A TRADITION OF
EXCELLENCE Union College, chartered by the state of New York in 1795, is one of America’s oldest and most distinguished liberal arts colleges. In 1845, we became the nation’s first college to integrate engineering into a liberal arts curriculum. Today we are one of the few leading the way in the intersection of disciplines. A private, residential college located in Schenectady, N.Y., we offer a rigorous academic program embracing faculty-student collaboration through small classes, research in all disciplines, interdisciplinary study and dynamic term abroad programs. Our 2,200 full-time undergraduates come from 39 U.S. states and 42 countries. International students are a vital part of the campus community, participating in scholarly and social activities, and sharing their cultural perspectives. The Office of Student Support Services plans an orientation for incoming international students and also helps with federal visa requirements. And throughout four years here, students receive guidance and practical assistance from our international student adviser, helping to ensure their success on campus and beyond.

>> THE UNION DIFFERENCE
Society of Physics Students treasurer and president; World Around U president
Union is a great school for curious minds. I loved the cross-disciplinary curriculum, creative and inspirational projects, unlimited support from friends and professors, and open discussions about current issues. As an engineering major at a liberal arts school, I enjoyed the best of both worlds. My problem-solving skills came not only from engineering theories and practices, but also from music, history and political science. I was always encouraged to explore beyond convention.
>> BEST UNION EXPERIENCE
The best of Union was to discover the infinite amount of possibilities the school offers. From doing research while learning American politics on the Washington, D.C., term to taking a self-designed term in Chile to observing and doing research at a state-of-the-art radio telescope (Arecibo, Puerto Rico) as part of my summer research program, Union gave me the opportunity to dream big and speak my mind.

Student Investment Fund; math, economics and entrepreneurship clubs >> WHY UNION EXCELS
I chose Union for its proficient faculty, low student-to-faculty ratio and small community. My expectations were surpassed. The liberal arts experience was inclusive and research-intensive, with small classes taught exclusively by professors. They fostered intellectual curiosity, communication and teamwork. Professors were easily accessible, so a fair share of learning took place outside the classroom. I still maintain contact with some Union staff, who were determined to make student experiences positive. UNION.EDU

ABOUT UNION
The alumni connection is very strong. Alumni are ready to guide you, encourage you and engage with you. They always take time out of their busy schedules to talk about their jobs, careers and even books they think you should read. They give you a real-world view about work and life.
>> WHY UNION
Union has all the qualities of my ideal college—liberal arts with engineering, innovation, and small city life with a global perspective. Students have the opportunity to explore subjects of various fields and integrate them. In my Arts of China course, I learned how to synthesize and understand elements of various artworks— creative thinking and analysis skills that I can apply in entrepreneurial and engineering
The thing I love best about Union is the academic quality and friendly professors who are always available for me when I seek help. I have also had a chance to learn a lot about American culture from being a part of many organizations, including Greek life (Alpha Delta Phi) and student clubs like the Eliphalets (a capella group), and by getting involved in the community through my Minerva House and the Kenney Community Center.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID CSS profile is required if applying for need-based financial aid. Union College meets 100% of the demonstrated financial need for admitted students but is need-aware in the admissions process. This means that your financial information is considered along with the other components of your application during the admission evaluation. Applicants who can contribute $30,000 or more per year will be most competitive for admission. A large percentage of our financial aid is awarded in our two early decision rounds. Financial aid packages typically consist of a grant and workstudy opportunity. Merit scholarships are awarded to a select few international students each year and are valued at $10,000-$20,000 per year. No separate applications are required.
