A STRONG ACADEMIC CENTER FOR PRIMARY CARE AND PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES
from Rapport annuel 2019
by unisante
The Center for Primary Care and Public Health, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, known as Unisanté, was set up to support the steering of health policy in the Canton of Vaud. It is active in research, academic training, prevention and ambulatory care. Innovative and unique in Switzerland, it promotes interdisciplinarity and the pooling of skills committed to health issues.
In the current context, the population’s health needs are constantly increasing. Health care systems and medical and nursing practices must therefore evolve. This observation, shared by all Western countries, poses a complex equation: using public resources efficiently to keep the population healthy, developing therapeutic possibilities and, at the same time, controlling costs. The political and academic authorities of the Canton of Vaud therefore decided to create a strong interdisciplinary body to meet these challenges.
Its Driving Forces
The institution has more than 850 employees active in research, academic training, prevention and ambulatory care, spread over 15 sites in the Lausanne area and the Canton of Vaud.
Its History
Unisanté was formed on January 1st, 2019 from the merger of the Policlinique médicale universitaire, the Institut universitaire de médecine sociale et préventive, the Institut universitaire romand de santé au travail and the association Promotion Santé Vaud
