ARTS COUNCIL

2018 -19 ANNUAL REPO RT

As I listen to his vision for building on 45 years of service; and his plans for taking the Arts Council, the arts, and our community to a new level of service and quality of place, I can’t wait to see where we are going.

Circle of Community

"Circle of Community" by artists Michael Waller and Leah Foushee of Waller Foushee Studios. - Public artwork at the intersection of Camden and Cumberland Roads celebrates the dynamic history, lives and spirit of Massey Hill. - A collaboration between the Massey Hill Heritage Discovery Project, The Arts Council and the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex. - Dedicated on February 16, 2019 by Tony Chavonne and attended by 200+ residents. - Funded by contributions from the Arts Council, the Cumberland Community Foundation, Massey Hill School Alumni, and private donors. www.digitalnc.org/exhibits/massey-hill

- 2018-2019 Works In Progress marks the third year of this program. - Gifted to the Fayetteville community through private donors and matched with Arts Council funding. - Fourteen works in this year’s downtown Fayetteville public exhibition. See the map on page 5 for this year's works on display. - The Arts Council has purchased or collaborated on purchasing eight permanent pieces of art for the beautification of our city. Those works include: Natural Embrace, Tree of Good and Evil, Dancer, Dogs, Flowers, Two Witnesses, and the Massey Hill Heritage Discovery Project (All acquisitions were supported in part by public donations). - The combined worth of these permanent pieces of artwork totals more than $132,000 – their value to the self-esteem of the community is priceless.

Public Art Works

Public art improves our quality of life - because it makes us stop and open our eyes, because it transforms our city from this place you have to cross every day to something that ignites conversation, to something sublime. And, it’s free. There are no tickets. People don’t have to dress up. You can view it alone or in groups. It’s open to everyone.
