It is true that employees recognise the high expectations UOW places on its students. My experiences from studying at UOW have modelled the person and teacher that I have become today. Studying at UOW provided me with the opportunities to extend my horizons, to meet new inspiring people, explore innovative ideas and develop a love and passion for teaching. As a graduate, I am now equipped with the skills, connections, relationships and experiences to educate the children of the future. My success, love for teaching and education would not have transpired without UOW’s Bachelor of Primary Education.

I passionately believe that the most important part of a preservice teacher’s training is their practical classroom experience and have had the pleasure of mentoring pre-service teachers during practicums for over 20 years. The in-class experience —which is where the real learning about how to teach happens— provides the time to transform theory into practice. Students not only develop skills needed for the classroom but they establish positive relationships with pupils and experience being a part of a professional team.
Undergraduates from UOW demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm, commitment and professionalism. It is always a pleasure to nurture this journey and witness, in their last year, confident and competent interns who are excited and engaged in their career. The calibre of UOW graduates has ensured that we offer many interns work as soon as they graduate. It is a privilege to be part of the professional experience for students from UOW who are my future colleagues.
