespoke training projects. CPD and Short Courses on offer at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities includes: Enhancing Practice to Empower Looked After Children: Trauma, Attachment and Education
Coming soon: Designated Teacher Award for looked after children Bespoke CPD: The Social Work department have been commissioned by Suffolk County Council to provide bespoke CPD in the form of the Return to Social Work course to support Registered Social Workers to return to practice. We welcomed our second cohort of students for this course in April 2021. A more recent commissioned Social Work CPD project is related to Professional Curiosity and will inform best practice at Suffolk County Council.

THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY The new Leadership Academy has been set up to provide executive education, leadership and management support for the regrowth and competitiveness of the local and regional economy, and the challenges of the pandemic and Brexit. A key element to the Leadership Academy offer will be the provision of accredited Leadership and Management Courses through the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

THE NEW INTEGRATED CARE ACADEMY (ICA) The Integrated Care Academy (ICA) is an exciting new partnership between the University of Suffolk, the local Integrated Care System, Suffolk County Council and Healthwatch Suffolk and others from the voluntary and community sector. The ICA will offer co-produced programmes to assist local services in providing the best possible joined-up care to keep people healthy and independent for as long as possible. The ICA is committed to enriching integrated care to make a difference for local communities. Thi commitment is backed by the alignment of its ‘priority areas’ to those recognised by the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) and its three locality

Alliances (Ipswich and East Suffolk, West Suffolk and North East Essex): optimal mental health and emotional well-being; best quality of life as we grow older; and care and support we need towards the end of life. The ICA will enhance quality of care, quality of life and health equality through its five core programmes that embrace co-production to maximise local and regional impact: Education, training and development Workforce development Leadership and cultural change Digital, data and technology Research and innovation
CULTURE AND HERITAGE Culture and Heritage Centre Connecting People, Place and Society Our range of arts and humanity disciplines across the University all focus on our genuine commitment to understand our culture, heritage, community, collective and individual sense of identity. We actively engage with cultural partners across the Suffolk region and are particularly proud of our partnership with the Hold (Suffolk County Archives) which highlights the significant funding investment by the University in our regional history and in exploring our lived experiences.

THE HOLD – SUFFOLK ARCHIVES Located within Ipswich’s unique and regenerating Waterfront, The Hold, a brand new heritage facility, safely houses the bulk of Suffolk’s nationally and internationally significant archives. More than a building, the development is the catalyst for a transformed, audience-focused service, which can better reach diverse communities in Ipswich, the county and beyond. Suffolk Archives has developed a countywide programme of activities to complement the development of The Hold, aimed at engaging more people than ever before with Suffolk’s archival heritage.

The Hold is a public building offering a range of displays and facilities for all, including a changing programme of exhibitions in the purpose-built gallery, permanent archiveinspired displays, a café and a shop. The building also offers dedicated University spaces including a 200-seat auditorium and two seminar rooms. The development of The Hold was possible thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other heritage organisations across Suffolk and further afield. Further information
THE IPSWICH WATERFRONT INNOVATION CENTRE (IWIC) The IWIC offers a suite of modern, serviced meeting rooms accommodating up to 60 delegates. They include a seminar room, 3D Productivity suite, boardroom, meeting room and an innovatively designed workshop space. Provision includes:

BESPOKE CPD Collaborating with organisations and businesses to create bespoke training programmes to meet their specific needs is an exciting area of our work. Recent collaborative CPD projects with Suffolk County Council and established projects with NHS Trusts have proved to be invaluable to the organisations and to the professional learners. As a University, we aim to support businesses to improve their productivity, become more competitive, sustainable and profitable. To this end, when businesses engage with the University for CPD, they not only benefit from high quality training, they gain access to an extensive range of services.
