There are more than 40 major buildings and excellent athletic facilities. More than $120 million in new campus construction has been completed during the past decade, including several new Georgian-Colonial classroom buildings that support state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. Most of Union’s on-campus housing was constructed in 2008. Student-suggested design features were incorporated in each new building; all residence buildings include a private bedroom for each student. The campus is situated along the U.S. 45 bypass in north Jackson and is adjacent to one of Jackson’s largest concentration of retail establishments and restaurants. For a second consecutive year, Union was listed among 77 “schools to watch” across the nation. Overall, the magazine ranks Union 16th among master’s universities in the South, which means Union has been classified as a Top Tier institution each year since 1997. Editors also identify Union as an “A+ option for serious B students.” * Princeton Review: Princeton Review ranks Union among the top 141 schools in the Southeast. Nationally, 640 schools received this regional ranking, which is only accorded to about 25% of the nation’s colleges and universities. * Forbes: In its second annual “America’s Best Colleges” edition, Forbes editors evaluated 600 of the nation’s 4,000 colleges and universities based on the quality of the education they provide, and how much their students achieve. Union ranked 278th on the Forbes list -- up four places from last year -- and was one of only two institutions in Tennessee west of Nashville selected for inclusion. * America’s 100 Best College Buys: An objective and independent research company surveys more than a thousand U.S. colleges and universities each year, then analyzes the information to find out which schools offer the best education for the dollar based upon academic performance indicators and comparative costs. Union University has been among schools identified as “America’s 100 Best College Buys” since 1998. * President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll: Initiated in 2006, this award recognizes colleges and universities nationwide that support innovative and effective community service and service-learning programs. Union is also one of only 160 institutions named to the list for three straight years, and one of only six four-year schools in Tennessee with that distinction. * College Access and Opportunity Guide: Union is listed among 220 U.S. colleges “committed to serving and supporting today’s first-generation, low-income and traditionally underserved college-bound students.” Union is one of only four Tennessee institutions so honored. * Colleges of Distinction: Union and the other schools chosen for inclusion in this guide exhibit four distinctives of superior colleges and universities: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities and successful outcomes. * Templeton Foundation: Union is listed in the Foundation’s guide entitled Colleges that Encourage Character Development. Schools included in this listing have “exemplary programs, presidents, and colleges and universities that inspire students to lead ethical and civic-minded lives.”

UNION UNIVERSITY
season outlook
The Union University women’s basketball team enters the 2010-11 season as the two-me defending NAIA Naonal Champions. In fact, Union has won five naonal tles overall, including four in the past six seasons. Over the past six seasons, Union has posted one of the most dominate stretches in women’s basketball history. In this me, Union has four naonal tles and a combined record of 204-21 (.906), including a 108-4 (.964) record in the last three seasons. In the two seasons in which Union did not win the naonal tle during this stretch, the Lady Bulldogs lost in the semifinals on a shot in the final 10 seconds of each game to the eventual naonal champion. Union has been ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for 36 straight rankings, spanning three seasons. The Lady Bulldogs have also won each of the past three regular season TranSouth tles and had their stretch of two straight conference tournament tles snapped last season in a upset at home in the tle game. The loss snapped a 60-game home winning streak. Over the 14-year history of the TranSouth Conference, Union has won 12 regular season tles and 10 tournament tles. In 2010-11, Union will look to connue that run of record seng basketball. Reigning NAIA Coach of the Year, Mark Campbell and eight-year assistant Kae Woodruff, will take three returning All-Americans, a quality groups of reserves and a group of talented newcomers and work toward another run at a tle. Their work will be tough as they adjust to the loss of the leading scorer in Union University women’s basketball history, Kaitlin Dudley. Dudley was a four-me NAIA All-American and finished with 2,385 points. Kayla Hudson, the senior guard who has started every game for the Lady Bulldogs since signing with Union as a freshman, will be the leader on this team. She became Union’s all-me assists leader last season in just her junior year. Sara Chan and Lavanda Ross also return aer AllAmerican seasons from a year ago. The senior class for Union includes Hudson, Chan, and sharp-shooter Kayla Bryant. Hudson and Chan will lead the offensive producon for Union. Bryant will connue to provide Union a long range scoring threat, something the Lady Bulldogs have been known for over the years. Ross leads a group of three juniors, two of which are returning. Ross was an NAIA honorable menoned All-American last season as a sophomore. Beatrice Duel returns as one of the biggest players in the NAIA and will connue to work on her skills as she comes off the bench. Newcomer Hope Adams will have an opportunity to play an immediate part in Union success this season. Two sophomores return from last season, however both will be playing their first minutes with Union. Aly Giddens missed the season with an injury and will look to make up for lost me with her shoong ability from the outside. Rebecca Sharpe completed a redshirt season last year and will provide a great back up to Hudson at the point as she prepares to lead the team later in her career. The largest class is the freshman class, made up of five players, three of which are coming off red-shirt seasons. Paige Parker, who redshirted last season, will step in as one of the top shooters on the team and could see playing me early and oen. Mildred Olumasi, also a redshirt, will provide solid depth to Chan in the post. LaTesa McLaughlin, who came in mid-semester and redshirted, will provide an offensive and defensive spark at the guard posion. Newcomers to the program, Terrah Garner and Astrid Huemann, enter with high expectaons. Garner will see early opportunies to contribute, while Huemann will sit out this season. Union again boasts one of the toughest, if not the single toughest schedule in the NAIA. Union’s non-conference schedule is again list of who’s who among NAIA powers. Union will face NAIA ranked teams and naonal tournament parcipants including St. Francis (Ill.), Cumberlands (Ky.), Oklahoma Bapst, Azusa Pacific (Calif.), Vanguard (Calif.), Lee (Tenn.), St. Xavier (Ill.), Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Shorter, Campbellsville (Ky.) and Evangel (Mo.). Of Union’s 13 non-conference games, 11 were ranked at some point last season, nine were parcipants in the naonal tournament, seven advanced to the second round, and one (Azusa Pacific) will be a rematch of last season’s tle game. Union’s conference schedule does not get any easier as the TranSouth has become one of the top women’s basketball leagues in the NAIA. Five different conference teams have made the naonal semifinals at least once in the past four years. Union will face naonal tournament parcipants Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.), Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) and Bethel (Tenn.), all of which advanced to the second round last season. Other programs such as Cumberland (Tenn.), who was a naonal finalist in 2007, and up-and-coming programs Lyon (Ark.) and Marn Methodist (Tenn.) are on the very edge of advancing to the naonal tournament. Union will also play two exhibion games this season against SEC and NCAA naonal powers, Tennessee and Vanderbilt (Tenn.). This will be the second straight season for Union to face Vanderbilt. Last season Union led the Lady Commodores by as many as 13 points and led for the first 29 minutes of the game before falling. Union played Tennessee four mes during the 1970’s, with Union holding a 3-1 advantage.

KAYLA BRYANT
5-8 • Senior • Guard Hometown: Shelbyville, Tenn. Previous School: Lambuth University Birthday: November 6
Coach’s Comments. Kayla will have a breakout year this year! Aer transferring, she had a big adjustment to make. However, I believe that KB is one of the best shooters in the NAIA. She has grown as an individual more than any player I have had in a year’s me. If we are to reach our potenal as a team, KB has to be a consistent performer from behind the arc. She is ready to do this! She has made over 130 three’s in the last two seasons and expects to win. She has unlimited range which will stretch the defense so that our post can excel. Union Career. (‘09-’10)...played in 35 games for Union...averaged 5.2 points per game...made 57 three pointers at 35%. Before Union. Bryant transferred to Union from Lambuth University where she played in 31 games as a sophomore. She averaged nine points and three rebounds per game, while leading the team with 78 made three pointers. As a freshman, Bryant averaged 6.1 points per game, leading the team with 61 made three pointers. Bryant prepped at Shelbyville High School where she helped lead her team to two state tle game appearances, winning once.

Coach’s Comments. Sarah has connued to improve each and every year culminang in a great junior year and being named MVP of the naonal tournament. LAVANDA ROSS
5-8 • Junior • Guard Hometown: Jackson, Tenn. Previous School: North Side HS Birthday: September 29
Coach’s Comments. Lavanda is the best player at her posion in the NAIA. I believe that this will be her year! She can finish in traffic with contact and can knock down the three point shot. She led the country in field goal percentage from the guard posion (57%) and also shot above 43% from three last season. She is best in transion and she will step up this year to be someone we count on down the stretch. She plays as hard as any player I have coached and we can depend upon her best effort every day. Every possession on the offensive end should go through Lavanda! Cannot wait to see what she does! Union Career. (‘08-’09)...played in all 38 games for Union as a freshman...averaged 10 points and 3.5 rebounds per game...made 23-of-49 three pointers (47%)...was named the TranSouth Freshman and Newcomer of the Year...earned TranSouth all-freshman team honors. (‘09-’10)...played in all 38 games for Union...averaged 13.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game...made 23 three pointers at 43%...was named TranSouth All-Conference and NAIA All-American. Before Union. Ross prepped at North Side High School in Jackson where she played four seasons of basketball for Coach Farris Lowery. Ross was named All-District and All-Region as a junior. She was also a member of the state runner-up team as a sophomore. As a senior, Ross is averaging 19.2 points and 7.4 rebounds. Through the first 17 games, she has 60 steals and has helped the team to a 16-1 start. Off the court, Ross is a member of the Honor Roll.

REBECCA SHARPE
5-4 • Sophomore • Guard Hometown: Mt. Juliet, Tenn. Previous School: Bryan College Birthday: May 21

Coach’s Comments. Becca is an unbelievable young lady. She works extremely hard, she competes and she is constantly improving. Her three point shot is constantly geng beer and beer. She is coming off a redshirt year aer transferring from Bryan College where she led the NAIA in assists. Becca is a great teammate and is a fighter. She comes from a great high school program where they consistently competed for state championships. I am excited about watching Becca connue to improve and make an impact on our team. Our team would not be the same without her as a part of it. I love to coach players like Rebecca! Union Career. (‘09-’10)...Redshirt season. Before Union. Sharpe transferred from Bryan College where she played one year of basketball. She led the NAIA DII ranks with 8-plus assists per game as a freshman. Before entering college, she played basketball all four years at Mt.Juliet High School. While at Bryan College, she made the All-Freshman Conference Team. In high school, she was on the All-District and All-Region team and was the VicePresident of the Student Execuve Council.
PAIGE PARKER
5-11 • Freshman • Guard Hometown: Hanceville, Ala. Previous School: Cold Springs HS Birthday: February 9
#10
Coach’s Comments. Paige comes to us from Cold Springs, Alabama where she earned All-State honors as a junior and senior. Her high school team won back to back state championships her last two years and she was MVP on both tournament championship teams. Paige made 300 three’s in her final three years and we will depend upon her for this ability as well. She learned a lot over her first year with us. Her redshirt year allowed her to understand how physical the college game is and it has allowed her to understand the what’s and why’s of what we do. Paige is a great teammate and is too nice somemes!! She will make an immediate impact on our program and our school. Union Career. (‘09-’10)...Redshirt season. Before Union. Parker prepped at Cold Springs (Ala.) High School where she averaged 17 points and seven rebounds as a senior. Parker made 107 three pointers during her senior year, shoong 40-percent from behind the arc. Over her last three years of high school, she made 300 three pointers at a 40-percent clip. ALY GIDDENS
5-9 • Freshman • Guard Hometown: Jackson, Tenn. Previous School: Univ. School of Jackson Birthday: February 1
#24
Coach’s Comments. Aly has had a rough go since becoming a Lady Bulldog. She is connuing to work through an odd injury. She never has had a bad atude because of the circumstances and is a faithful supporter of her teammates. I am so thankful for her connued help in pracce as she goes through this frustrang curcumstance. Hopefully we can figure it out and move in a posive direcon. Union Career. (‘09-’10)...DNP, injury. Before Union. Giddens prepped at University School of Jackson where she played basketball for four years. MILDRED OLUMASI
6-3 • Freshman • Center Hometown: Mombasa, Kenya Previous School: Mombasa HS Birthday: January 5
#32
Coach’s Comments. Mildred will be the next dominant center at Union and this year will give her the chance to learn and make an impact. She has been with us for almost two years and is sll just beginning to understand our purpose. When she finally gets it watch out! She is our best true sealing post and is further ahead than any posts to date in this area. She is a great compliment to Sarah’s strengths because they are so different. I cannot wait to see how she comes along. Expect to see her playing five a lot earlier. Union Career. (‘09-’10)...Redshirt season. Before Union. Olumasi prepped at Mombasa High School where she played basketball.

Hope Adams
5-11 • Junior • Forward Hometown: Oxford, Mississippi Previous School: Northwest Mississippi CC Birthday: September 1
#4
Coach’s Comments. Hope comes to us from Northwest Mississippi Community College where she averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game. She was first team All State. She originally signed at the University of Memphis and started there as a freshman. One of our biggest concerns coming into this season was signing an athlete who was physical and skilled at the four-posion. We found it all in Hope and we have not had a forward here like her before. She can step out and make three’s, she can post and score with her back to the basket, she can pass effecvely in the paint, she is a great rebounder and she can face and aack from the high post. She is by far the most physical player on this year’s team. Hope also adds a great personality and is a great teammate. Union Career. (‘10-’11)...first season at Union. Before Union. Adams transferred to Union from Northwest Mississippi Community College where she played as a sophomore. As as a freshman, Adams played in 30 games for the University of Memphis, starng 18 mes. She averaged three points and three rebounds per game. Adams prepped at Oxford (Miss.) High School where she was named the Oxford Eagle Player of the year twice. Adams averaged 19 points and nine rebounds per game as she helped lead her team to a 25-7 record and an appearance in the state playoffs..
LaTesa McLaughlin

She played her high school basketball at Millington Central High School where she excelled on and off the basketball floor. She was an AllState performer and is the all-me steals leader in Tennessee high school basketball history. She averaged 12 points per game and six steals per game and she made 66 three-point field goals as a senior. Her high school team was ranked number one in the state during her final two years of high school. Tesa will make an immediate impact on our team. She will be a great defender on the ball and she will be able to handle pressure full court and make great decisions. Union Career. (‘10-’11)...first season at Union. Before Union. McLaughlin averaged 12 points, seven steals and three assists per game over her final two seasons at Millington High School. She made 66 three pointers as a senior and 43 as a junior. About the NAIA
The purpose of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is to promote the education and development of students through intercollegiate athletic participation. Member institutions, although varied and diverse, share a common commitment to high standards and to the principle that participation in athletics serves as an integral part of the total educational process. The NAIA embraces the concept of the student and recognizes the importance of the individuality of each member institution, the value of the conferences and Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) structure, and the benefits of membership in a national association. The NAIA supports gender equity. Gender equity is an atmosphere and reality where fair distribution of overall athletic opportunity and resources, proportionate to enrollment, are available to women and men, and where no student-athlete, coach or athletics administrator is discriminated against in any way in the athletics program. That is to say, an athletics program is gender-equitable when the men’s sports program would be pleased to accept as its own the overall participation opportunities and resources currently allocated to the women’s sports program and vice versa.
Advancing sport with innovative change
The NAIA has 50,000 student-athletes participating at nearly 300 member colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. Divided into 25 conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.), the NAIA offers 23 championships in 13 sports. Since 1937, the NAIA has continued a long tradition of pushing the envelope and making a positive difference in the lives of students, coaches and parents. The Champions of Character program is the latest cutting-edge addition to the NAIA’s proud history of innovation (www.championsofcharacter.org). Through Champions of Character, the NAIA seeks to create an environment in which every studentathlete, coach, official and spectator are committed to the true spirit of competition through the five core values: respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

UNION UNIVERSITY
past season summary
The Union University Lady Bulldogs are coming off their second straight NAIA National Title and fourth in the past six years. The 2010 NAIA National Title was the fifth national title (1998, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010) for the Union women’s basketball program. Over the last six years, Union has advanced to the national tournament semifinals all six years, making this the most successful era in the history of Union women’s basketball. Union also closed out the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA for the 36th straight ranking, spanning three seasons. The Lady Bulldogs finished the year with a 36-2 record overall and a perfect 16-0 TranSouth Conference record. Union won their third straight regular season TranSouth title and had their stretch of two straight conference tournament titles snapped last season in a upset at home in the title game. The loss snapped a 60-game home winning streak. Over the 14-year history of the TranSouth Conference, Union has won 12 regular season titles and 10 tournament titles. Union played an exhibition game at SEC power Vanderbilt University. Union led by as many as 13 points and led 30-27 at the half. Union did not trail in the contest until the 10:32 mark, when Vandy pulled away from a tired Union team to win 69-48. Union opened the season with seven straight wins before dropping their first contest. The Lady Bulldogs then won 24 straight wins leading up to the conference tournament title game. After the title game loss, Union rolled through the national tournament with five straight wins by an average of 21 points per game. During the regular season and conference tournament, Union posted an 18-2 record versus teams that advanced to the national tournament. Union defeated opponents by an average of 23.3 points per game as they scored over 3200 points during the season. Union shot 48 percent from the field, including 38 percent (333-868) from behind the arc. Union also made 520of-695 free throws for 75 percent. Union out-rebounded their opponents by 8.4 boards per game. Union’s Kaitlin Dudley closed out her career by becoming Union’s all-time leading scorer with 2,385 points. She scored her record-setting point in the second half of the semifinal win over Oklahoma City. That basket gave Union their first lead of the second half and propelled the Lady Bulldogs to the title game. For her outstanding career, Dudley was honored by the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn. by having her #11 jersey to hang in the Ring of Honor for the next year. Another Union Lady Bulldog set an all-time record last season. Junior guard Kayla Hudson passed the all-time Union assist record during a game in the national tournament. Hudson has one more season to add to her record. Three Union players passed the 1,000 career point mark during the last season. Chan, Hudson and Jessica Graves each reached that milestone, including Chan and Graves reaching the mark during the same game. Union was well represented in post season honors from the NAIA. Sarah Chan earned national tournament MVP honors, while Dudley joined Chan on the all-tournament team. Dudley, Chan, Hudson and Lavanda Ross were named NAIA All-Americans. Those four also were named to the first team all-conference list. Dudley was named the TranSouth Player of the Year, while head coach Mark Campbell earned TranSouth Coach of the Year honors. Campbell also earned NAIA Coach of the Year and the TSWA Coach of the Year. Laura Crittendon was named an NAIA Scholar Athlete. Dudley, Hudson, Crittendon and Rebecca Sharpe were named TranSouth Scholar Athletes.

Union jumped out to a quick lead in the second half, starng with a 7-0 run keyed by a Kaitlin Dudley 3-pointer, a basket by Zeinab Chan and two Jessica Graves free throws.
